Chapter 1071 - 1071 1057 Adopted Daughter

Chapter 1071: Chapter 1057: Adopted Daughter Chapter 1071: Chapter 1057: Adopted Daughter Nangong Yan glanced at Ye Chen.

“Really, I still admire you. You almost completely succeeded, but now you’ve also succeeded halfway. If it weren’t for you stirring things up, they would’ve been in even more danger,” Ye Chen said.

Although he praised her, she was still not pleased, peeling an orange.

“I mean it from the bottom of my heart, I really think you’re brave, but sometimes you just don’t consider the consequences. You never thought, what if you really got caught, got ravaged, what then!”

The Black Demonic Spirit had now calmed down quite a bit. This morning he had been somewhat anxious, hearing that the ship had stopped and could not keep up. Of course, he was anxious, but now that the ship was moving again, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Ye Chen carefully looked at the Secret Manual Shao Hengjiang had given him, but mastering it all at once wasn’t that easy. Martial arts have never been something you could master in an instant; how many have succeeded only by forgetting to sleep and eat.

Since there was not much time for him, he decided to read it thoroughly twice first, and when he had more time, he would come back and study it slowly. This would help him with his martial arts.

The new Sacred Heavenly Technique was modified to counter the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual, and he was going to see how the Sacred Heavenly Technique countered the martial arts of the Dragon Slaying Secret Manual.

It was even more beneficial for understanding his own martial arts.

Seeing how excited Ye Chen was, Nangong Yan threw cold water on it, saying, “Don’t get too happy too soon. If Qiandu Xiang ends up stealing the Sacred Spirit Stone, it’s all for nothing, like saving a monkey.”

The Black Demonic Spirit looked over, but the girl did make some sense.

Ye Chen continued to read leisurely.

Soon, someone brought food over. They moved a stove over; it looked like they were going to have hot pot. One of the guys said, “We caught a lot of seafood today. Let you have a taste of the sea’s flavors.”

Ye Chen said, “I guess it’s because your leader is especially happy.”

The guy put everything down, introduced each item, then placed the hot pot on the coal-lit stove and said, “If you need anything, come find me in the kitchen.”

“Alright, go ahead,” Ye Chen said, impatient, putting down the book in his hands.

Nangong Yan could never have imagined that this damn monkey would get along with Shao Hengjiang just like that. It was simply unbelievable. How could Shao Hengjiang be so kind to him, treating him as if he were his own father to his own son, even giving him his secret martial arts manual. It was inconceivable.

Shao Hengjiang was not such a person, in her view. He was supposed to be very cunning, insidious, up to no good, but she found that he was not as impenetrable nor as heartless and ruthless as she had thought.

If he really were such a bad person, having had a ship destroyed, almost messing up a big matter, how could he not be angry? It made people suspicious that he was actually seeking cooperation with Ye Chen.

These couple of days, she had also heard a lot about Shao Hengjiang and Wan Liyun from the sailors; most of them were fishermen from the vicinity of Iron Ten Thousand Island. They spoke of the recent years’ changes, how it used to be terrible, often being robbed out of nowhere, but now the situation had improved a lot.

This was different from the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits she had heard of in the past. She didn’t know whom to believe now.

Regarding the painting of her mother, she asked Shao Hengjiang to send it over, and to her surprise, he actually did. The whole thing felt very unreasonable to her. Shao Hengjiang was the Island Master of Iron Ten Thousand Island. How could he become so obedient? Perhaps she really misunderstood him, she shook her head.

It started getting dark, and the Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit couldn’t stay put any longer. At that moment, Li Mo arrived, so they asked Li Mo to take them out for a walk.

Ye Chen patted the lovesick Nangong Yan, asking, “Daydreaming?”

“You’re the one daydreaming,” Nangong Yan said, wielding her chopsticks.

“You’re not really scheming something bad, are you?” Ye Chen worried that the girl was concocting some bad plan again.

“I’m saying, why would Shao Hengjiang be so nice to us.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I destroyed his ship and messed up his relationship with Qiandu Xiang, creating a powerful enemy for him. He couldn’t possibly let us off just because your martial arts are good. It makes no sense. I asked him to send over my mother’s painting, and he actually did it obediently. Don’t you find it rude?”

Listening to her analysis, Ye Chen thought the girl wasn’t dumb after all, to be able to think things through, and asked in return, “What do you think is the reason?”

“I’m asking you, not the other way around!” Nangong Yan said.

“Maybe he liked your mother, had a good relationship with her, and decided to forgive and forget,” Ye Chen said off the cuff.

Nangong Yan looked at Ye Chen with doubt.

