Chapter 1018 - 1018 1004 Portrait of Mother

Chapter 1018: Chapter 1004: Portrait of Mother Chapter 1018: Chapter 1004: Portrait of Mother “What should we do, tonight I am supposed to meet with him so we can kill Iron Chains together,” Nangong Yan said.

“Are you crazy? On this ship, you think you can kill Shao Hengjiang? It’s impossible. Do you even want to get off the ship?” Red Demonic Spirit asked, bewildered. He had heard that fewer than three people in the South Sea could match Shao Hengjiang’s martial arts.

“I plan to poison him, to drug him to death. That guy, he used the Water Dragon to sink the Cangqiong, he deserves to die.” Nangong Yan was afraid if she missed this opportunity, there wouldn’t be another one. She added, “Tonight, if we don’t poison him to death, we’ll lose our chance. By the time anyone notices, we’ll have already disembarked, so there won’t be any issues.”

“You really are a mad girl. Why do you have to be so competitive?” Red Demonic Spirit exclaimed, worried that she would ruin everything.

Nangong Yan had already figured everything out and knew which room belonged to Shao Hengjiang. Since Ye Chen’s martial arts were superior and he could provide support in case something went wrong, she wanted to invite him to join her. It seemed she couldn’t wait for the monkey to wake up. Shao Hengjiang, although currently drinking with a few brothers, could return to his room at any moment, and she must be ready to poison him then.

This was definitely a rare opportunity that could not be missed. Shao Hengjiang, the remorseless killer, must not live past tonight; she had to avenge the Cangqiong. She stood up, declaring, “Hey, never mind! I’ll go do it myself.”

Worried that the girl might get caught and expose them all if she really was apprehended, Red Demonic Spirit said as a precaution, “Fine, we’ll both go with you.”

“Really? That would be perfect,” Nangong Yan couldn’t have been happier, but still she asked, “Are the two of you skilled enough in martial arts?”

“Questioning our martial arts is a joke when your own is hardly better than a three-legged cat’s,” Black Demonic Spirit scoffed, having previously seen Nangong Yan’s martial arts aboard the Cangqiong.

Nangong Yan gave him a glare and then reopened the cabin door, glancing outside where the tumultuous sea beat against the ship’s side, seeming ever more violent in the night.

“Damned girl, why can’t you just bear it?” Red Demonic Spirit shook his head.

“I will not tolerate this villain; he has done too much evil. The Xiaoyao is set to dock tomorrow. If we don’t poison this guy tonight, we’ll miss a perfect chance.”

“Are you sure he’s not in his room?”

“I just checked; they’re over there drinking, not in the room. I only need to go in for a moment to poison him. It will be quick; I just need someone to distract the two guys at the door,” Nangong Yan explained.

She was fully prepared and ready to act.

“If you get caught, don’t expose us,” Red Demonic Spirit said, slightly irritated.

“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t treat my friends that way.”

“What a hassle.” Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit climbed onto Nangong Yan’s back.

Nangong Yan then tied on a black cloth.

The sea breeze was bleak, and the surroundings quieted down.

Nangong Yan quickly turned and soon arrived near Shao Hengjiang’s room. Two men stood like door gods outside the entrance. Nangong Yan called out, “Red Demonic Spirit, lead them away.”

Black Demonic Spirit darted out.

Black Demonic Spirit glanced at the two nearly-asleep men.

He made a noise and also emitted a few ghostly sounds. Sure enough, the two men were lured away by the noise. Nangong Yan, who was hiding in a corner, appeared and with lightning speed reached the door of Shao Hengjiang’s room.

As she pushed the door open, Red Demonic Spirit asked, “How are you planning to poison Iron Chains to death?”

“I just have to put poison in his tea. Once he drinks it, he’ll be poisoned to death,” she replied.

“You think you’re using Crane Crown Red Poison?”

“What about it? I am using Crane Crown Red Poison,” Nangong Yan said.

She saw the teapot on the table, took the powdered drug from her bosom, and poured it into the teapot. She then stirred it vigorously, ensuring it dissolved, and was about to leave when a painting on the wall in front of her caught her eye. The painting, three feet long and two feet wide and seemingly over a decade old, depicted a woman sitting in a chair, drinking tea.

The woman wore a golden hairpin and was dressed very lavishly. Her face bore a faint smile, enchanting and lifelike, as if she were about to come alive.

Seeing Nangong Yan standing still, not making a quick exit as if she were struck by lightning, Red Demonic Spirit asked, “What are you doing, girl?”

“How could my mother’s portrait be in his room?” She was utterly surprised but certain it was her mother’s painting.

“Did your mother have a romance with him?”

“What nonsense are you spouting?” Nangong Yan was stunned. The portrait was beautiful, and she was certain it was her mother. She could swear to it. But why would Shao Hengjiang have her mother’s portrait in his room? What could all this mean? The portrait was undoubtedly more beautiful than any in her house.

“Let’s hurry up and leave, or they’ll be back soon.”

