Chapter 1096 - 1096 1082 Eliminate the Roots
Chapter 1096: Chapter 1082: Eliminate the Roots Chapter 1096: Chapter 1082: Eliminate the Roots Upon hearing this, Wan Shajiang felt it was highly likely. Such an important item would surely not be with Ren Xiongbei but must be with his son, Ren Haotian—this was without a doubt.
Xiong Shuobo had also come to this realization.
Wan Shajiang exclaimed, “It must be in your son’s possession!”
Rising to the bait with a cold laugh, Ren Xiongbei said, “You cowards, dreaming of obtaining the Secret Manual, don’t stand a chance.” He had calculated the time by now, his son should have escaped; he could rest easy now.
“Damn it, this was a plan!” Wan Shajiang felt he had been duped.
Xiong Shuobo was hopping mad, swearing that he would drag Ren Haotian out, and those around them buzzed with discussion.
Right at this moment, a poisoned dart flew in, striking Ren Xiongbei square in the head. With everyone’s attention fixed on the Secret Manual, who could have anticipated that someone would assassinate Ren Xiongbei?
Following the dart’s strike, a shadow darted away from the window.
Wan Shajiang and Xiong Shuobo chased after the figure, but it had already vanished into the crowded streets.
When Wan Shajiang returned, Xiong Shuobo felt Ren Xiongbei’s neck and shook his head, confirming that Ren Xiongbei was dead.
Wan Shajiang thought to himself, the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual must indeed be in the hands of Ren Haotian’s son, but who was the person in black just now? With such high-level martial arts, why kill Ren Xiongbei? What was the motive?
Xiong Shuobo couldn’t care less about Ren Xiongbei. What concerned him more was whether he could find Ren Xiongbei’s son. That was what mattered most. He said, “Now that Ren Xiongbei is dead, our vengeance is served,” and then hurriedly took his leave, leaving Wan Shajiang and the disciples from the Immortal and Demon domains behind without further inquiry into who killed Ren Xiongbei.
Seeing Xiong Shuobo leave hurriedly with his men, Wan Shajiang of course understood Xiong Shuobo’s intentions and said, “Let’s go, we should leave as well.”
Zhu Sheng, his right-hand man, followed closely and said, “The Dragon Slaying Secret Manual must be with Ren Haotian.”
“Certainly. Ren Haotian is the son of Ren Xiongbei. Ren Xiongbei diverted us just to hand over the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual to his own son. There’s hardly any doubt about that.”
“Indeed. I wonder, after leaving the city, where would they go? Are they still heading to Demon Palace City?”
“Definitely,” said Wan Shajiang. “Aside from seeking help from the people of Demon Palace City, there won’t be anyone else willing to help them.”
Zhu Sheng said, “The people of Demon Palace City dare to protect him.”
“Ren Xiongbei is dead, we have no proof that his son is the murderer, so we can’t touch him,” Wan Shajiang said.
“But he has the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual in his hands, the people of Demon Palace City dare to monopolize it.”
Wan Shajiang, still wary of Demon Palace City, retorted, “If he enters Demon Palace City, would you dare to cause trouble?”
“Which means we need to find him before he enters Demon Palace City.”
“No, it’s before Xiong Shuobo finds him,” Wan Shajiang corrected, fully aware that Xiong Shuobo was definitely out to find Ren Haotian.
“Right, if they catch him first, the Secret Manual will be theirs,” Zhu Sheng concurred.
“And there’s also the Immortal Pearl.”
Suddenly, Zhu Sheng expressed his doubt, “Who was that person in black just now, why did he kill Ren Xiongbei?”
“How should I know? Maybe one of his enemies,” Wan Shajiang replied.
Zhu Sheng suddenly recalled something and remarked, “I heard that when Ren Xiongbei was planning to return to Immortal City, he was stopped by Yuan Jingxing and others. Ren Xiongbei said that Fang Ziren went mad and the Secret Manual was stolen by Su Zhanze; is that true?”
“Would you believe that?”
“I don’t. But I heard Su Zhanze has become their Sect Leader and even brought the Dragon Slayer Sword back to Immortal City,” Zhu Sheng mentioned.
Stunned by this revelation, Wan Shajiang asked, “When did you hear this?”
“I just heard about it recently, not sure if it’s true. Initially, Qiao Haoyu disagreed with Su Zhanze becoming Sect Leader, but when Su Zhanze produced the Dragon Slayer Sword, Qiao Haoyu could only consent.”
Wan Shajiang remained shocked, saying, “Wasn’t the Dragon Slayer Sword said to be stolen by a group skilled in the Dragon Slaying Clan’s martial arts?”
Zhu Sheng nodded and added, “Exactly, so I have my doubts too, but the Dragon Slayer Sword indeed made its way back to Immortal City with Su Zhanze.”
At a loss, Wan Shajiang almost froze, unable to believe that all this was true. He said, “Never mind that, let’s capture Ren Haotian first, don’t let him get away. The Immortal Pearl must still be in his possession.”
He too was puzzled about who the masked assailant could be.
Meanwhile, Ren Haotian had fled, now utterly unaware of his father’s fate as night fell.
He knew his father might be killed.
Surrounded by pitch darkness, he had no idea how long he had been running, but he knew it was a chance his father had fought hard to provide. He had to seize it, or he faced certain death. Perhaps by reaching Demon Palace City and seeking help from the people there, his father might still be saved.
In the oppressive darkness, only the sound of horse hooves could be heard. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared, and the two horsemen ahead were flung into the air along with their horses.
A figure wearing a half-mask emerged.
Ren Haotian could see clearly, although only half the face was visible, but he recognized the person nonetheless.
