Chapter 629: Chapter 628 [Whispers Between Grandfather and Grandson]

[PS: Bringing the second update today. Please tip!!!]

"Grandpa, why don’t we just leave now? After all, we’ve left some assets for Uncle, Aunt Three, and Aunt Four. They don’t want to leave the U.S. With the shares in Ling Group they have, I believe the U.S. government, those robbers, won’t give them too hard a time!"

Ling Yuxun realized something wasn’t quite right. She wasn’t unintelligent; rather, her heart was too kind. She could never imagine that her own relatives, her uncle, Aunt Three, and Aunt Four, would be willing to harm her at a critical moment. In fact, they had grown to despise both her and her father, Ling Yue. They just hadn’t had the opportunity, but given the chance, they would have killed both her and her father long ago.

Now, hearing Old Master Ling, Ling Shuanghe, speak as if he were settling his affairs, Ling Yuxun grew nervous all of a sudden. Her grandfather had always adored her, and their bond was truly strong. That’s why Ling Yuxun hoped that Old Master Ling, Ling Shuanghe, could return to China with her to fulfill the lifelong wishes of an old man who, having lived past seventy, did not know how much time he had left.

"Yuxun, you’re oversimplifying things. Let’s not even talk about those robbers in the U.S., there are also people within Ling Group who don’t want to see me leave alive, including your uncle, Aunt Three, and Aunt Four..." Old Master Ling stopped mid-sentence, unwilling to believe his own children could be so unfilial, yet he had to consider it. As someone who once stood tall and achieved such great heights, Old Master Ling always took every aspect into account when deliberating matters.

In fact, Old Master Ling might not have said much outwardly, but he had already made arrangements behind the scenes. To relocate Ling Group’s assets back to China, he had been preparing slowly from long ago, not expecting the U.S. government to react so strongly. Nor had he foreseen such despicable and shameless tactics from these robbers. Old Master Ling realized that this might be the only chance to transfer Ling Group’s assets back to China. After this, it would be even more difficult; there might not be any chance at all.

Therefore, he did not hesitate to stay in the Ling family mansion in the U.S., deceiving those robbers in the U.S. government while sending his most trusted son, Ling Yue, to China first to establish a foundation and gradually transfer Ling Group’s assets. However, the U.S. robbers moved quickly, and most of Ling Group’s assets couldn’t be transferred without certain procedures approved by the U.S. government. Of course, this wasn’t absolute. A government that must proclaim its absolute democracy could gain some support and advocacy in this regard, but it also faced some restrictions, at least not blatantly preventing Ling Group’s transfer. Otherwise, it would cause panic among other large enterprises, which might secretly relocate as well. Hence, the U.S. government resorted to putting Old Master Ling under house arrest. As long as Old Master Ling was unable to leave the Ling family estate, many decisions and actions of Ling Group could not be conducted, particularly on fundamental matters like a major asset transfer. Without Old Master Ling, it would be impossible. If Old Master Ling were to die, the deciding factor would then be the corporate seal. If it weren’t for the U.S. government failing to get their hands on the seal, they might have killed Old Master Ling already.

This time, Old Master Ling left fifty percent of Ling Group’s assets to his eldest son, Ling Yuyang, his third daughter, Ling Xia, and his fourth daughter, Ling Qing. There remained an issue that needed to be considered, wanting to lower the vigilance of the U.S. government, his three children were intent on staying and continuing their development in the U.S. With fifty percent of the assets remaining there, the draw was still significant.

"It can’t be, Grandpa! Uncle, Aunt Three, and Aunt Four are our family. We’ve lived together since we were young. If they want to stay and develop in the U.S., that’s just a personal preference. They would never harm us!" Ling Yuxun said in disbelief.

"I hope that’s true, and Grandpa wishes it were so. But, Yuxun, some things are not as simple as you think. No matter what, Grandpa doesn’t want anything to happen to you. You’re young, not yet married; do you understand?" Old Master Ling said earnestly, looking deeply at his granddaughter, Ling Yuxun.

"Grandpa, I don’t want anything to happen to you. I want you to go back to China with me!" Ling Yuxun said with tears in her beautiful eyes.

"Yuxun, you must remember what I’ve told you, every single word I just spoke!"

Beep beep beep... Right after Old Master Ling finished speaking, an alarm sounded throughout the study. He quickly stood up and instructed Ling Yuxun to open all the curtains; a minute had passed. Old Master Ling took one last look at Ling Yuxun, sighed, and knew that this might be the last time he spoke his heart out alone with his granddaughter.

Ling Yuxun wanted to say something more, but she was stopped by Old Master Ling’s gaze. She wiped the tears from her eyes and followed Old Master Ling out of the study, not knowing what to do or who to turn to for advice. Yet, she steeled her resolve, determined to ensure her grandfather’s safe arrival in China, without leaving behind any regrets.

