Chapter 1148 - 1148 1134 Just Want to Help Him

Chapter 1148: Chapter 1134: Just Want to Help Him Chapter 1148: Chapter 1134: Just Want to Help Him Perhaps because he had gone to bed early the previous night, Ye Chen woke up as dawn was just breaking. The ring was still on the desk, not far from him, and Li Mo, who hadn’t awakened yet, was snoring. Ever since the Black Demonic Spirit and the Red Demonic Spirit had acquired bodies, they had moved to another room.

He couldn’t remember what exactly had happened the previous night.

He only felt pain all over his body, as if he had fallen apart. The presence of the ring meant that his plan had failed.

He had not anticipated such an outcome.

He had been thinking about when he might leave this place and return to the Central Plains. It seemed his plan was doomed to fall through completely. Suddenly, he recalled Divine Doctor Zhu’s words. The doctor had only said that the Sacred Spirit Stone had the power to destroy the ring, not that it would certainly succeed. So, it wasn’t Divine Doctor Zhu’s fault.

He remembered casting spells the night before, feeling as if he were on fire. The energy, hot enough to roast the ring, tortured him, as if he were skewered on a spit.

It seemed that the situation was worse than Divine Doctor Zhu had imagined.

His original decision had been correct; if he hadn’t feigned death, how could he have made Guo Yuyun give up hope? If she hadn’t given up, she would surely have followed him, and now he would have to find a way to persuade her to lose hope. That wasn’t necessary anymore.

He sighed deeply. This was his fate. If this was how the heavens wanted to treat him, what could he do? As long as nothing like what happened in Bell and Drum City happened again, that was the least acceptable outcome.

At least now, he didn’t need to worry about that anymore.

He picked up the ring, put it around his neck, opened the room’s door, and headed outside. The day had just begun to brighten, and a thick fog still hung over the sea. Ships were still navigating their way, while many people remained asleep.

He wasn’t hungry yet, so he headed up toward the cabin’s upper level, guessing that it would be a while before the sun appeared. He wanted to go up top to get some fresh air and to think things through properly.

The incident at Bell and Drum City kept reminding him of the danger he was in. He hadn’t wanted something like that to happen again. He had killed many people, and he was still consumed by self-blame, even though he knew he had been poisoned and Longhun was to blame. The fact remained that many had died by his hand, a guilt he would never escape.

He wished he could talk to someone and only then realized that the Red Demonic Spirit had obtained its own body and its own life. From now on, he would have to face everything alone. No one would help him anymore.

He walked to the deserted ship’s deck.

The wind was chilly, cutting through him in waves, making him feel a bit cold.

Whether it was the sound from the door or a connection of hearts, Nangong Yan had also woken up. Her room was not far from Ye Chen’s, and upon hearing footsteps, she had quickly risen and opened the door, catching a glimpse of a familiar silhouette making its way towards the staircase leading to the upper deck.

Identifying that it was Ye Chen, she didn’t call out, but anxious that the lad might do something foolish, she hurriedly dressed. Encountering such a situation, anyone might act rashly.

Ouyang Yue saw the hastily-prepared Nangong Yan and glanced outside, where the sun hadn’t risen yet, and asked, “Why are you up so early?”

Nangong Yan answered, “I couldn’t sleep anymore, and I felt like taking a walk outside.” As soon as she finished speaking, she darted out.

Indeed, the air was refreshing. He was worried about missing something if he went back, but he realized he had been overthinking. There was nothing to worry about now; he’d just let things take their course. He wanted to shout into the sea but decided against it, as it would surely disturb the people on the ship.

Footsteps approached. The girl, bundled up tightly, arms wrapped around herself, made her way to the deck. Nangong Yan confirmed he wasn’t there to jump into the sea and breathed a sigh of relief.

Ye Chen was a bit surprised. He had just arrived, and this girl had followed. He chuckled, “You don’t sleep at night and just keep an eye on me, do you?”

The ability to joke meant he wasn’t in complete despair. Nangong Yan said, “Maybe it’s a connection of hearts. I woke up to your footsteps.”

“Connected with my heart? That’s not good news. I could go mad at any moment, and then I might end up strangling someone.”

“Don’t be so anxious! I know you’re not in a good mood, but things aren’t that bad. There might still be other ways.”

“Not bad enough? Then how bad does it have to be?”

“Now all of us are thinking of ways to help you. You’re not alone. My father said that as long as we find ways for you to rid yourself of the magic power as much as possible, you can try casting spells again. We will definitely help you.”

“Thanks. Don’t worry; I’m not planning on jumping into the sea to kill myself just yet. I think I can live normally for a little while longer.”

“You’re talking nonsense again. It’s not for a little while; it’s for a lifetime.” As she spoke, Nangong Yan drew closer.

