Chapter 1241 - 1241 1227 Words Against Ones Will
Chapter 1241: Chapter 1227: Words Against One’s Will Chapter 1241: Chapter 1227: Words Against One’s Will Ye Chen wanted Guo Yuyun to go back. He knew that it might be a bit hasty, but to avoid the prolonged nightmares, if the girl Ouyang Yue really couldn’t take it anymore and spilled the truth, the consequences would be unimaginable.
He could imagine that if Guo Yuyun knew that there was nothing between him and Ouyang Yue, she would never leave, certainly staying. She and Song Xizhi hadn’t wed yet. By then, getting her to leave would be almost harder than ascending to the heavens. With Guo Yuyun’s character, she would definitely stay by his side, never abandoning him.
He didn’t want that, although he wished for it in his heart. If something were to happen to him, even if it did not harm Yun’er, Song Xizhi would choose to leave. Then, who would accompany this lass in the future? He simply couldn’t do that.
Through careful observation, the lad Song Xizhi was indeed not bad. She had run away from the marriage, and he didn’t even get angry. Instead, he followed Yun’er like a guardian deity, worried that she might encounter danger. Moreover, he had learned from the Black Demonic Spirit that they had once overheard a conversation between the two.
The lad Song Xizhi told Yun’er that he would wait to leave until after she and he were together. Hearing this, Ye Chen was almost moved as well. What a foolish lad to do such a thing. Anyway, Ye Chen couldn’t do it.
Therefore, he still felt very at ease and intentionally facilitated their relationship. However, he had to find a way to cut off all the lass’s thoughts and force her to leave.
It had just gotten dark.
It was very quiet around. There were only three people in the courtyard—Ye Chen and Ah Ya, talking to Ouyang Yue.
They didn’t notice that someone had quietly come in—Guo Yuyun herself, and she was alone without Song Xizhi in sight.
“Yun’er is here. Hurry over for some tea.” Ouyang Yue stood up, making room for her.
Guo Yuyun’s face was expressionless, revealing neither joy nor sorrow.
After exchanging greetings, Ouyang Yue knew that Ye Chen and she should have a proper talk. They hadn’t had the chance, so she nudged Ah Ya, and the two of them found an excuse to leave.
She also nudged Ye Chen, signaling him to have a good chat.
Soon only Ye Chen and Guo Yuyun were left in the pavilion.
Ye Chen was also nervous, afraid that she would throw herself at him, declaring her wish to marry him, regardless of whether as his wife or concubine. What could he say to dissuade her, and would he be able to resist? That was a difficult question.
He quickly poured a cup of tea for both himself and her to ease his nerves.
Looking at the lass’s worried face, Ye Chen felt very guilty, but he knew what he was doing.
Suddenly, he said, “That young man is very good, he loves you.”
Guo Yuyun looked at Ye Chen and just nodded slightly, without saying a word.
“Really, if it were anyone else, they would’ve abandoned you by now. But he is worried something might happen to you. Even if you did something as outrageous as running away from the marriage, he never left your side. You can see how much he likes you. You should cherish that. As for us, we’re destined to meet but not destined to be together. Of course, it’s my fault.”
Guo Yuyun also picked up her tea. What more was there to say now? It seemed there was nothing left to discuss. She believed the story of Ye Chen and Ouyang Yue.
“Live well, I will be pleased for you. Even if we can’t be lovers, you are still my dearest sister, and you always will be.”
But Guo Yuyun didn’t want to be a sister; she couldn’t accept it in her heart.
“You won’t blame me for keeping the truth from you, will you?” Ye Chen asked.
“Of course I blame you. Why wouldn’t I blame you?” Guo Yuyun understood why Ye Chen had to do it at the time, but she would’ve preferred he hadn’t, even if it meant dying, she wanted to spend her life by his side.
“Then all I can do is say sorry. I’m not as good as you think, just an annoying fellow.”
Guo Yuyun snorted coldly and continued to drink her tea.
“Alright, now you know my situation. Just as it is now, so go back. Don’t worry your family.”
However, Guo Yuyun became a bit angry and said, “Why are you so eager to have me leave?”
“It’s not that I’m eager. Of course, I hope you could stay a bit longer. But there is so much going on. We’ve captured the Moon Beast and now have to deal with the local bullies.”
“Then deal with it. I won’t get in your way.”
Ye Chen quickly explained, “It’s for your own good. Haven’t you run away from your marriage? Now you know my situation too, and it’s not bad. I already have someone, so you can rest easy. I think you should hurry back, admit your mistake to them, and I believe they will forgive you. Hurry up and make up for the wedding ceremony, and don’t make them worry about you.”
Guo Yuyun replied coldly, “Mind your own business.”
“You wouldn’t be planning to force Ouyang Yue to leave me so you can start over with me, would you? That’s impossible, after all that has happened. Maybe she’s pregnant by now. You cannot do that.”
Guo Yuyun glared at Ye Chen.
