Chapter 1308 - 1308 1294 Action
Chapter 1308: Chapter 1294: Action Chapter 1308: Chapter 1294: Action Ye Chen and his companions had already reached the area of the one hundred and eight islands, and had been sailing for five or six days, having nearly consumed all the supplies on board. They needed to find an island to replenish their fresh water and food supplies.
At this time, they still hadn’t rendezvoused with Nangong Yao or Wan Liyun, nor had they received any news of the Dragon Slaying Clan and the Immortal City Sect.
A large island appeared ahead, looking like a lotus leaf from afar, hence its name, Lotus Leaf Island. It was a little distance away, but they planned to approach Lotus Leaf Island for resupply and to also inquire about any updates.
The Black Demonic Spirit had grown impatient long ago. This time, without bringing Ah Ya with him, no one was there to chat with him when he felt lonely. Naturally, he was the most restless and complained, “I finally understand what’s meant by ‘headless flies.’ That’s probably us.”
Ouyang Yue knew exactly what was on this guy’s mind. He was definitely blaming her for not letting him bring Ah Ya along. Considering the danger, this was not a family visit, and they could encounter danger at any time; she was not going to make things easy for him. Watching them getting all lovey-dovey was out of the question. She said, “Stop your whining. Do you think I don’t want to find them as soon as possible? I think you’re just feeling empty and lonely.”
“I meant to say, your methods aren’t working. Shouldn’t we be considering a better approach?” the Black Demonic Spirit barked.
“Then give me a suggestion. What approach do you think would be best?”
“How would I know? But I’m certain this method isn’t working.”
“You talk as if you’ve said nothing.” Ouyang Yue called out to the people behind her, “Alright, I know everyone is having a tough time, but there’s no helping it. We can rest on Lotus Leaf Island tonight, resupply what we need, and see if we can learn anything new.”
“It won’t be so easy to get news on a non-descript island.”
“Then what do you propose? If you’d rather stay on the ship, we certainly won’t object to that.” Ouyang was actually very anxious herself; she wanted to find the Dragon Clan members, and later, following Ye Chen’s suggestion, to look for the Immortal City Sect, because they knew the Immortal City Sect would definitely be searching for the Dragon Slaying Clan as well. Finding the Immortal City Sect might lead to finding the Dragon Slaying Clan by extension.
The Immortal City Sect, having partnered with Ling Li, was naturally more familiar with the one hundred and eight islands, so they were likely the ones to find the Dragon Slaying Clan first.
Ouyang Yue ignored the Black Demonic Spirit and walked towards Yun’er in the distance, saying, “Yun’er, we’re getting ready to land on the island.”
“There won’t be any danger, right?” After all, this was not their territory.
Hearing this, Ouyang Yue replied, “Don’t worry, we’ve done our research very thoroughly. Though it isn’t within our domain, there is still exchange between our thirty-six islands and the one hundred and eight islands. Of course, we have learned about Lotus Leaf Island before daring to dock here.” She decisively moved forward, waking up the disheartened bunch to prepare them for landing.
Ye Chen was quieter than ever during these days; he certainly hadn’t been idle. Whenever he had time, he resorted to acupuncture for himself. He had no choice but to do so, as he could lose his mind at any time. The needling remained essential, and he had to spend time practicing and meditating to stabilize the true qi in his body and to prevent magic power from finding an opportunity.
He also knew that these were only temporary solutions. To eradicate the magic power and not be controlled by the Wolf King’s Ring’s magic power, he would need to find other ways.
Guo Yuyun was still very conflicted. Ye Chen had made everything clear to her, but she just couldn’t let go. How could she leave like that? Yet, what was she doing by staying here? Although she wanted to help Ye Chen, she couldn’t. She could only indulge in wishful thinking, and the presence of Song Xizhi only made her more conflicted.
Although Song Xizhi said that he would not coerce her, dragging him along made her uncomfortable because she knew she couldn’t forget or move on. To say she would gradually forget and walk away was merely self-deception; it was not as easy as she thought. Her feelings for Ye Chen were not fading but growing stronger, and she knew this very well. The more she forced herself not to think about him, the more she was actually reminding herself to do so.
If she were alone, no matter the hardship, it would just be her own issue, and she could accept that. But now, she was delaying someone else’s life, Song Xizhi.
She should have a candid talk with him and tell him her true feelings. Anyway, she couldn’t continue like this; otherwise, she might go crazy.
After they landed, it was dusk, with some time left before darkness fell.
Ouyang Yue left matters to Li Mo and the Red Demonic Spirit, then took Guo Yuyun into the town.
“Wow, this island is quite large,” Ouyang Yue exclaimed. From afar, it seemed like a barren place, but once on the island, it didn’t feel so desolate.
The Black Demonic Spirit was also surprised, observing the bustling dock; it seemed he had other ideas in mind.
“We’ll have dinner at the inn ahead,” Ouyang Yue proposed.
