Chapter 1395: Chapter 1381: Trouble Brewing Chapter 1395: Chapter 1381: Trouble Brewing “Do you know why they call you Flounder?” Ye Chen leaned in and said, “It wasn’t me who first called you that, it was the innkeeper. Your eyes are quite close to each other, a bit like you have a squint, just like the eyes of a flounder. That’s why you’re called Flounder. But those eyes of yours are actually quite beautiful.”
“You’re the one with squinty eyes.” A teacup flew from Meng Xiuluo’s hand, smashing to the ground with a clatter.
“Although a lot of unpleasant things have happened, I hope you don’t take them to heart. You should hurry up and find someone, but don’t you dare set your sights on that Barbarian; he deserves to be single for the rest of his life.”
Upon hearing the sound of the shattered cup, Guo Yuyun rushed in.
“I’m leaving, I still want to have a meal of roast goose,” Ye Chen said.
“I think you’re already full without eating,” Guo Yuyun said.
Shouting could be heard from the shoreline.
“They should let us go,” Ye Chen murmured as he looked at the approaching dock.
“Why don’t you stay on the ship then, and I’ll leave on my own?”
“How could I possibly leave you behind?”
“It seems to me you’d love to throw me overboard. If I wasn’t here, would you plan to rush into things with Flounder?”
“Of course not, how could I rush into things with her? You really are joking.”
Someone had already thrown the ropes that linked the ships towards the dock, and people on the dock had caught them.
At that moment, the Barbarian appeared at the other end of the corridor, looking furious.
Guo Yuyun immediately went on alert and said, “Don’t come any closer, or I’ll rush in and stab her before I leave,” brandishing a knife.
The Barbarian did not come any closer.
Guo Yuyun flaunted her knife, though it indeed didn’t look too good.
Ye Chen worried she might accidentally give herself a cut on the face, which would be a disaster.
“Back off, watch out for the knife—it’s blind.” The knife was like a venomous snake, seemingly ready to strike at any moment.
The Barbarian waved his hand, signaling to retreat.
Suddenly, Guo Yuyun stepped onto the railing. Ye Chen wondered if she was planning to jump into the sea. With a leap, she soared, gliding over the water like a dragonfly skimming the surface, and landed on the dock like a hen reaching the shore.
Ye Chen really worried she’d turn into a drenched chicken, but she made it. It seemed that confidence was indeed important.
Guo Yuyun shouted, “Monkey, you’re not coming down?”
Seeing that she had safely landed, Ye Chen followed suit with the same move, jumping straight from the ship onto the dock.
The folks on the ship were still dazed.
The shorter one yelled, “You two, don’t run away!”
Guo Yuyun called back, “Fly if you dare, I’ll turn you into a soaked chicken with one kick.”
She stood on the dock like an eagle spreading its wings, and the shorter one didn’t dare to follow.
The Barbarian rushed into the room, of course, to release Flounder who had been caged for several days.
Ye Chen shouted, “Stop waving that little knife around; it’d be funny if you accidentally stabbed your own face.” Grabbing Guo Yuyun, he ran directly into the crowd on the dock, which was quite crowded at the time.
Meng Xiuluo was let out of the cage, and the Barbarian jumped out asking, “Where are those two?”
“They’ve already landed.”
“We must catch those two and bring them back.”
Meng Xiuluo shouted, “Stop acting like a child, will you? Hurry up and find out what has happened on the barren island during the two months we’ve been gone, and how the people of our Dragon Slaying Clan are doing now.” She stretched lazily. Catching those two was going to be tough; the most important thing now was to get news about the Dragon Slaying Clan.
The Barbarian finally had an epiphany and said, “I’ll send someone to inquire right away.”
“Who knows who’s in charge of the 108 islands now, you find that out first, no need to rush.” If it was Ling Li and the others in charge, they had to be more cautious; what was needed now was calm.
“Understood, I’m on it.”
“Meet me later at the tallest inn up ahead.”
Ye Chen and Guo Yuyun raced into the bustling streets, occasionally looking back to see if anyone was following. They breathed a sigh of relief and felt somewhat at ease when they confirmed no one was in pursuit.
They found an inn that was rather secluded and unimposing.
Drenched in sweat, they climbed to the second floor and found a spot near the window with a broad view. From there, they could see the pedestrians coming and going on the street below. As soon as those guys’ people walked by, they would be able to see them from the second floor.
From here, they could even keep an eye on places far away.
Smacking the table, Guo Yuyun called out, “Hey, waiter, bring the dishes quickly.”
A waiter came and listed several of the inn’s famous dishes which, judging by their names, were completely indiscernible; one wondered if the fellow was even speaking the same language. Guo Yuyun, getting impatient, asked, “Got any dumplings?” She had seen someone eating dumplings when she came in.
“Yes.”
“Two dishes, and one roast goose, also a sweet and sour carp. And whatever good old hen soup you have, bring us one of those too.” They quickly sent the waiter, who was speaking nonsense, away.