“No, I must take this portrait down. How could my mother’s portrait hang in someone else’s room?” She had already climbed up to remove the portrait hanging on the wall, intending to ask her father about this bizarre situation later on.

Red Demonic Spirit had no choice but to let Nangong Yan do as she pleased.

With a click, somehow a bell was triggered, alerting the two men who had been searching outside for quite a while without finding anything. Upon bursting through the door, they shouted, “You little thief, you’ve got some nerve trying to steal from us.”

Nangong Yan had tied the scroll to her back, ready to leave.

The two burly men attacked her—tall and short, their martial arts were anything but simple. The taller man conveniently threw several poisoned darts at her. Bang, bang! She dodged two, but the darts hit a pillar; Red Demonic Spirit caught one of them.

Yet, Nangong Yan was blocked at the doorway.

Red Demonic Spirit threw a poison dart back, which the taller man avoided. Nangong Yan tried to break out, but the man grabbed the scroll attached to her back. Nangong Yan wouldn’t let him take it and delivered a palm strike that knocked his hand away. However, with a backhanded move, rather than grabbing the scroll, he grabbed Nangong Yan’s clothes, pulling her back before she could dodge.

Once again, she was cornered at the room’s entrance.

“You little thief, don’t think about escaping,” the tall man yelled.

Nangong Yan drew her sword and swung it forcefully, using the martial arts of Immortal Medicine Island to force him to retreat. Though the two henchmen were skilled in martial arts, they lacked weapons and were clearly at a disadvantage.

Red Demonic Spirit immediately tangled with the shorter man, shouting, “Girl, hurry and escape!” The commotion would soon draw the attention of others, and in this critical moment, they risked being captured.

Realizing the urgency, Nangong Yan used her sword to fend off the shorter man and make a break for it.

“Well, well, someone from the Immortal Medicine Sect managed to sneak onto our ship. You’re not getting away,” the taller man deduced, suspecting her martial arts to belong to the Immortal Medicine Sect. Fearing she would escape with the painting, he grabbed a chair and threw it at her.

Nangong Yan dodged swiftly, ducking as the chair crashed into the door, knocking down the scroll.

With a swish, the tall man blocked her path again, having pulled a knife from the wall. With one swift motion, he drew it and said, “Little girl, don’t even think about running. If you get away, how can I keep my reputation?”

Red Demonic Spirit had engaged the other man in combat. Although this man’s martial arts were formidable, he was still slightly inferior to Red Demonic Spirit.

“Somebody help!” the tall man began to shout. If the commotion alarmed the rest of the crew, none of them would escape.

At that moment, Black Demonic Spirit suddenly charged in from behind. With one palm strike, he sent the man blocking the doorway crashing into the wall, knocking him unconscious. He added impatiently, “Weren’t we supposed to be done by now?”

Red Demonic Spirit quickly used his ‘Demon Entanglement’ technique to disorient the shorter man. Taking him by surprise, he kicked him out, sending him sprawling to the ground with a heavy thud.

Nangong Yan picked up the scroll from the ground, but before they could reach the door, an imposing figure appeared in the doorway.

The man lying on the ground shouted, “Master, this girl has taken the painting!”

Shao Hengjiang noticed the painting that had hung on the wall was gone, likely strapped to her back.

Shao Hengjiang, despite his extensive experience, was shocked to see Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit and exclaimed, “How did Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit end up on my ship?”

Red Demonic Spirit tore up the wooden floorboards as if he were a fierce tiger pouncing on prey, launching an attack. However, a Light Wave blast sent him flying back. Black Demonic Spirit spread his wings, trying to cloud Shao Hengjiang’s vision like a rain cloud.

But beams of golden light repelled him back into his original form. Such tricks were no match for fooling Shao Hengjiang.

Nangong Yan unleashed her ‘Ice Sword Fills the sky’ technique, but before she could get close, it was dissipated with a single palm strike.

“A formidable opponent indeed,” Red Demonic Spirit remarked to Black Demonic Spirit, realizing the rumors about Shao Hengjiang being one of the three greatest masters in the South Sea must be true.

“I’ve been looking for a way to enhance my power, and it seems fate has answered,” Shao Hengjiang muttered to himself.

Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit were greatly startled.

They both unleashed their ultimate moves and combined into a giant dragon, but Shao Hengjiang remained unfazed, standing firm at the doorway like a guardian deity, confident of victory.

Armed with lightning strikes, he blasted toward them. An Energy Barrier materialized like a shield, blocking the lightning fiercely. Following that, a sweeping force shattered the barrier in an instant. Nangong Yan, Black Demonic Spirit, and Red Demonic Spirit were all sent flying backward, crashing into a wooden table behind them. The tea laced with Crane Crown Red Poison, which had been set on the table, spilled onto the floor.

Nangong Yan watched as the teapot and the tea spilled onto the ground and bubbled continuously.

Shao Hengjiang mistakenly believed they had come to poison him and declared, “You came to poison me.”

In that moment, the atmosphere became charged with murderous intent.
