Chapter 1298 - 1298 1284 Innocent
Chapter 1298: Chapter 1284: Innocent Chapter 1298: Chapter 1284: Innocent Guo Yuyun stood up and said, “Li Mo, where are they? Take me to them.” Song Xizhi also rose to his feet.
Ye Chen asked, “Do you really want to go find him?”
Guo Yuyun turned her head and said, “Otherwise, you try first.”
Ye Chen quickly shook his head and replied, “I better not try,” Su Zhanze’s jealousy was so strong. The matter with Guo Yuqing had already made Su Zhanze detest him thoroughly, and today he had humiliated him in front of everyone. Su Zhanze was certainly wanting to eat his flesh and drink his blood now.
It’s still better not to provoke him. After all, Guo Yuyun is Guo Yuqing’s sister. He could be sure of that, no matter how angry Su Zhanze was, he wouldn’t harm Guo Yuyun.
Guo Yuyun walked forward.
Ye Chen called out, “Li Mo, take good care of Yun’er.”
Song Xizhi followed beside Yun’er, and they soon disappeared into the dense forest.
Before long, Ouyang Yue returned but did not see Guo Yuyun and asked in confusion, “Where’s Yun’er?”
“Li Mo found Su Zhanze, but Su Zhanze refuses to believe. Yun’er went to tell him the truth.”
“You’re not going?”
Ye Chen smiled and said, “It’s better if I don’t go.”
“Right, watch your dog head,” Ouyang Yue took a piece of roast meat, still angry, and said, “Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?”
“I was afraid you wouldn’t believe me, and I was afraid you’d be impulsive.”
“Nonsense, if you had told me the truth, would I not have believed it?”
“Don’t know, but I think you’re too hot-tempered, and with Shao Hengjiang being your father, it probably would take me half a day to convince you, if at all. Better not to try.”
“Then why did you tell Guo Yuyun?”
“Guo Yuyun guessed it on her own. She guessed what I was going to do.”
“Oh, that girl really is quite something.”
“There is something about her. Could the girl I fancy be simple-minded?”
“What does that mean, that you can fancy me only because I’m simple-minded?”
Ye Chen quickly said, “Of course that’s not what I meant.”
“I think that’s exactly what you meant.” Ouyang Yue was still angry that he hadn’t clarified things with her before letting Guo Yuyun deceive her.
It was as though the girl was jealous. Ye Chen dared not speak anymore.
“Aren’t you worried, in a fit of anger, that Su Zhanze might kill that girl?”
“That won’t happen. After all, this matter has nothing to do with her, and there’s no reason for him to hate Guo Yuyun. Besides, Yun’er is still Qing’er’s sister.”
Ouyang Yue reminded him, “Right, the one he should hate is you, for the great humiliation you’ve caused him.”
Ye Chen was surprised and said, “Why do all of you think I was humiliating him? I was clearing his name.”
Ouyang Yue sneered, “That’s not humiliating? You defeated him, humiliated him publicly, then let him go, as if to say, ‘I could crush you like a bug, but I didn’t. I chose to spare you.’ Isn’t that humiliating?”
Ye Chen frowned and said, “Your thoughts are indeed complicated.”
“What does that mean, does Guo Yuyun think the same too?”
Ye Chen continued eating, but he acknowledged what she said.
“It was necessary to make things so worrisome and frightening.”
Ye Chen said, “It’s indeed frustrating. I went to great lengths to have Wan Liyun investigate thoroughly, yet no one wanted to believe me, including you. You didn’t believe me then, either. I really had no other choice but to do this.”
“Right, you were very brave, weren’t you?”
“It’s not exactly like that, but I had no other choice. No one could have foreseen the Red Demonic Spirit coming back. If he hadn’t returned, this was the only way I could prove Su Zhanze’s innocence.”
“Heh, it’s nothing brilliant. Give me a bit of time, and I could have thought of it too,” said Ouyang Yue.
“Of course, with your intelligence, how could you not have thought of it?” Ye Chen said ironically.
Ouyang Yue was unappreciative and said, “To think you let Guo Yuyun knock me out; it’s downright collusion.”
“Hey, who said we’re in cahoots? That’s not how you use that idiom.”
“I like using it this way, what’s it to you?”
“Fine, use it however you want, as long as you’re happy,” Ye Chen said.
Su Zhanze, with injuries, hid in a cave, his men blocking the entrance, ready to go down together with the people of the thirty-six islands. He hadn’t expected to be defeated, and the reason for his loss was that he had exhausted most of his energy fighting the Evil Spirit. Otherwise, killing that boy would have been as easy as crushing a bug.
Li Mo shouted, claiming everything was a misunderstanding, and that they now knew that Longhun from the Dragon Slaying Clan was the culprit. But Su Zhanze didn’t believe their nonsense. They just wanted to lure him out of the cave to kill him; he wouldn’t be fooled so easily.
