Chapter 1154 - 1154 1140 The Mole

Chapter 1154: Chapter 1140: The Mole Chapter 1154: Chapter 1140: The Mole Energy surged from Ye Chen’s palms, flowing into the Crystal Beast like a stream of water, similar to a magician casting spells. Multicolored energies converged from all around and merged into the Crystal Beast.

Ouyang Yue hesitated. If they failed to find the inner traitor, they would be unable to regroup. Yet if Qiandu Xiang believed that the Sacred Spirit Stone was with her or Nangong Yao, he would definitely try to deal with them next, meaning danger could strike at any moment. If they didn’t meet up with Shao Hengjiang and the others, how would they face Qiandu Xiang together in the future? Simply put, without uncovering the traitor, there would be no peace.

As long as the traitor was present, danger remained, ready to strike again at any moment.

Ye Chen had spent half an hour casting his spell, and upon finishing, he sighed. He could sense the severity of the Phoenix Monster’s injuries. Regrettably, without the Sacred Spirit Stone and its power, healing would take much longer. It seemed he would have to take it slow.

When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to find that the girl had not left yet. He felt unexpectedly pleased and teased, “Girl, do you really plan not to go back? Are you going to stay and accompany me tonight? I am feeling a bit lonely and cold, and I need a beauty to warm up my bed.”

“Stop talking nonsense. Are you done with your spell casting? I want to discuss some serious matters with you.”

Ye Chen shook his head and replied, “My martial arts skills are still lacking. If I had the Sacred Spirit Stone, I could make it recover quickly.”

“If you could help me find the traitor, why would you need to worry about getting help from the Sacred Spirit Stone?”

“No need for that. Although it’s slow, I will adjust its energy every day. I believe it will gradually get better,” Ye Chen firmly believed.

“Monkey, listen to my analysis and see if I’m right,” Ouyang Yue said with folded arms, pacing with apparent importance.

Ye Chen poured himself a glass of water, gulped it down, and after tucking the Crystal Beast into his embrace, he looked at the girl’s serious demeanor and nodded, “Okay, go ahead and analyze.”

Ouyang Yue said, “Based on today’s events, Qiandu Xiang believes that the Sacred Spirit Stone is in the hands of either me or my martial uncle.”

“That’s correct, it’s only temporary, but soon they might start plotting to verify if it’s really in your hands or not.”

“But for now, they believe it’s with us, and that can’t be wrong, can it?”

Ye Chen nodded again, taking another sip of water.

“Think about it, if he still suspect it’s with us, the traitor will definitely send a message to Qiandu Xiang, disclosing our whereabouts,” Ouyang Yue analyzed.

Ye Chen added, “If that’s the case, we could be in danger at any moment.”

“Exactly, and we can’t meet up with Shao Hengjiang, as that would expose them as well. He barely managed to escape with the Sacred Spirit Stone; bringing danger to them wouldn’t be right,” she argued.

“What are you trying to say?” Ye Chen asked curiously.

“Right now, the most urgent task is to find the traitor.”

“Isn’t that what you’ve been trying to do all along?”

“If we don’t find the traitor, we’ll never be at peace.”

“Then hurry up and grab everyone, interrogate each one. The traitor’s room must be hiding pigeons; otherwise, there’s no way they could inform Qiandu Xiang.”

Ouyang Yue looked at Ye Chen and said, “Exactly, if we find the pigeons, that’s all we need. Without them, there’s no way he could send messages out.”

“Hey, I was just rambling. Do you really think the traitor would keep pigeons in their room? They’d surely hide the pigeons somewhere nobody knows. This ship isn’t small; finding pigeons won’t be easy,” he said.

Ouyang Yue replied, “But it’s still a clue. We should discuss it together. If everyone works on it, we might figure out a way to find the traitor.”

“You guys have been deliberating for so long without success because the person is cautious around you,” Ye Chen said coldly.

“We can’t just do nothing and wait for others to surround us.” Having narrowly escaped danger today, she knew it wasn’t over; their movements would soon be exposed by the traitor. How could she possibly stay calm at a time like this?

Ye Chen said, “It’s not so dangerous. I think with the Evil Spirit’s interference, even though they didn’t destroy their ship, it would have delayed them. They won’t catch up so quickly.”

“Heh, maybe they have more than one ship!”

Ye Chen looked over, but the girl was right—nobody could be sure that there was only one ship.

“Quickly, we need to find my martial uncle so we can discuss what to do next.” As she spoke, she pulled up the lazy Ye Chen, suggesting that if they didn’t find a solution tonight, they could forget about sleeping.

Nangong Yao was also restless, certain about the matter of the traitor. Now the issue was to identify this person; as long as they were around, it was possible that they might poison him at any moment. If they also drew Qiandu Xiang’s men to them, could they still be lucky?

