Chapter 1079 - 1079 1065 Conceiving a Plan

Chapter 1079: Chapter 1065: Conceiving a Plan Chapter 1079: Chapter 1065: Conceiving a Plan However, one thing had always hung heavy in Nangong Yan’s heart, the fear that if Qiandu Xiang truly had someone by Ouyang Yue’s side, her father and the others were unaware, which posed a great danger. This was not a matter to be taken lightly; she had to find a way to inform them and raise their vigilance. But how? She had to see them in person to share her concerns, that much was certain.

“I need to find my father,” Nangong Yan suddenly declared.

Ye Chen looked over, asking, “Why do you need to find your father?”

“Didn’t you say it is possible Qiandu Xiang has placed his own people around Ouyang Yue?”

“I was merely speculating.”

Yet Nangong Yan insisted, “It’s not mere speculation. If it’s true, my father and the others will be in great danger.”

“So, what do you plan to do?”

“I must go to them and tell them about this,” Nangong Yan thought to herself.

“You wouldn’t be thinking of dragging me along to find them, would you? I’m not up for that game. With all the unknown creatures on this island, I don’t even feel safe with hundreds of people, let alone going alone. I won’t take such a risk with you,” Ye Chen declared.

Nangong Yan looked over; his martial arts skills were the best here. How could she dare to venture out alone? If anything went wrong, it would be a disaster. And right now, the only person she could trust was him.

“We’re husband and wife; you should help me.”

Ye Chen replied, “I’ve never taken that seriously.”

“But we are married, aren’t we?”

“We haven’t consummated the marriage yet.”

“We can talk about all that later. You wouldn’t want to see me come to harm,” Nangong Yan said.

“What happens to you is none of my business. Go find your godfather,” Ye Chen said bluntly.

“Hey, I may have recognized a godfather as a precaution, but you’re the one I trust the most,” Nangong Yan considered.

“Pah, save those sweet nothings for the kids,” he retorted.

Continuing, Nangong Yan said, “Think about it. If the Sacred Spirit Stone ends up in Qiandu Xiang’s hands, will you stand a chance? You must take a stand with us. It’s likely my father and the others don’t even know they’re being followed. An ambush could catch them unprepared, and if the Key Box is stolen, we’d be in a real mess. Don’t think this doesn’t concern you.” She was genuinely worried.

“Your flattery might be impressive, but I’m not foolish enough to fall for it. No way am I doing anything stupid,” he scoffed.

Hearing this, Nangong Yan pressed, “Hey, you’re the Sect Leader of New City Sect. Do you know what Qiandu Xiang dreams of?”

“What he dreams of is none of my business.”

“His first dream is to become the Sect Leader of the Sacred Spirit Sect. His second is to unify the thirty-six islands, and his third is to challenge the realms of immortals and demons to rule the mortal world. The New City Sect can’t remain uninvolved,” Nangong Yan glanced at Ye Chen.

Though Ye Chen did not respond, her words did hold some truth.

“You’re a great hero. How can you stand by idly if the realms are in danger? In the fight against the Dragon Slaying Clan, you sacrificed your own family, doing away with your own father!”

“Hey, watch your words, girl—it wasn’t I who killed him,” he retorted.

“Right, not you, but you defeated him. How can you just watch the Sacred Spirit Stone fall into Qiandu Xiang’s hands? You need to help us. We are all enforcers of justice,” Nangong Yan reasoned, thinking she saw a glimmer of hope in what seemed to be an oblivious Ye Chen.

“I used to think you were quite foolish!”

“And now you see how brilliant I am, right?”

“Just as foolish as before.”

Plotting, Nangong Yan said, “If you and I act swiftly, hurry over, and coordinate with my father and the people from Iron Ten Thousand Island, we can launch a pincer attack.” She daydreamed wildly.

Ye Chen chuckled at her fantasy, saying, “Then we could wipe them out in one fell swoop and forget the Sacred Spirit Stone, how perfect that would be.”

Nangong Yan nodded slightly and added, “Exactly, Qiandu Xiang and his crew will never anticipate us joining forces; we could wipe them out completely.” She found herself stroking her chin again, despite lacking any stubble.

Ye Chen applauded sarcastically, “Right, everything is within your control, an absolute genius.”

“I know you think highly of yourself and look down on me.”

“How could I possibly look down on you? When you unleashed the Water Dragon, you nearly succeeded; you’re the very definition of genius,” Ye Chen said.

Nangong Yan took a sip of water, contemplating seriously. As long as her godfather joined them, they would surely be able to encircle Qiandu Xiang. With just one boat, how could he pose a threat to them? She boasted, “This plan will definitely work; I even impress myself.”

“Indeed, how could one not be impressed by you? Your masterful strategy with the Water Dragon almost had me meeting a watery grave. But fortune favored me—Heaven isn’t ready for me to die just yet.”

“Can you drop the sarcasm and just say what’s on your mind? Is there something wrong with my plan?” she asked.