“Don’t worry about me, I’m really fine, I’m not someone who resigns himself to despair.”

Nangong Yan said, “I know, you were thinking, after this spellcasting was successful, you would then tell that girl, you’re worried she might marry someone before she knows about your situation.”

“Who told you that, Li Mo? Definitely not possible, it must be that Black Demonic Spirit guy.”

“It doesn’t matter who told me, you were indeed thinking that, weren’t you?”

Ye Chen forced a laugh and looked into the distance, saying, “Now there’s really nothing to think about, just need to live the coming days well.”

This was a positive sign, but making such a decision meant that he had thought it through, yet she could also hear the helplessness in his words, and asked, “So you’ve decided not to tell Guo Yuyun?”

That was absolutely impossible, Ye Chen said, “Maybe we are destined to have karma without destiny, meant only to be this way.”

It appeared he was resolved to the end. Nangong Yan, however, knew the weight of his statement; it was because he loved her and didn’t want to bring her danger that he was so resolute, saying, “It is because you love her that you don’t want to bring her danger, that’s why you say it like this.”

“Ah, let’s not talk about this anymore. As for you, you’ve given me a lot of help, even though it didn’t help me, my two old friends have indeed regained their bodies because of you, allowing me to repay a debt of gratitude. I should be thanking you.”

That wasn’t right, Nangong Yan said, “What do you mean? Didn’t you understand what I said? My father will find a way to help you break free from the entanglement of magic power and cast the spell again.”

Ye Chen, however, said, “It’s not so easy to help me break free. If it really were that simple, Divine Doctor Zhu would have done it long ago. The plan was to use a powerful energy to influence the will of the magic power, to break away from it better, but unexpectedly, we seem to be a whole. It is like it’s determined to cling to me.”

“You haven’t even tried, how do you know you can’t break free? I don’t deny that Divine Doctor Zhu’s medical skills are indeed very clever, but my father is not inferior. He is also the Island Master of Immortal Medicine Island. You should believe in my father—that there is always a way out.” Nangong Yan didn’t want to let him despair, suddenly adding, “Even if this method fails, we can still think of other ways.”

Ye Chen looked at Nangong Yan, clearly understanding what Nangong’s ‘other way’ meant, yet he chuckled, “Don’t be foolish, girl. Don’t worry about my affairs, it’s none of your business.”

“But I want to be involved. If you were a stranger, I could ignore it, but you’re not a stranger. From the moment I boarded the Cangqiong, it was destined that we would be connected.” At that moment when she confirmed that Ye Chen had decided to sever ties with the Central Plains, Nangong Yan knew there was no one by his side who could understand him, and she had to stand firmly with him.

“You don’t need to waste your energy on my issue.”

“Right, I certainly don’t need to, if you hadn’t helped me, repeatedly saving me time and again. I wouldn’t want to bother with this issue, but you have saved me many times. Let me help you. You don’t need to feel obligated; we’re like friends. I just want to help you.” Her eyes were pleading. For Nangong Yan, she knew at this time he needed someone the most, and she wanted to be that person who asked for nothing in return.

It seemed the girl was really excited. If he didn’t agree now, she would probably figure out a way to drag him back. She was capable of doing that. He laughed and said, “Of course, how could I just give up now? I definitely need to think of a solution, otherwise, I won’t be able to rest in peace.”

Relieved by his response, Nangong Yan finally convinced him, then she added, “Don’t worry, your situation came about so suddenly, my father was just recently informed, so he was a bit caught off guard. But once we return to Immortal Medicine Island, we will definitely come up with a solution.”

Ye Chen couldn’t understand why he had gotten entangled with this girl. Perhaps his luck with women was just too strong. He had stated early on, that once his luck with love struck, there was no stopping it.

“Let us help you. Don’t give up so quickly! We haven’t reached the last step yet; there might still be a chance.”

“If I don’t agree, are you planning on capturing me?”

Nangong Yan smiled and said, “If you’re really as stubborn as a child, then there’s nothing that can be done, we’d have to resort to that.”

“You’re very direct.” A round, red disk rose behind him, like a hot branding iron yet not glaring. The patch of dawn’s light slowly turned red as well.

The mist was still thick, but it would soon have nowhere to hide.

The two stood under the illumination of the sunlight.

Waiting for it to slowly grow dazzling.

“I’m going down to get some food,” said Nangong Yan, feeling a bit hungry since she had not eaten much the previous night, and now her stomach was grumbling.

“Mm, go ahead, I’m getting a little hungry too.”

Just as Nangong Yan was about to leave, she turned her head to look back and said, “You’re not thinking of jumping into the ocean, are you? If you do that, I would never respect you for the rest of my life.”
