Chapter 288 - 288 276 The Final Goodbye
Chapter 288: Chapter 276: The Final Goodbye Chapter 288: Chapter 276: The Final Goodbye Ling’er sat across from Ye Chen.
Ye Chen said, “Tomorrow, huh?”
“Yeah, I don’t know if there might be other complications, but you all should be cautious.” Wei Sisan replied.
Ye Chen asked, “Is the sect leader still worried?”
“Sigh, I’ve checked it out too, it should be fine.” Wei Sisan said.
Ling’er said, “I should go too.”
Wei Sisan objected, “No, you cannot go, your wounds have barely healed.”
“Father.”
“There’s no use saying anything.”
“My wounds are essentially all healed.”
Ye Chen said, “Ling’er, listen to your father. We don’t know what might happen on the road, it’s better if you stay in Wasteland City.”
Wei Sisan certainly wouldn’t let his daughter join this dangerous venture and said, “We still don’t know the specifics. It’s uncertain if they are harboring other schemes.”
“What other schemes could they possibly have? It’s just the Zen Master and his folks.” Ling’er didn’t understand her father’s worry.
But Wei Sisan insisted, “Either way, you can’t go, stay in Wasteland City.”
Ling’er snorted in defiance.
Wei Sisan continued, “Just be careful when the time comes. I don’t know if anything unexpected may occur.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Chen took a sip of his tea.
“Jiang Zhuge and Kong Sha will assist you then.”
“Will they listen to me?”
“Hehe, as long as you win, that’s what matters. Just don’t let the Zen Master’s people take control of Sky Domain City.” Wei Sisan said, “Possibly in a few days, the Immortal Demons might start sending people.”
“Have they decided to help Wastelands?” Ling’er asked.
In response, Wei Sisan said, “Not just to help us, but to also help themselves in the process. Your main task is to prevent the Dragon Clan from taking Sky Domain City. Once the threat is eliminated, return immediately, avoid unnecessary risks.”
Ye Chen understood Wei Sisan’s concern all too well.
“After we return, we will reconsider our plans on how to deal with the Zen Master and his allies. Once the Immortal Demons’ people arrive, we can discuss further.”
“Yes, I understand.”
“Just be careful. If anything comes up, discuss it with Jiang Zhuge, Kong Sha, Can Mo, and the rest.”
“Alright, you can rest assured.”
“Mmm, that’s all for now.”
“I’m already used to it.”
“Doesn’t it all seem never-ending?”
“Hmm, somewhat.”
“Sigh, I wish to resolve it once and for all. It’s safer to join forces with the Immortal Demons.”
Ye Chen nodded. He knew about Wei Sisan’s cautious nature. In fact, during these twenty days, he had suggested switching from defense to offense.
“The expected destination for their main force is likely to be the Wastelands. If the Immortal Demons could really come on time and join forces with our New City Sect and the Sky Domain Sect, things will become much easier.”
After hearing Wei Sisan’s analysis, Ye Chen and Ling’er left. By then it was already completely dark outside.
As the two walked down the quiet path, Ling’er remained silent. Ye Chen knew that she was upset because she was not allowed to participate in the mission, and said, “Your father is doing this for your own good. Galloping on a horseback is quite strenuous. Your wounds might open up, and we don’t know what we’ll encounter on the way.”
Ling’er just glanced at him.
Ye Chen smiled and said, “Are you afraid I’ll bring someone else back? Don’t worry, even if I really want to bring someone back, I’ll get your approval first. She must be pretty enough, at least.”
A punch flew over.
“Could it be that you want us to consummate our marriage tonight before letting me leave?”
“Hehe, keep dreaming.”
“You might as well tie me down, have a kid, and then I’ll stick around. I don’t mind.”
“And you’re not even bothered!” Ling’er retorted indignantly.
“Victory is ours. Just wait for me to triumphantly return.” Ye Chen said.
“Don’t celebrate too early. My father said it could be dangerous.”
“How many times have I been sent out without facing danger?” replied Ye Chen.
That night, a crescent moon hung in the sky. The pure moonlight scattered on the ground. A fragrance wafted from somewhere, instantly attracting Ling’er. Suddenly, she stopped, intending to go to a nearby hill.
“Why the sudden stop? Weren’t we going back?”
“We still have time.”
“Shouldn’t we go back and get something to eat, wouldn’t a midnight snack be nice?”
Ling’er still wanted to head towards the hill. The area was quiet, void of people, but there was a Murraya Exotica tree about ten feet tall. Its intoxicating fragrance had drawn her in.
Ye Chen glanced around and joked, “Why do you want to come here? Do you want me to make a move?”
“You dare.” A leg kicked out.
Ye Chen cried out in pain.
“You and your wild imagination.”
“Wild thoughts? An unmarried young man and woman in a pitch-dark hill. Anyone could imagine what’s likely to happen.”
“I think, no one has a wilder imagination than you.” She climbed onto a rock.
“Just sitting here watching the moon? It’s cold and not at all fun. It’s better to go back and eat some roast chickens.”
“Why are you always thinking about food?”
