Chapter 1022 - 1022 1008 The Contradictory Heart

Chapter 1022: Chapter 1008: The Contradictory Heart Chapter 1022: Chapter 1008: The Contradictory Heart When Shi Xueqin finally found Ling Li.

“Junior Sister, where have you been?” Ling Li could hardly believe that what he was seeing was real. He had been so worried. Recently, people in the Demon Domain had been capturing members of the Dragon Slaying Clan everywhere.

“Nowhere, just wandering around.” Although she really wanted to know if Longhun was okay, she restrained herself from asking right away, so as not to arouse suspicion.

“Yes, people from the Demon Domain are looking for members of the Dragon Slaying Clan everywhere.”

“I’m just an inconspicuous person, they won’t take notice of me.”

“It’s good that you are safe. You really scared me to death,” Ling Li said, overjoyed.

“Is Longhun in your hands?” She couldn’t hold back any longer, desiring to know whether Longhun was dead or alive.

“How do you know Longhun is with me?” He was very surprised as they had been meticulous in their actions; nobody should have found out.

Shi Xueqin replied, “I heard that he was in Bell and Drum City, got injured, and was later taken away by a group of people with covered faces, who knew Dragon Slayer Island martial arts.”

Only then did Ling Li answer, “Yes, he is indeed with us.”

“Is he dead?”

Ling Li knew that Longhun had killed Shi Xueqin’s father, and she must have hated Longhun to death. This was a vendetta for patricide. He said, “He is not yet, but rest assured, I will definitely avenge your father and mine. However, you need to give us some time.”

It seemed Ye Chen had guessed correctly. Surprised, Shi Xueqin said, “He’s not dead?”

“No, but I assure you, he will die soon.”

“Soon, why?”

“Once we extract the Dark Beast from his body, he will be of no use to us. This executioner, a murderer, definitely won’t escape. He’s on a one-way street to death, and no one can save him.”

“May I see him?” Shi Xueqin wanted to know his whereabouts. To save him, she must figure out where he was.

“A very secret place.” Ling Li was somewhat surprised, wondering why Shi Xueqin would want to see her father’s killer. Fearing that she would be too heartbroken, he said, “Such a murderous criminal, it’s better not to see.”

“I want to ask him, why he could be so cruel.” As she spoke, Shi Xueqin had tears flowing, half genuine, half feigned.

Ling Li said, “Don’t be too sad. You still have me. Although Dragon Slayer Island has fallen, we remain, we’re all family.” He could feel Shi Xueqin’s sadness but was still very happy to see his Junior Sister again.

Shi Xueqin cried even more sorrowfully.

Ling Li didn’t know what to say to comfort her, but he could understand. He knew Shi Xueqin had always loved Longhun, but now that she knew her father was killed by the man she loved, how could she bear it? He said, “Well, I’ll take you to see him later. Don’t be too upset.”

Shi Xueqin nodded slightly.

“There are quite a few brothers with me. They are all our relatives. Don’t be too sad,” Ling Li said.

Shi Xueqin nodded slightly again.

“I can understand how you’re feeling, I’m also very distressed,” Ling Li said.

Shi Xueqin felt somewhat relieved that Longhun was not yet killed, but she also felt she was degrading herself, as he was the murderer of her father. Yet, she wanted to save him; she felt very conflicted. He was her father’s killer, but also the father of the child in her womb.

He was an executioner, and yet she was so attached to him.

The whip cracked in the dark chamber, marking Longhun’s body with scars, yet he didn’t cry out, instead smiling and saying, “Is that all you’ve got? Don’t worry, your lordship here is still in good shape. Keep it coming; I want to savor it, or else I’ll die regretting.”

He knew Su Zhanze would never let him go, but he hadn’t seen Su Zhanze for days, which he found strange. Aware that his days were numbered, what could he do in the hands of others? Yet he felt no regrets, having met such a formidable adversary.

He had lost; what else could he do? Perhaps it was all fate.

With a cold laugh, he unnerved the whip wielders. His flesh was battered to the point of peeling, and yet he still laughed—is he a lunatic, or is his flesh not flesh at all, numb to pain?

A bucket of water was thrown over him.

That was water mixed with salt. All that could be heard was a startled “eh” as his body trembled, but after the “eh,” what came next was: “Comfortable, another round, I can feel it now.”

“This guy’s gone mad,” said the big man wielding the whip. He had never encountered such a situation. Anyone else would have been wetting themselves in terror, but this guy hadn’t begged even once and was actually laughing. He was under orders to give this guy the most unbearable torture, but he found none of it was working; he could barely stand to look at the man, soaked as he was in foul sweat.