The Black Demonic Spirit shook his head, saying, “You go on without me. I don’t want to fill my stomach in such a stifling atmosphere.” His words were clearly laden with hidden meanings.
“What do you mean by ‘stifling atmosphere’?” Ouyang Yue retorted.
“Isn’t it suffocating to have meals with you?”
“I think it’s you who feels suffocated!”
“Even if it’s just me, I’ve decided to take a good look around.” He seemed to have developed an interest in the island.
“You’re not thinking of going off to indulge in pleasures now that no one’s watching you, are you?”
Quickly turning around, the Black Demonic Spirit protested, “How could I possibly do that now?”
“It seems to me you’ve finally found the opportunity. Now that you’re unsupervised, you think you can do whatever you want.”
The Black Demonic Spirit quickly replied, “I’ve decided it’s time for a clean slate, to become a good person.”
“You will only gain trust with your lies when Ah Ya becomes gullible. I’ll never believe your nonsense,” Ye Chen said.
“Hey, I honestly find having meals with you all extremely boring, especially since you all come in pairs. I don’t want to be a third wheel,” Guo Yuyun complained.
“A third wheel? I think you’re just full of tricks,” Ye Chen retorted.
“Then why don’t you have someone follow me?” Guo Yuyun suggested.
“They’ll just conspire with you to deceive me. You think I don’t know you?” Ye Chen said with skepticism.
“So what now? I have to stick with you, which you’ll find utterly unpleasant?” Guo Yuyun asked.
Ouyang Yue indeed found him unpleasant to look at and shouted, “Just get lost already.”
Black Demonic Spirit looked at Ouyang Yue and said, “You wouldn’t go talking behind my back to Ah Ya, would you?”
Ouyang Yue let out a cold laugh.
Black Demonic Spirit told his two underlings, “You two, follow me. Remember, keep your eyes on me, and if I show any ill behavior, report it to Yue’er.”
“Stop putting on a show. Those guys have already been bribed by you with money, in case you thought I wouldn’t know,” Ouyang Yue snorted and stopped paying attention to Black Demonic Spirit, continuing towards the inn ahead.
Black Demonic Spirit was taken aback and said, “I’m just here to experience the local culture.”
“I’ll just have Ah Ya go with Red Demonic Spirit later,” Ouyang Yue decided.
Black Demonic Spirit wasn’t so easily duped by Ouyang Yue and had already turned with his two subordinates towards the bustling streets. It was a relief to finally reach shore after feeling like they were trapped in a dungeon on the boat for so long, nearly going insane. This was an opportunity he couldn’t miss.
Ouyang Yue glanced at Guo Yuyun and said, “Black Demonic Spirit is full of nonsense; he seems to be the most upset among us. Let’s not let him affect us.”
Black Demonic Spirit felt oppressed, not just because he knew Ye Chen and Ouyang Yue were putting on an act but also because he could see Guo Yuyun’s lingering feelings for Ye Chen. Moreover, Ye Chen had strong feelings for Guo Yuyun but couldn’t bring himself to act on them, and Song Xizhi was caught in an awkward middle ground.
He couldn’t stand it; the feeling was incredibly suffocating.
Ouyang Yue noticed everyone was rather distant, as if their souls had been drained. She was ordering food, but the other three just gave a noncommittal “whatever.” She remarked, “You all don’t seem very enthusiastic.”
Guo Yuyun quickly chimed in, possibly influenced by Black Demonic Spirit’s remarks, “I’ll order a dish too.”
Following the waiter’s recommendations, she quickly made a choice, and the atmosphere quieted down again.
Ye Chen was preoccupied with whether there was another way to find Longhun and if Longhun could have really escaped back to the Central Plains without any news surfacing.
Looking through the large window, Ouyang Yue glanced outside and said, “This place looks quite nice, seems lively.”
Following Ouyang Yue’s gaze, Guo Yuyun gave a slight nod, her mind occupied with how to clear things up with Song Xizhi. She decided to have a proper talk with him that evening, unable to carry on like this anymore, or she would indeed be unable to bear it.
“Monkey, why are you as quiet as a capon? You’re usually so talkative, but today you’re silent,” Ye Chen observed.
Hearing this, Ye Chen turned his head but remained silent.
Soon, the waiter brought up the food they had ordered, which was quite a feast.
However, everyone was clearly preoccupied, partly due to not finding Longhun and clearly other reasons.
“It seems everyone has a lot on their minds,” Ouyang Yue finally couldn’t hold back from saying.
“Not really,” Guo Yuyun responded.
“I think we all need some time to cool off and be quiet,” Ouyang Yue suggested.
“Let’s take a walk by ourselves later,” Guo Yuyun said, glancing at Ye Chen as she spoke.
Ye Chen continued eating without a word.
Song Xizhi still maintained the demeanor of a graceful gentleman, a trait he seemed to be born with.
Dinner time passed quickly.
And the sky darkened without them realizing.