“No, I clapped for you, didn’t I? How could your plan possibly fail?” he teased. “But I always believe there’s no such thing as a perfect plan. Plans keep changing; anything could happen on a whim.”

“What could possibly go wrong?” Nangong Yan glanced at him.

“How would I know? Just from my two years of experience, I’ve learned that plans can’t be too rigid, and one shouldn’t celebrate too early. Good things often turn sour—I’ve seen too much of it,” Ye Chen spoke from the heart.

“No use debating this further, let’s just go ahead with it. I’ll think it over a bit more and discuss it with my godfather later, before we set out ahead of time,” Nangong Yan dreamily thought, imagining how perfect the plan would be, with cooperation from both sides, and encircling Qiandu Xiang, leaving him nowhere to be buried—a flawless strategy indeed.

Ye Chen exclaimed in surprise, “Wow, just a few days ago, you were plotting to poison him, and now he’s become your godfather. That’s quite the quick turnaround.”

Nangong Yan couldn’t stand his cold demeanor and replied, “So what? Our relationship has developed this quickly. Why don’t you go find yourself a godfather?”

“I don’t have your skills, saying he’s a bad guy one minute and then acknowledging him as a godfather the next. Who knows, maybe soon you won’t call him godfather but just ‘father’ instead,” Ye Chen clearly had a double meaning in his words.

Nangong Yan pouted her nose, disliking his attitude, and said, “I find you incredibly annoying, always hating to see other people do well.”

“How could that be? I long for others to do well.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t be too terrible. If you help me, and we join forces to defeat Qiandu Xiang, I’ll definitely get my father and Ouyang Yue to bring out the Sacred Spirit Stones to help you,” she said.

Ye Chen nodded slightly and said, “You even remember my issues, you’re really considerate.”

“You’re not too bad either, after all, you have helped us. I always remember those who have aided me and keep their kindness in mind,” Nangong Yan remarked.

“Heh, you’re actually quite nice,” Ye Chen said.

“Of course, do you think my plan will work?” Nangong Yan mused, thrilled by the idea of sharing her suspicions with her father ahead and executing an unexpected plan—truly a stroke of genius.

“Are you that happy about it?”

“And why not?”

“No reason, I think it’s beautiful too, absolutely seamless,” Ye Chen commented.

“Quit your nagging. When the time comes, you’ll follow my lead, got it?”

“Yo, I’m supposed to follow orders from you,” Ye Chen said in surprise.

“Pay attention, will you? I’m giving you another chance. Just think about it, when you’re old, having achieved such a great deed, it’ll be a memory worth cherishing, and I will have led you,” Nangong Yan fondly pondered, never considering she’d have such an opportunity.

Ye Chen actually thought she resembled Guo Yuyun quite a bit, both crazy in their own ways, acting impulsively on whatever crossed their minds—this was what they had most in common.

“What are you daydreaming about? This is for our own good, as well as yours. Don’t you still want to obtain the Spiritual Stones and destroy your ring?” Nangong Yan clamored.

“Of course I do, how could I not?”

“Then it’s settled,” she declared.

Ye Chen commented, “With such a great opportunity, why don’t you involve others instead of insisting on having me with you?”

“That’s because I hold you in high regard, don’t you know!” Of course, Nangong Yan’s words were mere pleasantries; everyone knew of her formidable martial arts skills, which alone were confirmation enough.

“Oh, I suppose I should feel proud, right?”

“Absolutely, I must plan this carefully and can’t afford to engage in idle chatter with you.” The plan, of course, had come to her in a sudden inspiration.

Unbeknownst to them, dusk had arrived.

Shao Hengjiang ordered a halt to rest.

The Black Demonic Spirit flew out, saying, “You’re not actually going to mess around with that damned girl, are you?”

“That’s not my intention,” Ye Chen replied.

“In this damned place, within these woods, who knows what kinds of things are lurking? If we’re not careful, we could end up losing our lives,” the Black Demonic Spirit continued. “Once we’ve defeated Qiandu Xiang, after we’ve killed him, they won’t give a damn about us three.”

Ye Chen smiled faintly and said, “That shouldn’t happen, should it?”

“What do you mean ‘shouldn’t’? I trust no one. We should take the Sacred Spirit Stones for ourselves.”

Ye Chen’s eyes widened, astonished by his ambition.

“I’m not joking here, we still have a Phoenix Monster at our disposal. There’s no need to fear them; we have a chance,” the Black Demonic Spirit proposed.

“Heh, you’re quite confident. Do you think others don’t have monsters at their command? I haven’t even tamed this beast yet,” Ye Chen remarked.

“Untamed is even better. Once it goes mad, no one can control it,” the Red Demonic Spirit chimed in. “Guo Yuyun always did things this way.”

“You make it sound so easy. I’m not playing this game with you; I still value my life.” Ye Chen took a deep breath, but he was also mulling over the girl’s remark. She was true to her word, never hesitating to act.