“Eating is a good thing, it is also a form of enjoyment.” Ye Chen also climbed onto a rock and said, “I mean look, there are so many mosquitoes. Did we come here just to feed them?” He clapped his hands as he spoke.
“How come I don’t feel any mosquitoes?”
“Just wait and see.”
The moon reflected on the pond. Somewhere, a frog was croaking, seemingly in need of a mate, while crickets played their songs. Despite the small annoyances, it was quite romantic.
“Look how beautiful it is.”
Some fireflies were flitting about, adding a touch of romance to the scene.
“Beautiful, huh? It’s pitch-black, can hardly see a thing, nothing beautiful about it. Maybe there’s a snake in those bushes waiting to pounce on you,” Ye Chen ventured closer with a touch of excitement.
“Can you be a bit more serious? You’ve completely ruined the fantastic atmosphere,” Ling’er complained.
“What I’m saying is the truth. It would be much better to be indoors, paired up, exchanging glances which is much more fun.”
“With you around, I can’t enjoy anything.”
“How about we skip straight to the bridal chamber, more practical right?”
“How on earth did I fall for you?”
“I speak nothing but the truth.”
“All you do is spout nonsense,” Ling’er picked up a few stones from their feet and flung them towards the water, creating splashes as she asked, “When did you actually start liking me?”
“Did I ever say that I liked you?”
“Don’t tell me you get a kick out of seeing me angry,” Ling’er asked, somewhat annoyed.
“Well, maybe a little bit. Thought about it, it’s nothing more than finding a partner and then settling for life, we are so compatible, neither of us are ugly, it’s fine as long as it gets us by. We can’t always find someone absolutely perfect, and if I marry you, I become the Sect Leader. You’re like a carp leaping over the dragon gate. I’m generally against all these, but if it doesn’t work out well, I still have the upper hand.”
“The way you said that sounds like you’re a victim, like you’re selling yourself.”
“Just a bit! Perhaps I could definitely marry someone better, but I don’t care. I’ll just marry again if I’m unhappy.”
“You’re doing this on purpose, right?”
Ye Chen quickly retreated, genuinely afraid of being slapped.
“Why can’t you ever be serious?”
“I am serious, very serious.”
“Well, just remember, you won’t have the final say on ‘re-marrying'”
“Oh, are you planning on monopolising me?”
“You can’t say anything nice.”
“I do have something nice to say. But I still feel you were prettier when you were young.”
“Is that a compliment?”
“Of course, you were chubby back then, with a round face and big eyes. It’s not just the Red Demonic Spirit who wanted to kiss you, I wanted to too. But he was just braver and did what I didn’t dare to do,” Ye Chen said.
“I always knew you were no good.”
“I never claimed to be any good.”
“Funny enough, I don’t know what I like about you.”
“Let me tell you, for sure it’s because I’m handsome and excelling.”
“You’re just chirping like a cricket.”
“Relax, I’d definitely save some good spot for you in my heart, but I have to leave some for others as well.”
“Listening to you say that, I truly feel like giving you a serious beating,” Ling’er said, her nose twitching in irritation.
“Well ok, as long as it makes you happy.”
“But I need to get my club.”
“Hey, that could really kill someone.”
“You said you’d save me a spot.”
“Of course. My heart isn’t that big as to save it all for you. I have to save some space for others, right? What if one day I really find someone else I like more, that would be terrible.”
“You dare!”
“I really want to try.”
“Please do, just don’t fall into my hands.”
“You can’t catch me, neither can you scare me.”
“We’ll see.”
“Are you planning on locking me up in a cage or something?”
“That’s an idea.”
“In that case, why don’t you marry an animal instead, like a dog? It listens to you. As long as you feed it, it’d obey any commands and help with all your tasks, way more obedient than a person,” Ye Chen suggested.
Ling’er ignored him and continued throwing stones into the water.
Ye Chen straightforwardly picked up a large stone and threw it into the water. “Boom!” A large splash soared up higher than a person; their faces were splashed with bits of water.
“What on earth are you doing?” Ling’er exclaimed.
The frogs nearby suddenly fell silent out of fear.
“Ah, I just wanted to create some ripples.”
“Ripples, my foot! Look at my face, it’s full of water.”
“Let me wipe it off for you.”
“Get lost.”
“This place really isn’t interesting, might as well go have a midnight snack.”
“Midnight snack? You’ll be so full, you won’t be able to move,” Ling’er protested.
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely be able to run,” Ye Chen assured.
It seemed like they had alerted someone nearby, who shouted, “Who’s there?” and started looking.
“You’ve completely ruined the mood,” Ling’er got up.
“Let’s go back; we’d have more fun doing anything else than getting eaten alive by mosquitoes here. This place isn’t romantic at all, I even detect a scent of decay, who knows if there’s a dead rat somewhere.”
Ling’er hopped over like a mother monkey and climbed onto Ye Chen’s back, commanding, “Carry me back.”
“Well, why should I carry you back?”
“Hurry up, and stop dawdling.”
“What if someone sees us? It doesn’t look good.”
“Why wouldn’t it look good?” Ling’er asked.
“Haven’t you ever felt embarrassed?”
