Chapter 1446 - 1446 1432 Petty
Chapter 1446: Chapter 1432: Petty Chapter 1446: Chapter 1432: Petty Ren Haotian saw that things had taken a turn for the worse; the souls of his men were thoroughly frightened. Originally over a hundred strong, they were decimated by Su Zhanze, who slaughtered them mercilessly like a demon. With no one able to withstand the sword, they could only flee for their lives, clearly collapsing in chaos.
Although he wielded the Immortal Pearl, it was inconsequential compared to the Dragon Slayer Sword, unable to withstand even half a move. As the sword cleaved through the air, streaks of lightning struck, blasting him away. He flew several meters, barely managing to keep his footing.
He turned to flee.
Su Zhanze, having seen Yu Qing safely taken away, dashed into the forest behind him. At that moment, Ren Haotian’s minions also scattered in all directions to save themselves. How could Su Zhanze let such a perfect plan slip away? He was determined to kill Ren Haotian.
Ren Haotian had captured his woman and tarnished his reputation. If Ren Haotian were spared and lived, given the chance, he would surely stir trouble again, perhaps even capture Guo Yuqing. It was essential to kill one to warn the others, to see who would dare to oppose him in the future.
Ren Haotian could have never anticipated Su Zhanze’s swift arrival.
The men following him, under the barrage of lightning, vaporized into gas.
“Trying to run? I see your time is up. If you hadn’t captured my woman, I might have let you live a few more days, but since you insisted on threatening me with her, you can’t blame me for this.”
With a leap, the Dragon Slayer Sword unleashed dozens of bolts of lightning, which, like a monster opening its gaping maw, threatened to devour them.
Ren Haotian used everything he had, extracting the energy from the Immortal Pearl, coordinating with the few loyal followers left to form a defensive formation. The energy manifested as a giant turtle, blocking the lightning assault; otherwise, they would have all ascended to heaven earlier.
But for Su Zhanze, none of this mattered. Two explosive energies burst forth from within him, one red and one black, the Fire Mastiff and the Dark Beast respectively. These energies coalesced into a sphere of lightning, which, with a thunderous boom, struck the semi-transparent giant turtle.
The turtle shell shattered instantly, and the people within were blasted away.
Of course, Ren Haotian was also thrown back, flying several meters before crashing down, with no idea where the Immortal Pearl had gone.
Su Zhanze didn’t care about the others; he chased directly towards the direction Ren Haotian had flown to, and sure enough, found him among the tall weeds.
Su Zhanze shouted, “Hiding turtle, how does it feel? Cooped up in the weeds, not daring to show your face. Weren’t you supposed to be tough?”
Today seemed to be his downfall. He shouldn’t have captured Guo Yuqing. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have provoked Su Zhanze or faced the events of tonight. But now it was too late. When he captured Qing’er, he intended to use her to threaten him, but eventually gave up. Little did he know that capturing Qing’er would bring disaster upon himself.
Laughter rang out. Su Zhanze thought he must have heard wrong as Ren Haotian crawled out of the weeds.
Curious, Su Zhanze asked, “You’re laughing? How can you still laugh?”
Ren Haotian, clutching his chest, walked out from them, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, and said with a laugh, “When I see a pitiful creature, why can’t I laugh?”
Su Zhanze, still gripping the Dragon Slayer Sword, retorted, “I’m the pitiful one? I think you must be drunk. Now, who’s truly pitiful? Isn’t it you? You wanted revenge, to avenge your father, but you failed to succeed. Look at the state you’re in now; you won’t live past tonight. So who’s really the pitiful one?”
“Yes, I can’t get my revenge, but I am not pitiful. I tried my best. Though I couldn’t bring you down, I managed to ruin your reputation. You’ve always aimed to be like your father, a man people admire. Now you’re infamous. Even if you unify the Demon Domain in the future, who will willingly follow you?”
Su Zhanze sneered, “You’re really imagining quite a lot. Right now, you should be groveling on the ground like a dog, begging me. I might just spare your life.”
“Pah! Beg you? Please, you’re the pitiful one. You think you’ve won? Do you really believe you’ve won? Without Ye Chen, could you defeat Longhun? Do you really have the capability?”
“Everyone saw that I am the winner” — let the man laugh for a while, he wouldn’t survive the night anyway.
“But who doesn’t know you’re just picking up a dead man’s spoils?”
“Heh, is that what makes you so happy?”
“No one will truly follow you, nobody will sincerely submit to you.”
“I couldn’t care less about that. But for now, I am the biggest winner here, and soon, I’ll kill Longhun. Just wait; he’ll soon join you down below.”
“And Guo Yuqing? Your beloved Guo Yuqing, who loves Ye Chen. The woman you want to love wholeheartedly doesn’t have you in her heart and even hates you. You’ll never gain her true affection, does that not bother you?”
