Chapter 260 - 260 248 He Understands You

Chapter 260: Chapter 248: He Understands You Chapter 260: Chapter 248: He Understands You It was very quiet around.

“What did my father discuss with you?” Ling’er asked.

“Whether I want to marry you?” Ye Chen responded.

Ling’er let out a cold laugh, seemingly accustomed to this.

“Ah, if I marry you, I’ll lose my freedom. I rather prefer being free,” Ye Chen admitted.

“You’re always making jokes at my expense.”

“Believe it or not, you hope I say yes quickly, right?”

“Think hard about how we can possibly defeat the Zen Master and his team.”

“That depends on you. We’re limited in what we can do, we don’t have the strength.” Ye Chen hadn’t planned on discussing their discussion earlier that evening, because he wasn’t sure about Wei Sisan’s plan. He had simply made a suggestion.

“I feel like this is just the beginning. Tomorrow might be even tougher. I’m sure they’re going to pressure us, maybe they won’t just send in monsters that causes people to go crazy, but rather something even more terrifying and cruel.”

“Shouldn’t we let you negotiate with the Zen Master, persuade him to stop his attack on Wasteland City?”

“That huge task should be given to you.”

“I don’t have the capability, besides, the Zen Master is a man, so I doubt he would be interested in me.”

“You could try, perhaps he might start liking you,” Ling’er suggested.

After about two hours of casual chatting, Ye Chen started to feel drowsy. Having been fighting all day, he said, “Enough of the nonsense,” and stood up to go to bed.

Wan Lan was tidying up the room when Ling’er entered.

Feeling the chill of the night, Ling’er said, “Wan Lan, keep me company tonight?”

With a smile, Wan Lan responded, “What’s the matter, longing for someone?”

“What nonsense.”

“You could directly ask Ye Chen to keep you company, he understands you.”

“Your assumptions are getting more and more outrageous.”

“Ling’er, why aren’t you willing to admit that you like Ye Chen?”

“Heh, who said I like him?” Ling’er, in all honesty, was not clear herself. She found it quite confusing.

“It’s really a bit unbearable. Such a good opportunity and you like him. Why not just explain it to him instead of putting yourself in agony like this?”

“I didn’t… I don’t like him.” Sitting at the edge of the bed, she felt foolish.

Hearing this, Wan Lan scoffed, “Okay, you don’t, you’re just jealous that Meng Yan is with him, envy them.”

“Who said I’m jealous and envious,” Ling’er retorted.

“I really don’t know what to say to you. You need to torture yourself until you can’t let go anymore, is that what you want?”

“No.” Ling’er lowered her head, playing with a string in her hand, innocently, with a touch of shyness.

“I think, if you really do like him and don’t want to admit it, there’s no harm. Just tell your father to hurry up and allow you both to get married. Just say you know nothing, act extremely unwilling.”

“Why would I torture myself like this?”

“You don’t want to admit it, but you like him in your heart. The best way to prevent him from falling into someone else’s hands would be this. You’d get to save face, at least you will not need to bow down in his presence, wouldn’t that be great?”

“Am I stupid!”

“No idea, but I think so. Why are you just unwilling to admit it? It’s so unnecessary. Don’t wait till he really gets chased down by that girl before you start regretting it.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll never regret it.”

“Don’t be so absolute,” Wan Lan scoffed.

“Why are you so sure that I like him?”

“Not sure, but all your actions are telling us that you do.”

Ling’er snorted rather derisively.

“Why else would you be so angry? Especially tonight when Cui Mengyan hugged Ye Chen. From what I saw, you were really annoyed, your eyes were about to fall out as if you couldn’t wait to strangle that girl. Isn’t that jealousy?”

“Nonsense, there’s no such thing.”

“Alright, whether there is or there isn’t, you know the truth. No matter how much I talk, it doesn’t change anything. Just think about it, find out if you truly like him. Once it’s clear, should he really be snatched away by someone else, don’t come crying to me.”

“I was just worried that he would be fooled by others.”

“If you didn’t care, why worry about him being fooled? What would he lose in getting fooled? He’s originally a drifter. The one with a baby bump isn’t him.”

“Ah, I don’t bother talking to you, you wouldn’t understand.”

“Alright, I don’t understand. Think about it carefully, don’t let someone else snatch him away and then regret it.” Mu Wan Lan said, walking away and closing the room door.

Alone in the room, Ling’er sat on the bed, appearing rather foolish in her thoughts. Wan Lan leaned by the window looking at her and added, “Just rush to his room and get things done and dusted, let’s see if he can still stay put.”

“Throw an orange over here.”

Mu Wan Lan quickly jumped out of the way.

Now alone in the room, Ling’er sat on the bed, appearing somewhat foolish. She was really starting to question herself. Did she really like him? How could this happen without any warning? What does it mean to like someone? She started to feel puzzled. If she didn’t like him, then why was she so annoyed and angry when he was with the other girl? And why did she want him to move out? She asked herself, “Is it really because I like him that I am so anxious and nervous?”