Ye Chen further said, “After all, he and your mother were fellow disciples. If it’s not for that reason, I don’t know why either.”

Nangong Yan’s mother passed away when she was very young, and she had rarely heard her father talk about the past in the Sacred Spirit Sect. All this was somewhat unfamiliar to her.

“Hey, thinking about how he painted your mother, you can guess why. Because he had feelings for her, it’s understandable that he let us off. Don’t you think so?”

After listening, Nangong Yan stroked her chin.

“Stop stroking your chin. You’re a girl, you don’t have a beard. Why stroke your chin?”

The hotpot meal was coming to an end, the flames dimmed, leaving little left to eat.

“He wouldn’t be that kind-hearted.”

“Actually, he really wanted to take you as his goddaughter.”

On hearing this, Nangong Yan was about to explode, exclaiming, “What, take me as his goddaughter?”

“Yes, he’s your mother’s senior brother. Even though he did some really awful things when he was young, they’re still sworn siblings. Taking you as his goddaughter is understandable.”

“What kind of sick joke is that? Me, recognize a pirate chief as my godfather? Do you think I don’t have a real father?” Nangong Yan snorted indignantly, raising her voice, “Was that his idea?”

Seeing that she wasn’t suspicious, Ye Chen replied, “Yes, it was when we were drinking. He casually mentioned that he really liked your mother and regretted missing out on her. He wanted to make it up to you.”

“I don’t need his reparations.” It made no sense at all. Having feelings for her mother but trying to make it up to her? That was totally unrelated.

“Hey, it was just a mention, but I think it’s worth considering. Maybe your influence could actually turn him into a good person. That wouldn’t be a bad thing, would it? What’s the harm in having one more godfather?”

The more Nangong Yan thought about it, the less it made sense.

Ye Chen added, “You’ve been fighting each other for so many years, if you really were to recognize him as your godfather, it could lead to making them good people, which would be a good thing for the thirty-six islands, too. What’s not to like?”

Nangong Yan actually gave it some thought, looking at Ye Chen but remained silent.

“If he’s willing, I’d even like to be his godson,” Ye Chen said.

“You might as well just be his grandson.” Nangong Yan said mockingly.

Ye Chen chuckled.

Nangong Yan couldn’t believe that Shao Hengjiang would have such a thought; it was completely unexpected. She muttered disbelievingly, “The things you’re telling me, they’re all false, right?”

“No, they’re true.” He had promised Shao Hengjiang that he would try to bring them together as father and daughter. If he really could become her godfather, that would be a significant achievement. After all, Shao Hengjiang would likely give him the Sacred Heavenly Technique for real, even if it had just been a casual, offhand comment at the time. But the man did express sincerity, so he had to make an effort; otherwise, it just wouldn’t be right.

“That old coot really is mad. How can he have such thoughts!” Nangong Yan shook her head.

“Not necessarily. Maybe it’s because he loves your mother, so he loves everything associated with her. Those drawings expressed his love for your mother, and maybe he feels he owes her something and wants to repay her through you.”

“I don’t need him to repay anything. The more you speak, the less it makes sense.”

Ye Chen smiled and continued, “Hey, the man treats you quite well.”

“So you’re saying he didn’t punish me for more reasons than just collaborating with you.”

Ye Chen said, “I don’t have that much charm.”

The sky gradually darkened.

“Hey, he really does like you a lot,” Ye Chen said.

“I don’t need his affection,” Nangong Yan felt extremely uncomfortable with the words, sensing something odd.

“Don’t be so quick to get upset,” Ye Chen said.

Nangong Yan walked away to the other side as someone came in to clean up.

Ye Chen was full and kept muttering, “He really has treated you very well. You wanted the drawings he saved, and he gave them to you. What more do you want?”

“Those are my mother’s drawings.”

“Sure, they are indeed your mother’s drawings, but he’s the one who drew them. Why should he give them to you? You think this ship is yours? You’re just a girl who did something wrong and got caught. And yet you speak so confidently; who do you think you are?”

Nangong Yan pouted, snorting, “I never asked him to let me go.”

“Right, he’s being a fool for letting you go otherwise,” Ye Chen said.

Nangong Yan lay there, thoughtful, unable to come up with a good reason. Perhaps the old man indeed had feelings for things associated with his love for her mother, hence his good treatment of her. Only this explanation made sense. Shaking her head, it seemed the old fellow wasn’t all that terrible.

“I’ll leave you to it. I need to take a walk. You should think things over,” he said as he left.

Filled with confusion, Nangong Yan jumped out and said, “I’ll come too.”

“How can you follow me at this time? You should be thinking about which monster to release to start a fight between Qiandu Xiang and Shao Hengjiang,” Ye Chen said.