Giving the Sacred Spirit Stone to Shao Hengjiang was something Nangong Yao hesitated over. After all, he had not been in touch with Shao Hengjiang for many years. Although Shao Hengjiang had promised to help them, Nangong Yao still couldn’t trust him completely. Therefore, he decided to entrust Nangong Yan to Shao Hengjiang’s care.

Firstly, Nangong Yan was Shao Hengjiang’s biological daughter; he would undoubtedly protect her, so she would be safe. Secondly, with Nangong Yan watching Shao Hengjiang, if Shao Hengjiang wanted to spare his daughter from danger, he couldn’t possibly act selfishly. Nangong Yao could see the affection Shao Hengjiang had for Yan’er, so with Nangong Yan keeping an eye on him, Shao Hengjiang would not dare to harbor any ill intentions.

He made this choice reluctantly, thinking that without the meddling of the Evil Spirit and the aid of the Phoenix Monster, they would have fallen into Qiandu Xiang’s clutches today.

The situation being as it was, Qiandu Xiang seemed convinced that the Sacred Spirit Stone was in his hands. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he chase after Shao Hengjiang and instead come after him? He had led Qiandu Xiang here and, for the moment, escaped danger.

But if the inner traitor isn’t identified, Qiandu Xiang will soon catch up.

Guan Xun came in and said, “Master, we need to dock and replenish some food.”

Nangong Yao looked over, indeed, if they didn’t replenish their food soon, they probably wouldn’t last two days. It would take another five or six days to get back to Sacred Spirit Island.

“Where are we? Are there any nearby islands where we can get some food?”

Guan Xun responded, “There’s Freedom Island, Fish Ridge Island…” He mentioned several others.

Nangong Yao wasn’t in the mood and was about to say, “You decide,” when he heard a shout from outside, “Who…”

Ouyang Yue, dragging Ye Chen along to Nangong Yao’s location, stopped at the doorway where they saw a shadowy figure. The person was cloaked and acting furtively, as if eavesdropping.

As the person noticed Ye Chen and Ouyang Yue approaching, they turned and ran toward the corner staircase.

“The mole…” Ouyang Yue muttered.

Ye Chen gave chase, it seemed to be the mole, indeed.

However, the masked person’s martial arts were indeed impressive, not a mere underling. They picked up a nearby table and hurled it, forcing Ye Chen to halt to avoid injuring others and shattered the table into pieces with a palm strike.

By the time Ye Chen continued the chase, he reached the main hall, where about two dozen people were eating and chatting.

Ouyang Yue caught up and asked, “Where are they?”

Ye Chen replied, “I saw the person rush in here, then they disappeared.”

The drinking group was gambling, all of their attention fixed on the gambling table as waiters bustled about.

Ye Chen stepped inside to see if anyone looked suspicious, but on reaching the back, he found another passage in a corner, along with discarded black clothing, suggesting the person had taken off their outer layer.

Ouyang Yue started asking if anyone had seen someone in black.

The gamblers were all stunned, their answers unhelpful.

It wasn’t long before Nangong Yao joined them too.

By then, the number of people in the main hall had grown, with some coming for late-night snacks.

Ouyang Yue asked, “Should we arrest these people and question them one by one?”

That would surely cause panic. If it were so easy to get answers, they would have found the mole already.

“Perhaps they’ve already left through the back door,” Ye Chen said.

With so many eyes around, Nangong Yao felt a sense of defeat but still said, “Let’s go, we’ll talk more once we leave this place.” He knew it would be hard to apprehend the culprit all at once.

Back in Nangong Yao’s room, Nangong Yao had Guan Xun stand guard outside.

In the room, only Ye Chen, Ouyang Yue, and Shao Hengjiang remained.

Shao Hengjiang asked, “What exactly happened?”

“We were just coming to find you to discuss how to root out the mole, to see if we could figure out a plan. Right at the corner, we encountered someone in black, their face covered, crouching by your window, as if eavesdropping on your conversation.”

Knowing that Ye Chen had clashed with him, Nangong Yao asked, “Ye Chen, could you identify his martial arts moves?”

“Too fast. He was deliberately hiding them, and without engaging in a fight with me, he had already escaped into the main hall,” Ye Chen continued, “But he should be a middle-aged man; I saw white in his hair.”

“And the build?”

“Should be not much different from you, maybe a bit sturdier, and the martial arts are strong too.”

Ouyang Yue said, “Then we can look for someone with these characteristics. Being skilled in martial arts, he’s likely to be a leader. We only have seven or eight leaders.”

Ye Chen smiled and replied, “That’s not necessarily the case. Some people deliberately conceal their martial arts abilities. For someone like this mole, extra caution would be taken.”

Ouyang Yue added, “Uncle-Master, if we don’t catch this mole, we could be exposed at any moment. Why not arrest them first?”

“Arresting seven or eight leaders isn’t a good idea. It could unsettle the troops. What if the mole isn’t one of the leaders?” Nangong Yao said.