Another skinny man said, “He must be a lunatic, otherwise how could he not feel pain? Maybe his soul has left his body, and he can’t feel anything.”

Footsteps were heard as Ling Li walked in with Shi Xueqin.

Seeing the bloody figure with his trouser legs still dripping and his face full of beard, looking a decade older, Shi Xueqin felt a surge of pity.

“Bring another bucket, let me taste it again…” He could see clearly now, the girl right in front of him, someone he hadn’t seen for a month. She was still enchanting, pitiful, but her complexion wasn’t good; she must still be struggling.

The laughter stopped. He stared blankly at Shi Xueqin, then let out a hollow laugh, suddenly seeming a bit more sane. He hadn’t expected to see her again; this was a final consolation before death. He had always been uncertain about what to do because he had killed her father. As long as she remained unaware, a heavy shackle hung forever in his heart, suffocating him.

But today, he could let go, no longer needing to endure the agony, and he felt much lighter as he said, “Just kill me.”

For some reason, Shi Xueqin walked over and slapped him twice, “smack, smack”.

The Dragon Clan man hung on the iron frame as if dazed by the slaps, which seemed to cause more pain than any whip had inflicted on his body.

“Really, just kill me. Avenge your father. I hope that will make you feel a bit happier,” said the Dragon Clan man, unsure what else he could say. To truly die by her hand would be a respite.

“Why, why did you do this to me?” Shi Xueqin was already in tears.

“I’m sorry.” For the Dragon Clan man, who had never said these words before, this was the first time he had apologized.

Shi Xueqin pulled out a sword from Ling Li’s arms and raised it to strike down at the Dragon Clan man’s head. At that moment, he closed his eyes, utterly calm.

But Ling Li stopped her. He couldn’t let the Dragon Clan man die so easily; he wanted to wait for Su Zhanze to return, to find a way to extract all the martial power from him before killing him.

Even if Ling Li hadn’t rushed to stop Shi Xueqin, she wouldn’t have struck down anyway, because she couldn’t do it.

Ling Li said, “Junior Sister, does killing someone like him require your hands to get dirty? He wants a swift death; I refuse to grant it. He must be made to suffer the most.”

The Dragon Clan man opened his eyes, truly wishing the sword had come down. Then he would have been totally liberated, free from debt to the girl, and would have died deserving his fate.

“Junior Sister, sit down. Don’t be sad. This guy won’t live for much longer. When the time comes, we’ll flay his flesh, strip his skin, and then kill him.”

Shi Xueqin looked at the Dragon Clan man, feeling an indescribable sadness.

The Dragon Clan man smiled at the girl. She could have ended it with one strike, but she didn’t. What did that mean? It suggested she had feelings for him; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so distressed. But it was too late for regrets; he could only resent fate.

Ling Li approached the skinny man and asked, “Is the Dark Beast ready?”

“Hmm, just finished this morning.” He said and carefully took out a box from a cabinet in the corner. Clearly, the Dark Beast was inside the box. The skinny man continued, “The Dark Beast was in his body for too long, which is why it took us so long. But, our efforts have finally paid off.”

“Well done,” Ling Li said, carefully cradling the box, somewhat worried about opening it. Handled correctly, the Dark Beast would greatly aid in martial arts, but if mismanaged, it could lead to devastating consequences. He waved his hand, saying, “Don’t stop, keep the whipping going.”

The sound of the whip snapping crackled again, making one’s heart quiver. Shi Xueqin watched the familiar face, held back her tears, and looked into his eyes, fraught with conflict.

He was still him, never bending his head, no matter the circumstances. That was who he was.

Ling Li said, “Junior Sister, stop looking. This place is filthy.” As he spoke, he could smell the odor of a dead rat.

Shi Xueqin stood up and followed Ling Li out, asking, “When do you plan to kill him?”

Clutching the box, Ling Li replied, “We have to wait for Su Zhanze to return.”

Su Zhanze! So they were in cahoots with Su Zhanze, just as Ye Chen had suspected.

Ling Li explained, “Killing him is easy, but we want his internal power first. Without Su Zhanze’s help, it’s difficult to extract his martial arts. Su Zhanze is out on a mission.”

Still very surprised, Shi Xueqin asked, “How did you end up with Su Zhanze?”

Ling Li explained, “Junior Sister, I’ve thought about it. Dragon Slayer Island has been overrun. Relying on just the few of us, it would be difficult to even survive, let alone contend with the forces of the Demon Domain. We had to seek allies.”
