Chapter 1351 - 1351 1337 Enemies on a Narrow Road
Chapter 1351: Chapter 1337: Enemies on a Narrow Road Chapter 1351: Chapter 1337: Enemies on a Narrow Road “That girl won’t make things difficult for you, she only hates me.” Ye Chen’s belly, embarrassingly enough, was growling in protest.
“But I can’t trust that girl either, who knows when she might capture me and use me to blackmail Demon Palace City.” Guo Yuyun called out.
Ye Chen patted his stomach and said, “Really now, showing me no respect at all.”
Guo Yuyun laughed and said, “Shall I leave, or should I get you something to eat first?”
The girl shouldn’t have drawn any attention, and he said, “Fine, just nab me a grilled chicken or something.”
“I don’t have any silver taels left though, a couple of Grilled Sesame Seed Cakes might be possible.”
Ye Chen felt around in his clothing and said, “I’ve got a few coins here.” He handed over his remaining silver taels to her, she took them, and Ye Chen instructed, “Make sure you hurry, that ship will set sail in half an hour.”
Guo Yuyun left, crossing the streets where shadows of people searching for that monkey were everywhere, indistinguishable from whether they were from Demon Clan or Zang Di’s folks.
Soon enough, Guo Yuyun came back with something to eat. Ye Chen wolfed down the Grilled Sesame Seed Cake hungrily, and tucked the wrapped roasted chicken back into his chest.
“You were saying something about a ship leaving.”
“Don’t worry about it, just go. You can either leave, or you could stay in a local inn for a few days. I trust that within two or three days, people from the Thirty-Six Islands will come to Slaughter Island. When they do, you can just leave with them,” Ye Chen said.
“What, you’re telling me to go find them?”
“Of course, the entire city is looking for me now, I need to leave urgently. Tonight I must go; I have already arranged for a ship that will leave in half an hour.” Ye Chen was sure that the ship had already been searched once and probably wouldn’t be searched again. The first thing to do was to find a way to get onboard, then figure out how to leave Slaughter Island with the ship.
“So you’re planning to leave me behind.”
After scarfing down a Grilled Sesame Seed Cake, Ye Chen gulped down some water and said, “I don’t want to put you in danger. If I don’t leave tonight, they will capture me for sure tomorrow. But you are different; they won’t be after you, nor do they know who you are. So all you have to do is find an inn, stay there calmly for three days, and surely the people from the Thirty-Six Islands will come. Then you can leave with them.”
He didn’t want to put her in danger, and Guo Yuyun felt slightly better upon hearing this. She asked, “You’re talking about the ship near the front there, the one you plan to board?”
“Right.”
“How are you going to board it?”
“Don’t worry about that. Hurry up and leave. If others discover that I’m with you, they might capture both of us. You’ve only just managed to escape death.”
“Stop treating me like I’m a burden all the time, okay? I’m not a vase, I can help you.”
Ye Chen was astonished and said, “You really don’t understand the gravity of the situation, don’t understand how dangerous it is for me. Others would avoid it if they could, yet here you are, eager to cozy up to me.”
“Who cozied up… I have a way that can help you safely get to that ship at the docks. Do you want to hear it out?”
Ye Chen looked at her, skeptical and somewhat incredulous.
“I’ll cause a distraction over there. The people at the docks will surely take notice, and you can use that opportunity to slip past the docks straight to that ship.”
That was indeed a good plan; Ye Chen didn’t say anything, but it seemed workable.
“So you’ll create the distraction, and once I’m aboard, you find an inn to stay in. Wait until people from the Thirty-Six Islands come. They will surely soon learn that the Dragon Slaying Clan is on Slaughter Island. Then you can leave with them,” he said.
“I’m not going to do that,” Guo Yuyun continued, “I want to follow you. You must agree, we’ll leave together. If you don’t agree, wait to be captured tomorrow.”
“Why must you do this?”
Guo Yuyun turned her head away, with a somewhat coquettish demeanor.
“I’m thinking of you, for your own good, as you know.”
“But I’ve never truly felt that you have my best interests at heart.”
“What do you mean? Right now I don’t even know where I’m going next, where I’ll find a place to stay.”
It was a struggle for her to find him again. To think she’d let him slip away, he must be dreaming.
“You really have a plan?” Ye Chen asked.
“Only if you promise to let me come with you.”
Time was slipping by, and without action, the ship would soon depart. He absolutely had to be on that ship. Guo Yuyun was right—if he didn’t create a diversion to draw attention, the chances of boarding that ship unnoticed were nil. He said, “Alright.” Truth be told, he still wasn’t quite at ease leaving her alone on Slaughter Island. If by chance she got recognized by Zang Di’s people, that would be terrible. She had been captured once; who could guarantee she wouldn’t be recognized and taken a second time?
There was a disturbance over there, and the roar of a giant beast was heard, along with news that the Wolf King’s Ring had been stolen. Who had stolen it was not mentioned, but it immediately caught the attention of those in search of it.
