Chapter 1453 - 1453 1439 Waking Up
Chapter 1453: Chapter 1439: Waking Up Chapter 1453: Chapter 1439: Waking Up After he woke up, he hardly needed to think about what would happen next, but who could defeat Su Zhanze? Perhaps she really should write a letter to Qing’er, asking Qing’er to make a move. Even if Qing’er failed, Su Zhanze wouldn’t kill Qing’er.
Yet the thought of asking Qing’er to do such a thing was something she couldn’t bear. She believed that, despite the fact Qing’er had sent Su Zhanze back to Immortal City, Qing’er definitely wouldn’t start over with him. She was very confident about this.
Truly letting Qing’er, as the Black Demonic Spirit suggested, get close to Su Zhanze and then poison him to death, she couldn’t do it. Better to wait until Ye Chen woke up.
If only she had known, when she was treating Su Zhanze, she should have played some tricks, created chaos in his meridians, and planted a time bomb, causing him to deviate into madness. Now it was too late for regrets.
How could there be such wicked people in this world? Ye Chen had saved him multiple times and even let her treat him, yet he actually hoped for others to fall into devilry. There couldn’t be anything more poisonous. What more could be said?
People are just too naive, too trusting that everyone is good.
Drip drop, drip drop…
The sound of raindrops hitting the roof tiles reached them, as people realized that it had begun to rain unwittingly. A gust of cold wind blew in, bringing the rain with it, making one feel several degrees colder.
Li Mo walked in and asked, “You haven’t rested yet?”
Yang Tao’er looked over, nodded slightly, and said, “Hmm, I want to see if he’s going to ‘depart’ early.”
Li Mo said, “He won’t. Tonight, I’ll keep watch. If anything happens, I’ll tell you.”
Yang Tao’er stood up and said, “Of course you’ll keep watch, but I think he won’t have any troubles. You should rest when it’s time.” She had already walked out of the room.
It was a night without a trace, but the rain kept on pouring down heavily all night long, and it hadn’t stopped even by the next morning. One really wondered when the heavens intended to stop.
The inn was bustling with people coming and going, and the streets outside were already a muddy mess.
Everyone gathered in the inn to have breakfast, and they chose the same spot by the window on the second floor as last night.
The Black Demonic Spirit spoke, “Luckily, we came back early last night, otherwise we’d be drenched chickens today.” As he gnawed on a meat bun, he swept his gaze around, checking to see if any attractive women passed by
Li Mo stated, “It’s a good opportunity for us to take a day’s rest.”
“I reckon this rain won’t stop anytime soon.” The Black Demonic Spirit’s eyes suddenly fixed on something, his neck stretching an extra two inches.
Yang Tao’er followed his gaze and indeed saw a beautiful girl passing by, saying, “I should write to Ah Ya.”
The Black Demonic Spirit’s attention was drawn back, and he asked, “What’s the matter? Can’t I take a look?”
“You’re practically drooling.”
“I suppose you only look at men.”
“I truly can’t understand how Ah Ya ended up marrying you.”
“I’m outstanding, isn’t that obvious?”
“Nonsense, you outstanding?” Yang Tao’er retorted.
“You’re seriously in touch with Ah Ya, aren’t you?”
“Why couldn’t I be?”
“Damn it, now I get it. It’s like Ah Ya is right beside me, knowing every move I make. So that’s how it is.”
“I’m too lazy to bother with your affairs,” Yang Tao’er said coldly.
Approaching noon, the one lying in bed finally slowly opened his eyes.
He felt like he had slept for a very long time; he had a long dream, dreaming that he was floating on a vast, fog-shrouded sea, clinging to a large piece of wood and drifting along with the wind, not knowing for how long. He finally saw land, and the dream ended as he woke up.
Opening his eyes and looking around, there was much he couldn’t remember, but the last thing, Su Zhanze’s dark palm, was vivid in his memory, as if it had just happened.
Why was there only one person in the room? She was laying her face down on the table, only half of her face visible, but he could tell it was Yang Tao’er.
The rain outside was sparsely falling, with no sight of the sun. Probably, there’d be no sun for the whole day.
He felt completely exhausted and very hungry.
A cough startled Yang Tao’er, who had been leaning on the table. She looked over, first to confirm, but without excitement. Perhaps the scare in the cave had affected her. Although she knew the magic power in his body was gone, she still felt a trace of fear, worried that he might pounce at her.
Ye Chen, pressing his head, arched up and asked, “How long have I slept?”
Assured that he was clear-headed and not ranting like a mad dog, Yang Tao’er breathed a sigh of relief, moved closer, and answered, “It’s been about seven or eight days.”
“I’ve slept that long?” He sat up on the bed and asked, “Just you? Where’s Yun’er?”
Yang Tao’er didn’t respond but called out, “Li Mo, quickly prepare something to eat.” She added, “You must be starving, right?”
