Chapter 1403 - 1403 1389 Fear
Chapter 1403: Chapter 1389: Fear Chapter 1403: Chapter 1389: Fear Hearing the conversation between Ren Haotian and Su Zhanze, Qing’er grew panicked, thinking to herself, were Ye Chen and Yun’er killed by Su Zhanze?
Luo Rui ran over, grabbed Qing’er, and said, “We should step aside and avoid this.” She had gone out to look for Shi Xueqin but, not finding her, came directly to Qing’er instead, taking the opportunity to tell her what had happened.
Qing’er glanced over, knowing they could be of no help at that moment.
Luo Rui continued, “Us being here won’t help them, and we might even get hurt for no reason. It’s better to hide somewhere nearby for now.”
Lou Xuancheng walked over, also fixed his gaze on the battle ahead, where Su Zhanze was fighting with Longhun. He had been observing the whole time and called out, “Luo Rui, take Qing’er to the back. We have many injured people, go and help them.”
Luo Rui nodded and began to lead Qing’er to the rear.
Qing’er asked, “Did you hear them? They said that Su Zhanze killed my sister and him.”
“That’s not true, you must have heard wrong. It definitely wasn’t Su Zhanze; how could he kill your sister? Don’t listen to their nonsense,” Luo Rui replied, unsure of what else to say.
“It must be because of me, I’ve caused them harm,” Qing’er lamented.
“Miss, stop thinking about this, come with me to help at the back. There are many injured,” Luo Rui said, looking at the wounded being taken away.
Lou Xuancheng’s eyes remained intently fixed on Longhun and Su Zhanze.
Hu Nanyue said, “Both of their martial arts powers are too strong; even if we want to help, we can’t get close.”
Guan Yi nodded and added, “Yeah, we can’t really help, but it seems Su Zhanze is able to cope.”
Hu Nanyue held the same opinion.
Lou Xuancheng looked on seriously, thinking that if Su Zhanze could handle it, that would be great. But if he couldn’t, they would need to make other plans.
Hu Nanyue suggested, “Let’s just watch their fight for now and then decide what to do.”
Lou Xuancheng instructed, “Guan Yi, guard the rearguard, make sure no one flanks us.”
With a smile, Hu Nanyue said, “Junior, you’ve already checked twice; are you still worried about a possible flanking maneuver?”
“You know as well as I do, Longhun likes to strike unexpectedly. Has he not done such things before?”
“We already have some people guarding the back; it’s an easy place to defend but hard to attack. They won’t choose that position; we’ve arranged for some Immortal Beasts to be at the rear.”
Guan Yi also remarked, “Right, the rear is easy to defend and hard to attack. They would need a large force to breach our defenses.”
Lou Xuancheng, however, insisted, “Still, better safe than sorry.”
Guan Yi assured, “Don’t worry, I will take full responsibility for the rear defense.” He then led a large group of people towards the back.
After assessing Longhun’s level of skill, Su Zhanze quietly said to himself, “Turns out you’re not all that impressive; wait until you see what it’s like when two beasts attack.”
It turned out that he had lured the Fire Mastiff to possess him before, had planned to murder Longhun but failed. Fang Ziren had knocked him off a cliff, nearly causing him to become a demon. He then encountered Ling Li, narrowly escaping that fate. However, he had to find a way to get rid of the Fire Mastiff, or even gods couldn’t save him. With Ling Li’s and several other experts’ help, he managed to expel the Fire Mastiff.
Later, after obtaining the Dark Beast and the correct version of the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual, his martial arts improved steadily, he overcame the danger of becoming possessed, and to increase his power, he had the Dark Beast possess him, deeming the Fire Mastiff unnecessary.
This time, he knew fighting Longhun was a matter of life and death, and he might not be his match, so he took the risk and allowed the Fire Mastiff to possess him as well. Doing so would greatly increase his chances of success.
If he lost to Longhun, everything he had gained would turn to dust, and he might even die in battle. Therefore, it was worth bringing the Fire Mastiff into himself, for over the course of more than a month in seclusion, his martial arts had greatly improved, reaching heights previously unattainable.
He was confident he could control both the Fire Mastiff and the Dark Beast; that’s why he did it.
After more than two hours of fighting, he realized Longhun was not as formidable as he’d imagined. At that moment, they were evenly matched. If he could unleash the full power of the Fire Mastiff now, his martial arts ability would increase tenfold. As long as he could maintain control, Longhun would surely be taken by surprise.
Suddenly, with a roar, Su Zhanze appeared as though he were engulfed in flames. His eyes turned fiery red. The Dark Beast seemed poised to leap out at any moment, and behind it, an even larger Fire Mastiff lay hidden.