Fan Fei and Ren Haotian hurriedly jumped down from their horses’ backs and drew their swords, charging towards Su Zhanze in front of them.
Thinking of all the troubles caused by Su Zhanze, Ren Haotian couldn’t suppress his anger and said, “You devil, why did you frame us?” He hadn’t expected Su Zhanze to have ruined half his face.
“This half of my face is all thanks to you,” Su Zhanze retorted. “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have lost Guo Yuqing. I wouldn’t have sought out Longhun, nor would I have become crazed with obsession and ended up destroying my face.”
Hearing this, Ren Haotian scoffed and said, “I’m afraid that’s a lie only you would believe.”
Ren Haotian had also learned about Su Zhanze becoming a part of the Immortal City Sect.
Even if Ren Haotian and Fan Fei joined forces, they were no match for Su Zhanze. Several arcs of lightning shot out, and with a crack, the group behind them didn’t stand a chance, all falling to the ground.
“You big devil, all you want is the position of Sect Leader. If you want the position of Sect Leader, you can have it,” Ren Haotian said, recognizing the immense power of their opponent; he and Fan Fei were simply not on par.
Seeing a large number of bodies falling behind him, Fan Fei said to Ren Haotian, “We need to run…”
But before he could finish his sentence, a bolt of lightning pierced through his chest, killing him instantly.
“You devil,” Ren Haotian thought he might die here, taking out the Immortal Pearl from his chest and summoning a surge of energy to strike at Su Zhanze.
Su Zhanze performed a Dodging Technique and released a Dark Beast, which exploded with a bang, sending Ren Haotian flying.
“Don’t think I don’t know. You altered the top copy of the Secret Manual and gave it to me. Hand over the real Secret Manual, or I’ll make sure you die without a complete corpse,” threatened Su Zhanze.
Slowly getting up from the ground, Ren Haotian wiped the corner of his mouth and murmured, “So it really was you,” as he grabbed the Immortal Pearl.
“Yes, I did it. What about it?” replied Su Zhanze defiantly.
What to do? Ren Haotian thought hard; if he really handed over the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual, could he save his life? Knowing all of this, how could Su Zhanze possibly let him live? He wanted to survive, but how could he stay alive? If he died, who would seek vengeance for him, who would expose Su Zhanze’s evil deeds? Right now, the most important thing was to stay alive.
It seemed he had no choice but to hand over the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual; Su Zhanze would find it regardless, but he had to survive.
“Fine, you want the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual, I’ll give it to you,” said Ren Haotian.
“Heh, so quick to change your mind,” taunted Su Zhanze.
No, even if he handed it over, Su Zhanze wouldn’t let him live. Ren Haotian was very clear about that. Now, he was the only one who knew what Su Zhanze had done. His father was most likely not going to survive, and if he died, who would avenge them, who would reveal Su Zhanze’s wrongdoing?
Clutching his wounded chest, Ren Haotian took out the Secret Manual from his bosom and glanced ahead at the cliff.
What to do? He decided to take a gamble, to see if the heavens really intended for the Ren family to be wiped out.
“Very good, hand it over, and I’ll let you go right away,” said Su Zhanze.
Impossible, there was no way this man would let him go. He knew Su Zhanze too well—all this had been Su Zhanze’s doing, and now that Su Zhanze knew that Ren Haotian was aware, it was most secure to kill him just in case.
All of a sudden, Ren Haotian threw the Secret Manual forwards, sending it flying over the cliff.
How could Su Zhanze allow the Secret Manual to fall down the cliff? He quickly flew forward, attempting to catch the manual.
Ren Haotian took out a surge of energy from the Immortal Pearl, striking out in an effort to send Su Zhanze plummeting below the cliff.
To Ren Haotian’s surprise, Su Zhanze caught the Secret Manual with a bolt of lightning and, with a Dodging Technique, rebounded a powerful blast of energy that struck Ren Haotian, sending him flying into the abyss of the hundred-zhang cliff.
How could Ren Haotian be a match for Su Zhanze? This was utterly impossible.
With the Secret Manual secured, Su Zhanze turned around, only to find that Ren Haotian had vanished into the dark depths below the cliff.
Horse hooves echoed from afar, and Su Zhanze knew they were surely from the Immortal and Demon Domain, so he quickly hid.
It wasn’t long before Wan Shajiang arrived and discovered a large number of corpses, all disciples of the Immortal City Sect.
Zhu Sheng recognized Fan Fei and said, “That’s one of Ren Xiongbei’s trusted men.”
Wan Shajiang ran over; more than a dozen were dead, but there was no sign of Ren Haotian. What had happened, and who was responsible for this?
Soon, Xiong Shuobo came running over, initially thinking Wan Shajiang was responsible and exclaimed, “Where is Ren Haotian?”
Wan Shajiang looked up and said, “That’s exactly what I want to know.”
Suspecting it was Wan Shajiang’s doing, Xiong Shuobo accused, “You killed them.”
“Cut the crap! I just got here, and they were all dead when I arrived,” Wan Shajiang bellowed.
Xiong Shuobo also dismounted, followed by an assistant, who commented, “The kills were all done in a single move without giving the victims any chance to retaliate. The killer’s martial arts are extremely advanced.”
Xiong Shuobo realized that to kill in one blow was beyond Wan Shajiang’s ability, thus dispelling his suspicions, and asked, “Then, who killed them?”
“How should I know? It was just like this when I arrived here,” Wan Shajiang said and looked around once more; he couldn’t find Ren Haotian’s body and felt extremely frustrated. Then, he thought of the person who killed Ren Xiongbei, whose martial arts were so formidable— which sect could they belong to?
“Damn it, how could someone beat me to it?” Xiong Shuobo was not pleased.