Just now, when the Black Panther was charging over, Cui Mengyan had immediately clung to Ye Chen which had made her feel uncomfortable, as if she was being provoked. It wasn’t something that would have bothered her before.

What’s going on? Feeling like her secret had been discovered, she shook her head quickly and pulled the blanket over herself. She dared not think about it any further. What if thinking makes it real?

She had given it a lot of thought, from the first time they met to their subsequent encounters.

Nothing about him seemed particularly attractive nor was there any reason for her to like him. However, she wondered, did one really need a reason to like someone? Was she attracted to his intelligence, his decent looks, or perhaps it was his constant opposition towards her?

She had thought and thought but still couldn’t make sense of it. The outside was so quiet that one could hear the sound of people breathing, and the crickets were playing their ceaseless tune.

She couldn’t sleep and began to complain. It was all Mu Wan Lan’s fault. Why did she have to be so annoying, prompting her to say all these things and keeping her awake? She was truly irritating.

The cold moonlight streamed in through the half-open window, causing the room to seem even colder. Unconsciously, she stood up and walked over.

A few lanterns swayed in the wind, and the leaves rustled loudly under the strong breeze.

Ling’er felt very sleepy but could not fall asleep. This feeling was too torturous.

Oh, how did it come to this? Had she really fallen for him? Maybe, but she couldn’t pinpoint when. He didn’t appear to have any qualities that could attract her, so why would she be fond of someone as thick-skinned and contrary as him?

It didn’t seem like he had any merits, but he wasn’t that bad either.

Ye Chen was eating when Ling’er, yawning, came out from her room. Looking hangover, her eyes were all swollen, making her look like a panda.

Ye Chen asked, “Why are you so out of it? Did you stay up all night thinking about me and not get any sleep?”

Wan Lan, overhearing the conversation, glanced at Ling’er. Her eyes were really swollen. She remembered that she left them last night while talking about Ye Chen. Could it be that this poor girl tortured herself the whole night thinking about him?

Ling’er blushed and did not respond.

Ling’er took a seat.

Unconcerned, Ye Chen said, “By the way, I told you if you couldn’t sleep, just wake me up. I would’ve kept you company.”

Mu Wan Lan was laughing.

Ye Chen was clueless as to why she was laughing. Ling’er, however, gave her a hard shove.

Laughing, Wan Lan finally shut up. Ling’er’s face turned beet red.

Ye Chen asked: “Did I actually hit the nail on the head? My conscience is killing me now.”

Meng Yan gave a small smile.

“You should take a break today. Otherwise, if you doze off and take a blow, it will be quite embarrassing.”

Ling’er began to eat the grilled sesame seed cake along with other savory delights.

“What were you dreaming about? Was it me with another woman?”

“I dreamt that you were struck in the neck with a knife. It was stuck in your bone and couldn’t be pulled out.”

Ye Chen was startled. Mu Wan Lan burst into laughter.

Ye Chen recoiled, touching his neck.

“Be careful not to get hit in the neck and have the knife stuck in the bone,” she cautioned.

“Don’t worry. I will not let anything bad happen,” Ye Chen assured. “Did your dream involve my left neck or right neck?”

Ling’er nonchalantly replied, “In my dream, your throat was cut on both sides.”

“In that case, it must have been a really painful dream. You surely cried all night, causing your eyes to turn green,” he teased.

Meng Yan assured: “Ye Chen’s martial arts is good; he won’t let anything bad happen.”

“How do you know his martial arts is good?” Ling’er questioned.

“Everyone says so. Even Shen Tian is no match for Brother Ye Chen,” she said.

“Oh, so now he’s become your brother,” Ling’er teased.

Meng Yan blushed, feeling embarrassed.

However, Ye Chen said, “It’s okay. Call me Brother Ye Chen from now on. I’ll be your brother.”

Meng Yan nodded, placed the food on the table, and sat back down.

Ye Chen glanced at Ling’er and said, “Don’t be so agitated, okay? She just called me brother, and you’ve already gotten upset.”

“Screw off, just eat your food already,” Ling’er snapped.

“You should really not go. Don’t end up swaying and getting hit, that won’t be good,” Ye Chen warned.

“Don’t jinx me.”

“Did you really not sleep because of thinking about me all night?” Ye Chen suddenly asked in a low voice, seemingly interested in the answer.

“The mother monkey on the tree probably thought about you,” she replied snidely.

Wan Lan chuckled, seemingly aware of something.

Ling’er glared at her immediately.

Wan Lan quickly suppressed her laughter.

“You’re not the mother monkey on the tree, are you?” Ye Chen teased.

Ling’er picked up the meat bun and stood up, ready to leave.

Ye Chen yelled, “Why are you in such a rush? The fight won’t start so soon, we have plenty of time. Let’s talk about your dream last night. Did you dream about me marrying someone else?”

“Yes, you married a paralytic,” she retorted.

“Hey, that’s not very polite,” Ye Chen admonished.
