Chapter 231 - 231 222 Hurry Up and Confess
Chapter 231: Chapter 222: Hurry Up and Confess Chapter 231: Chapter 222: Hurry Up and Confess Unknowingly, it had already become the middle of the night, and Ye Chen asked, “Do you not wish to return home?”
Ling’er glanced at the street, noting that fewer pedestrians were out now, as the night deepened.
Ye Chen warned her, “Don’t be off guard. Gua Zhengnie left some of his men in Wasteland City. They know you and bear deep resentment toward your father, surpassing anyone else. They might be plotting to capture you as we speak. If caught, you can only imagine the consequences.”
Ling’er knew that he was only trying to scare her.
“You’re full of energy, but I can’t keep up with you. Hurry; I’ll take you back.” Ye Chen had already stood up.
It was only then that Ling’er leisurely rose to her feet.
“Where do you want to go, Sky Lake Manor or your current residence?”
Ling’er, slightly tipsy, swayed back and forth and said, “Sky Lake Manor.”
“Alright, anyway, I have to return to the Liuye Manor.”
“Are you really planning to leave without bidding farewell?”
“I am empty-handed anyway. So, I don’t care about anything,” Ye Chen said.
“Don’t go.” Ling’er didn’t know why she uttered these words, perhaps it was the alcohol talking.
“Begging me, huh? Hurry up and confess your feelings, you never know, I might just say yes.”
“Go away.”
Ye Chen chuckled.
The two of them headed downstairs, and the streets were a bit more peaceful.
Several disciples of the New City Sect paced up and down the street, worried that the people Gua Zhengnie had left hiding in the city would cause trouble.
The pair swayed back to Sky Lake Manor, only to find that it had been reduced to mere ruins. It was Gua Zhengnie’s assassins who had invaded Sky Lake Manor. They didn’t find what they were looking for, and had pillaged and set fire, leaving nothing but destruction.
But Liuye Manor, Ye Chen’s fine residence, was untouched. Regardless, Ling’er would obviously not be able to stay at the devastated Sky Lake Manor that night. As she looked at it from the outside, she was seething with rage.
Meanwhile, Ye Chen was laughing.
“What are you laughing at?”
“You can stay behind my house tonight with those beggars. They need you.”
Unable to move, Ling’er squatted down on the ground. She glanced back at Liuye Manor across the street, suddenly turned around, and headed towards Ye Chen’s Liuye Manor.
Ye Chen questioned, “What are you up to, girl? Planning to join me?”
She didn’t respond and merely pushed open the manor gate and went in.
“I’ll take you back to your residence.”
“Having been under attack all day, I doubt anyone can stay at the residence tonight.”
“So, do you plan to stay in my manor tonight and join me?”
However, Ling’er was the first to enter Ye Chen’s room. She went in, closed the door immediately, and before Ye Chen could catch up. He yelled from outside, “I’m not even in yet.”
“I’m too tired. You go and join the beggars in the back.”
“What are you up to, you crazy girl? Are you trying to claim my bed? Where am I supposed to sleep?”
Seated in the room, Ling’er retorted, “Figure something out yourself. I think the beggars will quite like you.”
“Are you out of your mind? You’re being such a bully.”
“I really am exhausted.” Ling’er, evidently tipsy and sleepy, spoke from inside the room.
“So you can’t walk, and that means I have to be responsible?”
“Just shut up, will you?”
Regardless of what Ye Chen said, he couldn’t awaken her.
Ye Chen could only stand outside idly.
What should he do? What can he do? Without any silver, he called out, “Can you lend me some silver?”
No one responded.
“I’m really tired too.”
Still, nobody responded.
These rapidly changing Wastelands, a night of uncertainty. Ye Chen didn’t even know how he made it through the night. Luckily, there was a plank bed in the firewood room.
Wan Lan couldn’t see Ling’er all night and didn’t know what had happened. Only upon learning from Li Mo that both Ling’er and Ye Chen had been drinking, she hurriedly rushed to the inn but found no trace of them.
Ye Chen had spent the night like a stray cat, unaware of what was happening outside. It seemed like there was some commotion across the street that woke him up. When he walked out of his house, he saw Wan Lan leading a group of people over. They planned to clear out Sky Lake Manor.
As he ran into them, Wan Lan, who was carrying a basket in her hand, saw the drowsy Ye Chen and immediately remembered Ling’er. She asked, “Ye Chen, where have you taken our Ling’er?”
Ye Chen, smelling the scent of meat buns, snatched her basket, stepped into the courtyard and called out, “Wifey, wake up, it’s time to eat.”
As a result, a drowsy Ling’er responded, “Do not disturb me, I’m sleeping.”
Disbelieving, Wan Lan shouted, “Ling’er.” Then her eyes narrowed as she looked at Ye Chen and shouted, “You…”
Another loud, “Stop making a fuss.”
lan realized that it was indeed Ling’er’s voice.
“What happened between you two last night?”
“We were drinking.”
“You got Ling’er drunk.”