Ye Chen knew for sure that Guo Yuyun was behind it. He grabbed a piece of black cloth and wrapped it tightly around his head.
From the south side of the harbor came a loud explosion, clearly much louder than the disturbance. Could this also be the work of Guo Yuyun? She shouldn’t have the ability to do something like that on her own.
Some said the Wolf King’s Ring was in Zang Di’s hands, some claimed it was with the Scorpion Witch. Who knew which was true? Ye Chen didn’t care about who was spreading rumors, but he was certain that it wasn’t a one-person job. At this moment, what Ye Chen needed was to leave quickly.
He took advantage of the fact that everyone was heading towards the commotion. Wearing a straw hat that made him look like a man in his sixties or seventies, he donned ragged clothing and limped towards the dock, leaning on a cane.
It wasn’t long before that girl caught up with him, standing by his side.
“You really look like an old man.”
“Did you blow up the docks?”
“I don’t have that kind of power.”
“Then who did it?”
“How would I know?”
“Hey, you’d better go now, get on the boat quickly, and don’t attract attention.”
“Okay, you be careful not to knock out your front teeth. No one’s going to be there to fix them for you if that happens.” Yu Yun ran ahead, blushing.
Ye Chen continued to make his way across the long pier, occasionally picking up his pace.
Fortunately, at that time, no one was paying much attention to the dock. The strategy had worked somehow, and it had indeed succeeded inexplicably, but Ye Chen believed the truth would soon reveal itself.
It was a civilian boat, and he didn’t care where it would take him; what mattered most was leaving Slaughter Island.
Guo Yuyun boarded the boat first, but Ye Chen soon realized something was amiss because he saw a familiar figure on the deck. Damn it, how could it be possible? Why was the girl on this very boat? That shouldn’t have been the case; they should have had their own vessel, especially since this was a civilian ship. He was certain that the ship Yu Yun had chosen was on the south side of the dock.
The boatmen on the bow were shouting, “Hurry up and come aboard, or we’ll set sail!”
What to do? Retreat and find another boat? Impossible. What in the world was going on? Zang Di and the Scorpion Witch would soon figure things out and everything would return to normal. He needed to go back to the city, but definitely couldn’t; once found, Yun’er had already boarded the ship, and people from the Demon Clan and Zang Di were weaving in and out. This was his only chance to leave; there were no other boats.
Meng Xiuluo was waving to him; the ship was full of people from the Dragon Slaying Clan. With doubt, Ye Chen glanced around and then noticed those familiar faces—it was them, the members of the Dragon Slaying Clan. Though they were disguised as boatmen, he recognized those people.
The shouts from behind were getting closer.
“Monkey, what are you doing? Are you waiting to get caught?”
Meng Xiuluo wore a smug expression; it was clear that everything was going as she had planned.
Ye Chen understood then. The commotion at the dock was her doing. Who else but her? Of course, he had noticed the Dragon Slaying Clan members preparing at the southern dock that morning and thought the Dragon Slaying Clan would leave from there, seemingly deceiving the Demon Clan just as they had deceived him.
During the negotiation that morning with the Demon Clan, they had mentioned finding a way to prevent their escape. No, the Demon Clan had assumed he and the girl were together; therefore, they believed he would definitely be with her, looking for her and the members of the Dragon Slaying Clan. Right, he had also heard people shouting about looking for the Dragon Slaying Clan members.
With no other options left, all he could do was board. He couldn’t just leave Yun’er behind. Although that girl on board, who called him cheap goods, was pretty bad, she was probably kinder than those from the Demon Clan—at least they had worked together once, and she owed him a life debt. She wouldn’t be so heartless. If he were caught by the white-haired one or that beastly fellow, he would surely be played to death.
After such analysis, the answer became obvious.
The people over there were shouting as if trying to prevent the boat from leaving. If they weren’t from the Demon Clan, then they were certainly Zang Di’s men.
“What daydreaming are you doing?” Guo Yuyun wanted to run back down.
Ye Chen couldn’t let her run back down. Turning three steps into two, he already rushed onto the pirate ship.
Immediately following that, the dock exploded once again.
This girl was no simple character; every time she left somewhere, it was as if she needed to set off some fireworks for fun. This had become her style; it would be strange if she didn’t light up a few big thunderclaps.
In fact, following them might not have been such a bad idea. If it had been a civilian ship, it would have been easily stopped. Even if they got a mile or two away, they would have been forcefully brought back and he would have been fished out of the ship again.
The blame laid on the fact that Slaughter Island was too small, or perhaps, he was fated to be with that crazy girl.
“What are you doing? Thinking of leaving me behind and staying alone with the Island Master?”
However, Guo Yuyun quickly came to understand why Ye Chen had hesitated before, because another girl with a malicious smile was approaching. It seemed fate kept bringing adversaries together.