At that, Su Zhanze’s face changed, and he blurted out, “Shut your mouth.”
Ren Haotian, clapping his hands, laughed and said, “Do you think Qing’er will still live a good life with you? Does she not know what you did to Ye Chen? She knows everything. Even if you possess her, you’ll never win her true heart, and that’s not pitiful enough for you?”
Su Zhanze glared at Ren Haotian.
“If that’s the case, and you don’t care, then I have nothing more to say. But could you really be someone who doesn’t care? Who are you fooling? We grew up together; your pettiness is no secret to us. Just because Ye Chen rescued Yu Qing in that cave, you became jealous and suspicious, driving Yu Qing to her breaking point and pushing her straight into Ye Chen’s arms. You’ve been resentful over this petty issue, and you dare say you don’t care?”
Ren Haotian continued laughing, “He didn’t do anything to your wife and let you two be together, but what then? In the end, didn’t you still drive her away?”
“That’s still all thanks to you and your father’s fine work. If it weren’t for you two, we wouldn’t have been captured, nor would there have been a breakup later on.”
Ren Haotian shook his head and said, “You really know how to shirk responsibility, never looking for the problem within yourself. But what about later? Why did he still not choose to be with you?”
“That’s because Ye Chen was on his mind, but it doesn’t matter now, the guy won’t live much longer.”
“You say you don’t care, but just because he has Ye Chen in his heart… I tell you, you don’t understand Qing’er at all. Qing’er chose not to be with you because she knows what kind of person you are. The things you’ve done make people feel sick. How could you, a petty person with such a narrow mind, who always thinks only of himself, be worthy of Qing’er?”
Fire flared in Su Zhanze’s eyes as they began bulging, his hand tightly clutching his sword, teeth clenched.
Ren Haotian continued, “Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Didn’t you go to a divine healer for plastic surgery? Then why are you still wearing a mask? You’re afraid Qing’er will despise you, aren’t you? In fact, Qing’er has never cared about that. Everyone else knows it’s your dark heart that she despises. Your heart is uglier than your face, and I bet you’ll never admit it, you pitifully insecure person. No matter how kind you are to Qing’er, she will never fall in love with you, you eternally immature wretch.”
“Damn it, it looks like you really want to die.” With a slash of his sword, Su Zhanze sent more than a dozen bolts of lightning piercing straight through Ren Haotian’s chest.
With a crack, Ren Haotian fell to the ground.
“So many last words before dying. If you’d said something nice, I might have considered our childhood friendship and let you live a little longer.” With that, Su Zhanze spat on the corpse.
Guo Yuqing appeared from behind. She had been worried Su Zhanze would kill Ren Haotian and had broken free from the others, but, sadly, she did not arrive in time.
“Why did you kill him?”
His heart skipped a beat at her sudden appearance. How did she come back? Chen Yu, gasping for breath, followed behind her. He knew exactly what had happened and said, “He was going to capture you, and he might have killed you.”
“He wasn’t going to kill me, you’re just presumptuous.”
“But he captured you.”
“I was safe then, why did you have to kill him?”
“You never know when he might capture you again.”
“Nonsense, you killed him because he embarrassed you. But you had already killed his father, and now you’ve won again. No matter what he said, he was still your childhood friend. How could you not spare him?”
“I really did it for your own good.”
“For my good? Was driving Ye Chen to madness also for my good?”
Chen Yu didn’t dare to come closer.
Su Zhanze said, “He drove himself to madness.”
“Lie to someone else. Li Mo was nearby at the time and saw everything. It was you who let the demonic energy into his body.”
Cursed be that damned wind that suddenly changed direction, dispersing the white smoke. Su Zhanze said, “Yes, it’s true. I caused him to go mad, but I had no other choice.” He decided not to hide it anymore, seeing no need for pretense.
Guo Yuqing had never heard such a confession filled with staunch justification. She asked, “What do you mean you had no other choice but to drive him to madness?”
“Yes, after the big battle, he was planning to side with the people from the Immortal Demon Realm and come after me.”
“That’s nonsense. Ye Chen never agreed to go against you after the battle. You’re the one with a guilty conscience.” Guo Yuqing immediately exposed his lie.
“That kid is no good. He shamed me.”
“What? He shamed you?”
“On Paper Kite Island, he knew I was innocent, but he insisted on defeating me. Isn’t that a humiliation to me?”
Guo Yuqing shook her head and said, “He did it to clear your name, for the sake of your innocence.”
“I was innocent to begin with. He could have found another way, but he didn’t. Instead, he chose to humiliate me in front of everyone.”
“You really are small-minded, unredeemably so.”
“I had no choice. He had to die, or I would have been threatened.”
