Chapter 1399 - 1399 1385 Leaving
Chapter 1399: Chapter 1385: Leaving Chapter 1399: Chapter 1385: Leaving Ye Chen couldn’t just rid himself of the magic power on his body. If Su Zhanze were defeated, how would he deal with Longhun later? Without the Wolf King’s Ring, he would stand no chance against Longhun. He had to prepare for the worst-case scenario: Longhun defeating Su Zhanze, and then figuring out what to do next.
Once he thought about that, he couldn’t immediately remove the magic power. He decided to wait till everything was over. Even if he really agreed with their suggestion, it would have to be after defeating the Dragon Slaying Clan.
Yang Tao’er warned, “The magic power in your body is unstable. If something goes wrong, you’ll be consumed by it.”
“I’ve survived this long, and now I have you by my side, I believe you definitely have a way to help me get through this,” Ye Chen said.
“Either you’re a fool or an absolute idiot to refuse the help available to you,” Yang Tao’er scoffed coldly.
“I just need to prepare for the worst,” Ye Chen replied.
Guo Yuyun was initially very excited, but after hearing what Ye Chen had to say, she understood his point and calmed down somewhat.
“Let’s think of something quick, acupuncture or anything that works. Just help me control the magic power so I can use it a few more times,” Ye Chen said.
“Completely insane, you still want to use it more?!” Yang Tao’er couldn’t believe what she heard.
“If there’s a way to increase my martial arts skills, that’d be even better,” he fretted, worrying that even with the Wolf King’s Ring, he still might be no match for Longhun.
Yang Tao’er shook her head and walked out of the room, as if she was hungry and in search of a late-night snack.
Guo Yuyun’s eyes were full of tender emotion as she looked at him.
Ye Chen smiled and said, “Hey, don’t worry. If Su Zhanze can defeat Longhun, I’ll listen to you.”
Guo Yuyun was left speechless.
“Who would have thought they’d find a way? I have to admit, I’m impressed,” Ye Chen pushed Guo Yuyun slightly and said, “Let’s go out for a late-night snack.”
He caught up with Yang Tao’er, saying, “You must have some medicine here that can boost strength.”
“You really want it, you unisex oddball?” She was exasperated with him; he probably didn’t realize how dangerous his condition was and was indeed looking to enhance his martial power through medicine.
“Hey, I just want to be prepared in case I’m not a match for Longhun,” he quipped.
As they were about to exit the inn, Li Mo arrived in a flurry of excitement, looking as elated as if he had seen his bride.
Ye Chen quickly said, “Hey, big guy, don’t cry. What will others think if they see you like this?”
“I can’t help but be overwhelmed,” Li Mo said.
“That’s enough,” Ye Chen replied.
Li Mo was still filled with excitement.
“Alright, everyone’s safe, that’s what’s important. Let’s go eat and talk,” Ye Chen said.
The situation he learned from Li Mo was pretty much the same as the one from the Red Demonic Spirit, no major discrepancies.
Ye Chen was puzzled, “Why isn’t there any sign of the Black Demonic Spirit?”
The Red Demonic Spirit laughed coldly, “He wouldn’t stick around to keep you company. He’s long gone.”
Ye Chen suddenly remembered Ah Ya’s situation and said with a smile, “Right, don’t lose heart. There are plenty of opportunities. I noticed during our walk that the girls on this island are all naturally beautiful.”
Guo Yuyun overheard this from behind and kicked out, shouting, “Naturally beautiful, huh?!”
Ye Chen quickly turned around and said, “Hey, no matter how naturally beautiful they are, they can’t compare to you. You’re in a league of your own.”
Guo Yuyun wasn’t buying it. She was unhappy because she had taken him out for a walk to lift his spirits, yet all he did was ogle the girls on the street. She couldn’t let this slide.
“You better not start. Remember how you begged me day and night to be with you?”
Guo Yuyun, still fuming, hurried after him, not prepared to let him off the hook.
The others laughed heartily behind them.
The morning mist still hadn’t fully cleared, and the sea looked as if it were blanketed by a thin layer of cotton candy.
They had already delayed too much and didn’t want to waste any more time. Even setting sail now meant they wouldn’t arrive in time for the final battle. Still, they might be able to help when they got there, so they agreed to head back as quickly as possible.
The battle might not be decided in a single day.
The ship headed into the misty fog.
Guo Yuyun, carrying a load with Yang Tao’er, hurried aboard since they might have to spend several days on the ship. They had woken up early and gone to the streets to buy delicious food, returning with all sorts of goodies.
“Time for breakfast.”
“You’re acting as if the ship will never dock again,” Ye Chen remarked upon seeing them with their packages.
Panting, Guo Yuyun said, “Quick, eat your breakfast so Yang Tao’er can give you a treatment.” She knew she couldn’t stop Ye Chen, and found his choices inevitable.