Su Zhanze called Chen Yu over and ordered, “If they dare to mess around, light the gunpowder and blow them up.”
Chen Yu nodded.
“Don’t worry, once my injuries heal, I’ll fight them again,” Su Zhanze declared.
Healing wasn’t an easy task, and it certainly wouldn’t happen in a day or two. They had enough food for only two or three days. After that, they might starve to death in the cave.
Ling Li found it strange and ran back; why hadn’t the people from the thirty-six islands surrounded them? It was obviously not normal; they should have surrounded them in one fell swoop and eliminated them all together. But they hadn’t done that, which was incomprehensible. Could it be that they really knew that it was Longhun from the Dragon Slaying Clan who caused the incident on Taiping Island?
“What’s going on? Have they surrounded us?” Su Zhanze was ready to die together with the people from the thirty-six islands.
Ling Li replied, “No, they haven’t followed us, they don’t seem to be planning to surround us.”
“Impossible, this must be a plot. They’ve stopped surrounding us because they’re afraid we’ll take them down with us,” said Su Zhanze, full of suspicion.
“Could it be that they really know that Longhun is the culprit behind Taiping Island?” Ling Li suggested.
On hearing this, Su Zhanze exclaimed, “If they knew, then why would they attack us, and with such deadly force?”
Ling Li couldn’t make sense of it either.
“It must be a plot; they want us to lower our guard. Once we’re relaxed enough, they will surely make their move. We can’t fall for their tricks,” Su Zhanze said with a sneer.
Then a messenger rushed in and said, “Guo Yuyun is here.”
Su Zhanze raised his head, unsure of her intentions, and asked, “Is she alone?”
The messenger said, “With Song Xizhi.”
“Let them in,” Su Zhanze called. He wanted to see what Guo Yuyun was up to and if she intended to join the thirty-six islands in deceiving him.
Guo Yuyun entered shortly thereafter.
Su Zhanze was pacing with a pallid face, likely from his wounds.
“The matter has been clarified; it was Longhun from the Dragon Slaying Clan who was responsible for the Taiping Island incident,” Guo Yuyun stated.
Su Zhanze looked at Guo Yuyun, half-convinced, his eyes filled with doubt and suspicion.
Guo Yuyun explained, “Ye Chen defeated you to prove that the Sacred Spirit Stone was not in your possession.” She was aware of Ren Xiongbei and Fang Ziren’s agenda; it could be for revenge or for the position of the Immortal City Sect Leader. She disliked those who would do anything to achieve their aims, but she also believed that if the Taiping Island incident wasn’t Su Zhanze’s doing, it wasn’t right to wrong him.
Su Zhanze was confused and even more puzzled.
Seeing his bewilderment, Guo Yuyun continued, “Ye Chen originally wanted them to properly investigate, but in the thirty-six islands, his word meant nothing, and no one believed him. He had to take a desperate measure, which was to defeat you.
In the end, he did defeat you, but throughout the process, you never produced the Sacred Spirit Stone. If you truly had the Sacred Spirit Stone, in such a critical situation, it would have been impossible for you not to use it against Ye Chen. But you didn’t, which leaves only one possibility: the Sacred Spirit Stone isn’t in your possession. If it’s not with you, then the Taiping Island incident couldn’t have been your work.”
Su Zhanze was at a loss for words.
Ling Li asked, “Do they believe it was Longhun and his people who did it?”
Guo Yuyun looked over and said, “After today’s battle ended, the people Ye Chen sent out returned. They encountered the Dragon Slaying Clan at sea; it was indeed them. It has been confirmed that the whole matter has nothing to do with you.”
Chen Yu said, “Then they won’t be surrounding us anymore.”
“Of course, since it wasn’t your doing, it’s just a misunderstanding. Naturally, we should clear up the misunderstanding, not let it deepen,” Guo Yuyun replied.
“But the people from the thirty-six islands treated us so harshly. Don’t they owe us an explanation? How can it all just be dismissed as a misunderstanding?” Chen Yu said angrily.
Guo Yuyun said, “You really can’t blame the people from the thirty-six islands for this matter, because your arrival was too coincidental. Qin Tuoluo and his men were chasing the ships that escaped from Taiping Island all the way to Paper Kite Island, and you just happened to appear there. Coming from the Central Plains to the thirty-six islands, there’s only one possibility: you were after the Sacred Spirit Stone. At that moment, while they were suspicious of you, you showed up.”
Su Zhanze, puzzled, asked, “Are you saying that some ships lured the people from the thirty-six islands over?”
“Yes, it was two ships that escaped from Taiping Island and led them here. So, you shouldn’t blame them. Longhun was too cunning, making it seem like it was your doing, which led to such a great misunderstanding.”
Guo Yuyun continued, “And don’t hold a grudge against Ye Chen. He couldn’t convince the others and had no choice but to act this way. He did his best to avoid greater casualties; otherwise, more would have died.”