“If anything, she’s the one that got me drunk.” Ye Chen found a spot and cleaned off the dust on the stone table. He placed the food from the basket on the table, revealing a feast.
“So you both did…that…”
Yet, Ye Chen said, “Anyway, we’re already this old and are adults. It’s just a matter of time. You should prepare to take care of our children when the time comes.”
“Did you get Ling’er drunk on purpose!”
“We both wanted it. What’s wrong with that?”
” I knew it, you are such a lecher.” Wan lan glared at Ye Chen.
“What lecher! It’s perfectly normal, right? The Sect Leader has already approved of our marriage, so we are bound to be together sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time. We simply became an established fact. It’s even good for physical development.”
“Who said that? The Sect Leader was only kidding.”
“A joke? Everyone heard it, how can it be a joke?”
“You two…” Wan Lan stammered, already turning to leave.
“Your dumplings are good, bring me some more nice food, like a bowl of old hen soup, I was tossing and turning all night, I need to replenish myself.” Ye Chen continued eating, his stomach having already digested most of the food.
“I hope it turns you bald.” With this, an irate Mu Wanlan stormed off.
He faced the large lake, not expecting to return here. Some lotus flowers had bloomed on the lake’s surface, a gentle breeze bringing the lotus fragrance towards him.
The lake was peaceful, and a few small boats drifted on the surface as fishermen cast their nets.
Dawn arrived quickly.
Before long, Ling’er woke up, still drowsy and yawning. She asked, “Who came by just now?”
“No one.” Ye Chen continued eating.
“No one? But you have dumplings.”
“Hehe, a kind person gave them to me for my contributions in defending the city.”
“But they didn’t give me any.”
“Do you want to eat, or do you want to keep being petty?”
Ling’er drew a bucket of water from the well and washed her face.
After settling some matters at the Sky Lake Manor, Wan Lan left and returned to her residence.
Wei Sisan had just arrived in the courtyard, just as Wan Lan was coming in from outside.
Wei Sisan asked, “Where is Ling’er? Didn’t she return last night?”
“She didn’t.” A maid replied.
At that moment, Wan Lan had arrived in the courtyard.
“She didn’t return all of last night?” Just having chased away Gua Zhengnie, he couldn’t help but worry if Gua’s men would harm his daughter.
“She was with Ye Chen and stayed at Liuye Manor last night.” Wan Lan casually let it slip, instantly realising her mistake.
“With Ye Chen? She didn’t come back last night?”
She suddenly regretted her words.
“How do you know?” Wei Sisan questioned.
“I was just arranging some things at Sky Lake Manor and happened to see Ye Chen.”
“Ye Chen and Ling’er stayed together last night?”
Wan Lan didn’t dare to say more, the two maidens behind her heard everything.
Wei Sisan hurriedly left.
Wan Lan watched as Wei Sisan disappeared into the distance.
Wan Lan asked, “Did I say something wrong?”
The two maidens behind her dared not answer and continued their chores.
Ye Chen asked Ling’er, “Did you find my bed comfortable?”
“It stinks of sweat.”
“You should have said so, you shouldn’t have slept on it.”
Ling’er touched her somewhat painful forehead, the effects of the alcohol hadn’t completely worn off yet.
“The dumplings aren’t bad.” Ling’er commented.
“Nice, right?”
Ling’er glanced at Sky Lake Manor opposite to them, where some novices of New City Sect were busy at work.
“If you like it here, just stay. We can live together in the future.”
Soon, someone entered and caused Ye Chen to jump. It was none other than Wei Sisan, Ling’er’s father, making Ling’er turn around.
Wei Sisan said, “Starting to build a life together, are we?”
“Father.” Ling’er blushed, looking as if she’d done something guilty.
“Not bad, the food is good.”
“Yes, would you like to try some?” Ye Chen offered courteously.
“It seems I was worried for nothing and feared you two weren’t suitable. You’re making swift progress, faster than I imagined.” He could smell alcohol, “You drank last night”
Ye Chen said, “We only had a little, Sect Leader, but it’s not like you think.” He must have been misled by Wan Lan’s tales.
“Oh, what do you think I’m thinking? You’re already living here.” Wei Sisan countered.
Her father must have misunderstood something. Ling’er said, “Father, we…”
“Hurry and tidy up your clothes, return to the residence, Ye Chen, you come too.” Wei Sisan turned and left without waiting for an explanation from Ling’er.
Wei Sisan had left the courtyard.
Ye Chen said, “I think your father misunderstood something.”
“How did my father know I was in your courtyard?” Ling’er asked, confused.
“Wan Lan was here earlier.”
“The food was brought by Wan Lan.”
“When I came out, I saw Wan Lan heading towards Sky Lake Manor.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Why would I need to tell you?”
“Was it Wan Lan calling me just now?” Ling’er continued, “You must have been talking nonsense, right?”
“I may have said a few things. Plus, she was pretty angry.” Ye Chen admitted.
“What do you mean ‘a few things’? You must have blabbered nonsense with that foul mouth of yours.” Ling’er retorted, suspicious of Ye Chen’s deviance.