Su Zhanze shouted, “Longhun, prepare to die.”
Longhun wasn’t sure why the man wearing the mask was so confident, daring to make such a bold declaration, as if he hadn’t already been looking for him.
Under the effect of the blazing inferno, Su Zhanze seemed to merge with the Dragon Slayer Sword, transforming into a lightning dragon, with the sword becoming the dragon’s head. With a roar, he charged directly at Longhun.
Longhun released a light wave that turned into an energy shield to protect himself, but he felt Su Zhanze’s power suddenly surge, as if it had increased more than tenfold.
Impossible, how could he still increase his strength? He should have reached his limit, yet his power indeed soared more than tenfold.
Like a fiery meteor coming from the north, it circled in the sky, and with a sonic boom at supersonic speed, it directly hit the exterior of the light wave. With a loud bang, it released a shockwave.
Longhun wasn’t fast enough, and in an instant, the shockwave devoured the protective circle. With a thunderous roar, the energy, along with the lightning, struck Longhun, turning his location into a wasteland shrouded in dust and obscurity.
In an instant, Su Zhanze had penetrated the protective circle forged from Sacred Spirit Stones. He was ecstatic and immediately channeled all of his reserved energy, howling and unleashing it all at once to make sure not even the remnants of Longhun or the Dragon Slaying Clan would be found.
Lightning densely raced towards that devastated area.
At that moment, everyone believed Longhun was beyond saving.
The inhabitants of the Immortal Demon Domain grew excited.
From a distance, Xiong Shuobo watched, surprised that Su Zhanze had defeated Longhun so easily. It seemed the Sacred Spirit Stones were not as miraculous as people claimed, unable to withstand even the Dragon Slayer Sword.
But their astonishment deepened when, just as the energy was about to dissipate, a howl emanated from within, followed by the reemergence of a red glow in the dusty haze. Though dim, it began to absorb the surrounding energy like a beacon, growing increasingly dazzling.
How could this be happening? Such immense energy was unleashed, and there should have been nothing capable of withstanding it. Su Zhanze watched the wasteland in horror and disbelief, still gasping for breath.
Soon the dense smoke cleared, revealing Longhun, who, aside from his clothes being burnt and his face smeared with soot, appeared unharmed and stood there as if nothing had happened.
Su Zhanze thought he was seeing a ghost, but whether the figure was human or spectral, he lashed out with another bolt of lightning. How could Longhun endure such formidable energy? The protective shield had been shattered, and with all that lightning striking, how could he emerge unscathed?
With one sword strike, multiple bolts of lightning, both blue and red, surged towards that indistinct figure.
The red glow was unmistakably still absorbing energy, no, it was the Sacred Spirit Stone absorbing the energy.
At that moment, the lightning bolts released by Su Zhanze resembled a ravenous monster with its jaws wide open, lunging at the enemy in a bid to devour him, nearly triumphing.
In that split second, the red glow suddenly unleashed an energy that formed a sword-like ray, confronting the lightning bolts. The three lightning bolts, in less than a moment, were devoured, and then, Longhun sprang forward, shooting into mid-air with a clap of thunder, transforming another ray of light into a massive axe that swung down at Su Zhanze from above.
Su Zhanze couldn’t believe this was real, but reality affirmed that all of it was true. Not a ghost, but a man. How had he done it? How had he seemingly brushed off the onslaught of energy as if it were nothing? It was an exceptionally unbelievable event.
The giant axe conjured by Longhun was upon him. Su Zhanze raised his sword, but before he could fully prepare, the axe cleaved down, blasting him back to the ground with a resounding crash.
He rolled several yards upon landing. If it weren’t for the Dragon Slayer Sword offering some buffer and him taking the chance to evade, his head would likely not have been spared.
Longhun roared like a Moon Beast.
The sky above darkened instantly as clouds gathered, turning the daylight hellish in a mere moment.
Impossible, how could Longhun roar like a monster? Could he be harboring some mighty beast within, Su Zhanze wondered as he rose from the ground. It had to be a Giant Beast inside him, protecting him, or how else could he have withstood the furious assault of the lightning?
Everyone was stunned. Was this figure human or ghost, and why couldn’t they kill him? It made no sense. Even Lou Xuancheng from afar was dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what had happened.
Stretching lazily, Longhun said, “You can draw a Fire Mastiff and a Dark Beast onto yourself, why can’t I?”
Su Zhanze’s guess wasn’t wrong—there was indeed something on Longhun. But what it was, certainly something much more formidable than the Dark Beast and Fire Mastiff. All that lightning, enough to pierce through a protection circle conjured by Sacred Spirit Stones, failed even to singe him. No ordinary being could achieve such a feat, and there was also the matter of the clouds gathering—what summoned them?