Ye Chen tried to recall what had happened afterward but couldn’t remember. His head hurt as he murmured, “I must’ve done a lot of things afterward.”
“There certainly wasn’t a shortage of things, but it’s good that you’ve awakened,” she said.
Hearing Yang Tao’er’s call, Li Mo hurried in, his excitement evident upon confirming Ye Chen had awakened.
Yang Tao’er was much calmer than him, saying, “Don’t just stand there; go prepare the food.”
Li Mo nodded and hurried downstairs.
Ye Chen asked again, “Where is Yun’er?”
Yang Tao’er thought it was better to wait until he had eaten before telling him the truth, so she lied, “She went out, followed the Black Demonic Spirit, saying she wanted to bring back something to eat.”
Ye Chen felt very strange. He tried to sense his surroundings but couldn’t detect any demonic energy. He had definitely been hit by Su Zhanze’s demonic energy. He said, “Hey, the demonic energy has disappeared.”
He put on his clothes, tidied himself up, and walked over.
Yang Tao’er said, “Of course, how could you possibly wake up if the demonic energy wasn’t removed?”
“It was all your doing then.”
“Who else would possess such medical skills but me?”
“What happened afterward, I really can’t remember at all.” Ye Chen tried desperately to recall, but couldn’t remember anything.
Yang Tao’er said, “You were like possessed, screaming and shouting like a madman, like a rabid dog. It took a lot of effort to get you under control.”
“I can’t remember any of it.”
As they were talking, Li Mo led the waiter in with the food.
Yang Tao’er said, “Don’t think about it, eat something first, and then we can talk.”
“Wasn’t Yun’er going with the Black Demonic Spirit to get food? Let’s wait for them to come back before we eat.”
Hearing this, Li Mo looked at Yang Tao’er, and she quickly said, “Better eat your meal. Yun’er doesn’t know if you would wake up today, and who knows when she’ll be back.”
Ye Chen nodded slightly, “That is true; that girl, when she starts playing, always forgets the time.” He picked up his chopsticks, looked at Li Mo, and asked, “Seven days have passed. Surely, a lot has happened in the Immortal Demon World.”
Li Mo was just about to answer.
Yang Tao’er interrupted, “Let’s talk about that after lunch.”
Li Mo said hastily, “Right, after lunch, I’ll tell you.”
“You haven’t had lunch yet, have you? Join us.”
“No, I should check where the Black Demonic Spirit and the others have gone off to play.” Li Mo then turned and left.
Suddenly, the room was left with only Ye Chen and Yang Tao’er.
Yang Tao’er tore off a chicken leg and handed it over, saying, “Eat this chicken leg.”
“Could I have entered a demonic trance?” Feeling that he could not remember what happened afterward, Ye Chen knew that such memory lapses occurred after a demonic trance, which he had experienced before.
“Nonsense, if you had really entered a demonic trance, could you still be sitting here calmly eating?”
Ye Chen chuckled and nodded, saying, “That’s true.”
Yang Tao’er offered him some fish, “Eat the fish.”
This girl was truly acting peculiar. He had never enjoyed this kind of treatment before. What was happening today? She seemed to be treating him like a younger brother, which he found a bit awkward to adjust to. He laughed and said, “I can pick it up myself. I haven’t turned into an old man yet.”
It was then Yang Tao’er realized she might have gone too far, and she also picked up her chopsticks to eat.
Outside, the rain continued to fall.
All of a sudden, Ye Chen became worried and said, “The Longhun must have been defeated, right?”
“Yes, defeated. The Dragon Slaying Clan was also defeated,” Yang Tao’er replied, her head low as she ate.
“You girl, why do I feel like you have a lot on your mind?”
Yang Tao’er looked up and asked, “Do I?”
“Yes, I can feel it.”
“Eat your food. If there’s anything to say, we can talk later.”
Ye Chen recalled the events that followed, saying, “So, Su Zhanze won, then? Who has the Sacred Spirit Stone now?”
“In Su Zhanze’s hands.”
Ye Chen shuddered in shock, “Why would that guy want to kill me?” There must have been some unexpected event.
“Ah, can we just eat first? I’m really hungry too.”
Ye Chen felt even more that something was being hidden from him. Having just eaten a roast chicken leg, he said, “You’re hiding something from me.” Suddenly, he remembered the time he had killed Nangong Yan. Just now, he had noticed Yang Tao’er and Li Mo exchanging glances—those two had never been so intimate before.
“What reason would I have to hide anything from you?”
“Could it be I’ve killed Yun’er?” Ye Chen panicked.
Yang Tao’er looked up quickly and said urgently, “No.”
Her frightened reaction made Ye Chen even more convinced that something was amiss. He must have become half-human, half-demon; otherwise, how could he not remember what happened later? Su Zhanze’s slap had been infused with demonic energy, disrupting his meridians upon entering his body. He said, “Don’t hide it from me any longer, tell me, what happened to Yun’er?”
It seemed impossible to keep the secret any longer.
