Chapter 258 - 258 246 Wei Yiling Still Doubts

Chapter 258: Chapter 246: Wei Yiling Still Doubts Chapter 258: Chapter 246: Wei Yiling Still Doubts Meng Yan was crying as if terrified out of her wits. Her clothes were ripped in several places, and there were traces of blood on her arm. Ye Chen couldn’t bear to see whether there were any traces of blood on her face or not. He held her close and gently helped her up, reassuring her with a smile, “Don’t worry, it’s over. I’ve subdued it.”

Still afraid to turn around, Meng Yan asked, “Did the Zen Master let a monster into the city?”

Ye Chen gave a small smile and replied, “No, quickly get up. I have it under control.”

Meng Yan tried her best to display her shock and confusion. She guessed it must’ve been Ling’er’s idea, so she purposefully held onto Ye Chen tightly and wouldn’t let go.

With great effort, Ye Chen managed to pry her hands off him. He guided her in front of him, picked up an intact chair and let her sit down.

“What about the Black Panther?”

Ye Chen picked up the Crystal Beast from the ground and said, “This creature transformed into it.”

“What? This creature transformed.” Cui Mengyan looked around, seemingly still in disbelief, as if she thought Ye Chen was tricking her.

“Yes, relax. I’m here, nothing can hurt you.” Ye Chen muttered, “This damned thing, how did it get loose?”

Meng Yan recounted, “When I was tidying things up, it suddenly leapt in. If you hadn’t come back in time, I would have lost my life.”

“You’ve been scratched on your arm.”

Meng Yan’s heart was still racing.

“It’s okay, they are all minor injuries. The danger has passed.”

“Wait here, I’ll go to the room to get medicine for your wounds.” As Ye Chen stood up to go, he whispered to himself, “What on earth is happening? How did the panther appear? If I hadn’t returned quickly, there could have been a fatality.” As he reminisced about the midday events, he glanced around, and Ling’er and Wan Lan quickly ducked down on the other side of the fence.

Ye Chen then fetched some ointment and few strips of white cloth for bandaging.

He was sure that girl was trying too hard to verify whether the person he met in the afternoon was Meng Yan. It was way too dangerous. What would she do if something tragic happened? Shaking his head, Ye Chen felt frustrated.

Meng Yan was still holding her bruised knee; Ye Chen reassured her: “Don’t worry, these medicines will heal your wounds quickly. They won’t leave any scars.”

“I’m lucky you arrived in time. If not, I would’ve lost my life. I could only repay your kindness in the next life.” Meng Yan responded.

“Silly girl, why are you saying all these things? Everything is okay now!”

As he bandaged her arm, Ye Chen comforted her, “You’re brave. Facing the Black Panther, you didn’t fall apart in fear. Others would have been terrified.”

“No, in fact, I was terrified. I didn’t know where to run or who to call for help. I thought I would never see you again.”

Ye Chen laughed heartily, saying, “You don’t need to offer yourself as a reward. Don’t worry, I’ll never force you!”

Only then did Meng Yan seemed to relax. She still added, “I should really learn some self-defense skills in case of danger; so I can protect myself.”

“Hmm, you’re right. When we get the chance, I’ll teach you.”

“Really? That’s great, just great.”

“Wait until this is all over and your wounds heal, and then I’ll teach you.”

As her clothes were torn, Meng Yan looked a little embarrassed and said, “I should go change my clothes.”

Ye Chen nodded.

Seeing this, Ling’er climbed down from the fence, upset that things hadn’t turned out as she planned. She seemed so stimulated that she started plucking the leaves off a pomegranate tree as if she wanted to strip it bare.

Spotting her, Wan Lan said, “It’s a relief that everything is okay.”

The recent display of intimacy between Ye Chen and Meng Yan greatly unsettled her.

Ye Chen, still outside, asked, “Did you prepare my bathwater?”

“Yes, it’s inside your room.”

“Good.” With that, Ye Chen went into his room.

Ling’er was left standing, looking blank, deep in thought.

“Ling’er, let’s go back.”

“Did you see that? Was she putting on a showy performance?”

“Do you suspect she realized we were trying to force her to use her martial arts?” Wan Lan shook her head and said, “I don’t think so. Her clothes were torn, and she had scrapes on her arm and knee. If Ye Chen hadn’t intervened, she might have been in danger.”

“Well, that’s hard to say.” Ling’er grew increasingly suspicious of Meng Yan and said, “If she really knows martial arts and her skills are high, then the panther might not have been able to hurt her. She could just be putting on a show.”

“Is she trying to show off to us?”

“Anyway, she has plenty of tricks up her sleeve.”

“Hey, if you want to test her, you’ll have to think of another way.”

Ling’er was relentless, refusing to trust Meng Yan or even admit defeat.

Wan Lan began to worry. She suspected that Ling’er’s distrust was rooted in jealousy. She was frightened by the thought that if Ye Chen hadn’t intervened quickly enough, things could have gone terribly wrong.

From all this, Meng Yan concluded that the whole plot must have been Ling’er’s idea. That little imp had some nerve. Despite the danger she was in, Ling’er hadn’t stepped in to help.

She had assumed Ling’er would help.