Li Mo also came on board, adding, “I’ve already sent a message to the Sacred Spirit Sect with a carrier pigeon, telling them you’re still alive. After learning about the acceptance of the Battle Letter by the Demon Domain, they already set out from the thirty-six islands.”
Ye Chen called out, “You probably haven’t had breakfast either, right?”
Li Mo continued, “They’re coming to regroup with us first.”
Ye Chen’s stomach was indeed starting to feel empty.
“Have you been in contact with the Demon Domain?”
“Yes, I have been maintaining contact with Lou Xuancheng and the others,”
“If there’s any situation with them, inform me promptly,” Guo Yuyun said.
“Yes, I will,” answered Luo Rui.
Guo Yuyun cautioned, “You all should be careful not to get targeted by those Dragon Slaying Clan folks.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve been on the One Hundred and Eight Islands for two months now. I am quite familiar with these islands. Moreover, the attention of the Dragon Slaying Clan members is entirely on dealing with the Immortal Demon Realm,” Li Mo said as he bought two Grilled Sesame Seed Cakes and went downstairs.
Soon, it was only the three of them left.
The sun had not yet risen, but the sky was already bright. They sat on the deck, with a canopy of sky above them.
What was left was the waiting.
All they could hear was the wind whistling past their ears.
Dragonfly Mountain.
A servant girl burst in.
Luo Rui was just about to tidy up her clothes and come out.
The girl who ran in exclaimed, “Shi Xueqin is missing.”
Shi Xueqin had only recently given birth. Her health had improved a bit in the past few days, and she still needed someone to take care of her daily.
Stunned, Luo Rui replied, “She might have gone for a walk in the forest behind.”
“No,” the servant girl handed Luo Rui a note.
Looking at the note, Luo Rui was shocked. It read, “I’ve gone to find Longhun.”
“Damn, that girl has gone mad,” Luo Rui rushed to Shi Xueqin’s room. Ever since Yang Tao’er and Guo Yuqing had left, the task of caring for Shi Xueqin had mainly fallen to her, along with two other servant girls who had come later.
The child, too, was nowhere to be seen.
The girl from behind said, “She must want to stop Longhun from the grand battle with the Immortal Demon Realm.”
“That girl must have lost her mind. How could she possibly stop Longhun?” Luo Rui murmured to herself.
The servant girl continued, “I think she must have left last night.”
Luo Rui pondered with confusion, “No wonder I didn’t hear the baby crying all night. I found it strange since there’s usually a spell of crying at the third or fourth watch.”
“So she must have left before the third or fourth watch. Several hours have passed since then; she’s probably already down the mountain by now.”
Luo Rui nodded.
“Are we going to look for her? By the time we get down the mountain, she’ll have already left the city,” asked the girl.
“We still have to find her. We can’t just abandon her like this,” Luo Rui insisted.
“But how do we look for her?” inquired the girl.
“She was carrying the child,” Luo Rui noted. Guo Yuqing had entrusted Shi Xueqin into her care, and she could not allow anything to happen to her.
The other girl suggested again, “Maybe she really does have a way to stop Longhun.”
“Impossible. Someone like Longhun wouldn’t be swayed by a woman,” Luo Rui said, a touch of anger in her voice.
“Indeed,” agreed the girl.
“Hurry and pack your things. We need to find her and bring her back safely. We can’t let anything happen to her,” Luo Rui dashed into her room to gather her belongings.
Another servant girl lamented, “It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t told her about Longhun’s upcoming battle with the Immortal Demon Realm, she wouldn’t have known.”
“What good does it do to talk about that now? Hurry and get ready,” Luo Rui said, feeling a pang of regret. She should have been more vigilant, but she had not been.
Shi Xueqin knew about Longhun going into battle with the Sacred Spirit Stone against the Immortal Demon Realm; she couldn’t just sit by and do nothing. She had to find Longhun and stop him from continuing down the wrong path. Originally, she did not want to bring the child down the mountain, but after consideration, she felt that with the child, she might have a better chance of persuading Longhun.
She was not sure, but she had to try her best. First, she needed to find Longhun, and then she could think of a way to stop him.
Perhaps Longhun would change for her and the child.
Regret began to set in again, regret for having rescued Longhun in the first place. If she hadn’t been so easily persuaded and hadn’t helped Meng Xiuluo and the others rescue Longhun, none of this would have happened.
She felt that all this was her own doing, that she was responsible for everything that had happened.
She had to make amends for the mistakes she had made.
After walking around the streets, she prepared some food and necessities for the road and looked for a coachman. She hired a horse car, intending to head to the battle site.
The coachman was a bit fearful and said, “The Dragon Slaying Clan and the Immortal Demon Realm will be battling there in two days. Miss, you’d better not go there.”
“No, I must go. Get me as close as you can, and all this silver is yours,” she insisted.
The coachman was hesitant to make the journey at first, but upon seeing the substantial amount of silver, he mustered more courage and said, “Well then, miss, hold on tight.”