Ye Chen said, “He shouldn’t come to catch us now, should he!”
“You’d probably like it if she came to catch you and take you back for a chat.”
“Joking aside, I’m not a masochist by nature.”
“Hurry up and eat your fill, we’ve got a lot to do,” Guo Yuyun said.
Indeed, there was a lot to do. After spending more than two months on a deserted island, no one knew what had happened. They had to figure out the situation first. Ye Chen shook his head, saying, “I guess everyone thinks we’re dead. No one will keep looking for us.”
Guo Yuyun was sipping tea.
“Yeah, right. Do you think Song Xizhi might also think you’re dead and has gone off to marry someone else?” Ye Chen said.
Guo Yuyun glared at Ye Chen.
Ye Chen mused to himself, “That shouldn’t happen so quickly. If a man moved on that fast, he wouldn’t be worth keeping.”
“I think you’re the one who is likely to move on quickly.”
“No, that wouldn’t happen. Even though I truly am not very reliable, I’m still quite responsible when I handle things. I’d at least pretend to cry a little.”
The roast chicken, sweet and sour carp, and dumplings were served quickly.
Ye Chen said, “I swear, this is definitely not carp. That guy tricked us.”
“How do you know?”
Ye Chen replied, “We’re on the sea, and it’s an island at that. How could there possibly be freshwater carp here?”
“Then why didn’t you say something earlier?”
“I was just really curious to see what he would do if I ordered sweet and sour carp. And he didn’t hesitate at all before going off to get it.”
“So, are you still going to eat it?”
“Of course I am. We still need to get ourselves a boat.”
“Get a boat? Do you even know how to pilot one?”
“No, I don’t. But if we want to get back to the Central Plains, we need to get a boat,” Ye Chen continued to muse to himself. “Those guys must be sure we’re dead by now.”
Guo Yuyun tore off a leg from the roast duck and took a big bite. He mused about the situation in the Demon Palace, wondering if Longhun had been defeated, that would be terrible. He was eager to return to the Demon Palace City right now.
It felt like they had been on the island for years, which seemed longer than any other time.
“That girl probably isn’t as petty as you,” Ye Chen murmured.
“What? Are you calling me petty?”
“No, I’m not.”
“I think that’s exactly what you think, blaming me for not being as magnanimous as you imagined, right?”
“Not at all. I’m just worried. After all, like a dog, she’s been locked up for so many days, and she’s such a fiery person.”
“You should be thrown into the sea to feed the sharks.”
“The sharks won’t miss my bit of flesh,” Ye Chen continued. “Let’s eat quickly. After eating, I want to take a bath. It’s been so uncomfortable not being able to bathe at sea. I need to change out of these clothes and put on my handsomest outfit.”
Guo Yuyun looked at him disdainfully and said, “Even if you wore an emperor’s robe, you wouldn’t look like a prince.”
“This shouldn’t be their territory.” Ye Chen glanced around to make sure there was nothing suspicious before he finally let out a sigh of relief.
They had finally escaped from that accursed Dark Sea Territory, it was like a nightmare.
“You no longer have to worry about staying on Monster Island to keep the monsters company,” Ye Chen murmured.
It seemed like the small island had a good culture and climate. The streets were bustling with folks coming and going.
After eating, they left the inn and started gathering information from all around. But they were quickly rendered speechless, unable to believe that so much had happened in just over a month. In three days, the Dragon Slaying Clan was set to have a major showdown with the forces from the Demon Domain.
Ye Chen had not expected that the showdown had not yet begun, but it was already scheduled for three days later. Even if they had wings, they wouldn’t be able to fly back so quickly from here.
They asked around to see if there were any ships heading back to the Central Plains from there, but this wasn’t a large island and there were no ships headed to the Central Plains. They would need to switch to another island. According to the boatmen, there should be ships heading to the Central Plains from Stone Gate Island, so they had to first make their way to Stone Gate Island.
“With the big showdown in three days, we still can’t make it back in time,” Ye Chen muttered.
After pondering for a while, Guo Yuyun said, “If Su Zhanze dared to accept the Battle Letter and have a final battle with Longhun, it means he must be somewhat confident.”
Ye Chen laughed upon hearing this, “Your words could also be interpreted the other way. If Longhun didn’t have confidence in defeating Su Zhanze, he wouldn’t have issued such a Battle Letter either.”
Guo Yuyun mused, “You’ve controlled the Sacred Spirit Stone, and you’ve also competed with Su Zhanze who had the Dragon Slayer Sword. Who do you think has a better chance of winning?”
Ye Chen sighed, “That’s hard to say. Although I’ve studied the Sacred Spirit Stone, I haven’t studied it as long as Longhun. He’d been researching it for at least a month longer than me. Moreover, when I was dealing with Qiandu Xiang, I didn’t unleash the true power of the Sacred Spirit Stone, but it already went out of control.”