She had been too careless. Someone was keeping an eye on her and she had no idea. Almost exposed, she realized she needed to be more carefull, otherwise, she would inevitably be discovered.

Now, having changed her clothes, she came out to clean up the broken items.

To Wan Lan, Ling’er said, “Tomorrow, follow her.”

“Ling’er, you still suspect her?”

“If these things aren’t real, then she’s an extremely formidable expert, highly skilled in martial arts and able to hide her abilities well. Coming to New City, she must have some secret that she doesn’t want anyone to know about,” Ling’er said.

Wan Lan nodded.

“So, keep a close eye on her and see what she’s up to.”

“Alright, don’t worry, I know what to do.”

“Okay, just make sure you keep a close watch on her.”

“Don’t worry, tomorrow, I’ll only do one thing: keep an eye on her.”

“Be careful, she might be a martial arts expert.”

“Hmm, I know, don’t worry.”

“Alright, get back to work.” Ling’er remained standing in place, continuously deep in thought.

“Stop thinking about it, you’ve been killing all day, you should take a good rest.”

“Hmm, you go ahead.”

Ye Chen changed his clothes and came out from the house, Ling’er was leisurely sipping tea in the courtyard, as if nothing had happened.

Ye Chen pointed at her.

Ling’er just smiled faintly.

“You really aren’t afraid, even with your life on the line.”

Ling’er didn’t respond.

“Truly clueless.”

“Without me, how could you have the chance to play the hero?” Ling’er was still thinking about the way he had tightly embraced her earlier.

“Hehe, you don’t seem worried at all.”

“You’re already here, aren’t you? What do I have to worry about?”

“With a life on the line, I’m afraid your entire life won’t be good.”

“Don’t worry, I have my limits.”

“Her clothes and knee are torn, yet you still say you have limits.”

“It was just a couple of falls.”

“Right, and you are hoping that the panther can bite someone’s face.”

Ling’er continued to leisurely sip her tea, even singing a song.

“Stop messing around.”

“I’m not messing around.”

“Alright, so we’re clear now, there won’t be a next time, right?”

“I’m considering it.”

“You really are a crazy girl.” Ye Chen continued, “They all say you’re as tense as facing a formidable enemy, you’re nervous, and you have delusions. Yet you still can’t believe that you saw incorrectly.”

Of course, Ling’er knew what Ye Chen meant by his last sentence. Sniffling, eating pastries, she didn’t seem inclined to respond to him.

“I can understand, even though I’m very excellent, there’s no need to be like this. If you keep being so neurotic, you’ll really drive yourself crazy. By that time, if the New City Sect produces a mad woman, then it would really be terrible. Wake up, don’t push yourself too hard, accept reality.”

“Haven’t you ever doubted. If everything I saw this afternoon is real, it means our situation is extremely dangerous.”

“What danger?”

“If she truly is an extraordinary martial artist, and that night was a fake, then the goal of her infiltrating the New City Sect has to be questioned.”

“Maybe she thinks I’m too handsome, likes me. Now that she’s almost bitten to death, still don’t you believe your own eyes?”

“I don’t believe.”

Ye Chen glared at her coldly, saying, “Must you wait for someone to die before you believe in their innocence?” He was getting a bit angry.

Ling’er stopped speaking. If she continued to be so certain, Ye Chen would certainly lose his temper.

“Girl, be more obedient. Things have already turned out this way, it’s evident that you saw wrong this afternoon. Don’t be so stubborn, it’s not good, doesn’t endear you to anyone, you know!”

Ling’er still didn’t speak, her attention on her food.

“I’m not blaming you, but this should be the end of it, okay?”

Wan Lan carried in a watermelon and some snacks from outside.

Seeing that the two hadn’t argued over this matter, she was fairly relieved. She believed Ye Chen must have figured it out. The earlier situation was indeed too dangerous.

Wan Lan said, “Ling’er, I’ll prepare some water for you, too. Hurry up and wash up, you’ve been killing all day.”

Ling’er nodded.

At this point, Meng Yan came in from outside. Concerned, Ye Chen asked, “The wounds?”

“It’s nothing, just some minor injuries.”

Ling’er and Wan Lan pretended not to know anything. Wan Lan even intentionally asked what had happened.

Meng Yan also pretended they didn’t know and gave them a simple explanation.

Wan Lan acted surprised, suggested that maybe an outsider had let it in, and hadn’t been completely eradicated. Anyway, she went along with the acting.

Soon, Wan Lan prepared hot water for Ling’er.

Ling’er went back to her room.

Now, only Ye Chen and Meng Yan were left outside.

Ye Chen said, “You’re injured, there’s no need for you to do these things.”

Wan Lan added, “Yeah, we’ll handle these things, why don’t you rest? Or else Ye Chen will be worried about you.”

Ye Chen heard Wan Lan’s tone.

Meng Yan giggled and said, “I’m fine, just a few bruises, it’s not serious injuries. These small tasks are no problem.”

Wan lan quickly snatched the work from her hands, “Now that won’t do, Ye Chen would blame us. Saying we’re immature, things could get messy. Just sit down, if you don’t sit down, Ye Chen might start scolding me. Hurry.”

Meng Ya felt somewhat embarrassed hearing this.