Ye Chen continued, “Truthfully, that lad is terrific. If I were you, I would marry him without a second thought. Think about how excessive your actions have been. He didn’t say a thing but still came to protect you, fearing you might be in danger. He must love you so much to be that foolish. If I were him, I would have said goodbye to you a long time ago. You’ve shamed him by running away; what dignity is left to speak of? But he didn’t hold that against you, all because he likes you. If you don’t marry a man like that, you might come to regret it when it’s too late. There are all sorts of medicines in this world, but no medicine for regret. If you truly hurt him and he finds someone else later, you won’t even have the chance to regret it.”
Guo Yuyun’s nose was stifled.
“Ah, I owe you an apology for this matter. Hurry back home. We can still be friends, and I would acknowledge you as a sister. Once things settle down here, when the spring flowers bloom, I will come back to see you.”
“I don’t fancy it at all,” Guo Yuyun said, looking down as she fiddled with the jade in her hand.
“You won’t hate me just because of this, will you?”
Guo Yuyun looked up and responded, “If I don’t hate you, who else would I hate?” She started peeling an orange, but clearly her heart wasn’t in it; the orange ended up looking as if it had been mauled by a dog.
“What’s the point of this? It’s self-inflicted. You should’ve tried to do better than me. That would’ve been impressive. Hating someone is just tormenting yourself, because there’s no benefit to you. All you get is misery and unhappiness. If that’s not self-torture, what is it!”
Ye Chen continued, “I’m really not as good as that Song Xizhi, you see. I don’t even look like a prince when I wear the dragon robe, I often go days without bathing, and I have a temper and a wandering heart. You absolutely have no reason to waste your thoughts on someone like me. Most importantly, I’ve already found the person I want to spend my life with. We’re not fated to be together. Stop tormenting yourself.”
Ye Chen talked round in circles, and in this way, the entire morning passed without him knowing if his bluster had any effect. But that was all he could say, and he hoped the girl would come to her senses.
It was clear that the girl wasn’t conceding.
Before they knew it, noon had arrived.
Ye Chen said, “No more talking, otherwise, it’s just nagging. You’re a smart person, you should understand. In three days, a ship will leave Sacred Spirit Island and head back to the Central Plains. You should go back with Song Xizhi and the others when that time comes.”
Guo Yuyun became anxious and exclaimed, “Who said I’m going back?” Her face showed outright defiance.
Ye Chen then asked, “Can you tell me how long you’re planning to stay here? Surely you’re not planning to stay here forever without ever going back, are you?”
“That’s my business.”
“What are you getting out of staying here? You wanted to know about my situation, and now you know. Staying here to be tormented by me isn’t better than going back home, right?”
Ye Chen continued, “Listen to me, go back. Apologize to your mother and Song Xizhi’s father. Have your wedding again, and don’t let Song Xizhi get away.”
Ouyang Yue came in with food and called out, “You two, how’s the negotiation going? Shouldn’t you take a break and have a proper rest? Let’s all have lunch together and then continue talking slowly.”
Ye Chen stood up and went over to help them.
Ouyang Yue asked with concern, “You didn’t upset her, did you?”
“How could I? Why would I upset her? I couldn’t bear to!”
Ouyang Yue knew all too well his tricks. He did like Guo Yuyun, but he was very rational, knowing he needed to give her a bit of a stir to persuade her.
“I came, and I brought a lot of good food.”
Ouyang Yue put down the food and told Ah Ya, “Ah Ya, go call Song Xizhi and the others to come for lunch.”
“Okay,” Ah Ya responded and left.
Guo Yuyun was still sitting there, stunned.
Yun’er had just stood up when Song Xizhi and the others arrived.
The lunch proceeded in a rather somber atmosphere, and not long after it ended, Guo Yuyun left.
As Ah Ya cleared away the dishes, Guo Yuyun’s departure left Ye Chen in silence, as if he suddenly didn’t feel like talking anymore, which even made Ouyang Yue wonder, asking, “What’s wrong, you’ve suddenly become so downcast?”
How could he not be downcast? He had spoken so many insincere words, none of which came from his heart; they were barely different from nonsense. He had never wished to be with Yun’er more, but he knew he couldn’t be. How could she do such a thing? He had barely found an excuse, and he should’ve been thinking more of that girl’s future.
“You were quite enthusiastic when you were provoking her just now, why the sudden loss of spirit? Do you feel guilty?” Ouyang Yue asked.
“Can you let me have some peace?”
“I think this is what really counts as self-torture.”
“Sigh, I’ve been talking all morning, and my head is especially messy.”
“So, did you get through to her?”
“I don’t know. I said what I had to say; I laid it all out.”
“That girl really likes you.”
“I’m warning you, you have to hold on for a few days for me, just a few days while I figure this out.”
“Heh, what if she just refuses to leave? What will you do?”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. No matter how agonizing, you must bear it. And that’s non-negotiable.” At that moment, Ye Chen couldn’t afford to lose his rationality.