When Old Master Ling and Ling Yuxun reached the hall, two individuals appeared: Bao Tianglong and Li San. They had arrived at the Ling family estate earlier, entered quietly, and made their purpose clear to Old Master Ling and Ling Yuxun. Thus, Bao Tianglong and Li San stayed close to protect the grandfather and granddaughter. As for Hu Long, Wang Jie, Zhang Tian, Zhang Di, and Lin Duan, those five men were guarding the perimeter of the Ling family estate, vigilant against any skilled attackers sent by the U.S. robbers from outside, and also against any assassins that might have infiltrated the estate intending to kill Old Master Ling. The reason the U.S. government had not yet assassinated Old Master Ling was firstly due to their confidence in their own strength, and secondly, because it would save a lot of unnecessary trouble if Old Master Ling decided to continue developing in the U.S.

"Old Master Ling, we lost track of you and your granddaughter earlier, so we came in to check!" Bao Tianglong said seriously.

"Oh, I just had some words to say alone with my granddaughter, sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience!" Ling Shuanghe also nodded and spoke.

"Old Master Ling, I hope such situations won’t arise in the future. Although it seems there is nothing wrong within the Ling family estate on the surface, and the M country government bunch of robbers hasn’t made a move against you, the longer it goes on, the greater the undercurrents grow. We are here to protect you, and we hope you and your granddaughter will cooperate more with us!" Li San also said.

"Protecting us? Whether or not we can trust you is another matter. You say Ye Tianchen sent you? Why? What’s his purpose? Does he even have the capability? And he hasn’t shown up until now, how can I believe this?" Ling Shuanghe spat out all the doubts in his heart in one breath.

Ling Shuanghe had seen all sorts of things to have reached the level he was at today. His trust in Li San and his colleagues was limited, after all, as he had never met them and had only heard what they said. Even if his granddaughter Ling Yuxun trusted them a lot, Ling Shuanghe was very cautious and did not trust Li San and his team that much.

"Hehe, it doesn’t matter if you don’t trust us, Old Master Ling. We are merely following Brother Ye Tianchen’s orders to protect you. Protecting you and Miss Ling Yuxun is our mission, as for everything else, once our brother arrives, you will understand everything!" Li San said with an indifferent smile.

Ling Shuanghe glanced at Li San and Bao Tianglong, picked up the teacup on the coffee table to drink tea, and said no more. Li San and Bao Tianglong also stepped out of the hall; they didn’t want to disturb the household any further. Given Ling Shuanghe’s distrust, if it hadn’t been for Brother Ye Tianchen’s orders, they wouldn’t have bothered to come at all, so they now headed towards the door.

That moment, Ling Yuxun glanced at Ling Shuanghe, then said softly, "Grandfather, I’ll go get you something to eat, it’s getting late!"

"Mmm, Yuxun, even though you told me Ye Tianchen is a good person, your grandpa has never seen him with his own eyes. If I can live to see Ye Tianchen, I will definitely investigate thoroughly for you. To become my grandson-in-law, Ling Shuanghe, is not that easy!" Ling Shuanghe said with a smile.

"Grandfather... I understand, I’ll go make you something to eat now!" Ling Yuxun said with a gentle smile.

After leaving the grand hall, Ling Yuxun quickly caught up with Li San and Bao Tianglong and said in a low apologetic tone, "Brother Li, Brother Bao, please don’t be upset, my grandfather is old, and as you know, the Ling family has encountered significant troubles this time, so he’s very distressed. Please don’t take it to heart!"

Li San and Bao Tianglong turned around and saw it was Ling Yuxun; of course, they felt a little embarrassed to look so stern. Considering how anxious Brother Ye Tianchen had been, although they knew coming to M country New York this time would be troublesome and without any benefit, everyone guessed that Ye Tianchen must have some feelings for Ling Yuxun. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have acted this way. So, Ling Yuxun really might become their sister-in-law, and they didn’t want to be too rigid.

"Miss Ling, our brother specifically instructed us to come protect you and your grandfather, so please rest assured, we have no ill intentions. Our sole mission is to ensure the safety of you and your grandfather!" Bao Tianglong said with a smile.

"Thank you, Brother Bao, thank you, Brother Li. May I ask if Tianchen has already arrived in New York? Why hasn’t he come yet?" Ling Yuxun asked with concern and urgency.

"Oh, that, our brother might arrive a bit late due to some matters; Miss Ling, you don’t need to worry!" Bao Tianglong pondered a moment before saying.

"Alright, then if Tianchen arrives, please notify me at once..." Ling Yuxun spoke.
