"Since that’s the case, it’s up to you. Don’t get involved in the matter between the Bei Chen Swordsmanship and the Ling family!" the highest-ranking leader said after glancing at Man Tian.
Initially, the highest-ranking leader had thought that although Ye Tianchen was unreliable, he was a young man with great potential—strong for his age, prudent in action, not a bad person, yet he possessed a fierce determination and was capable of making resolute decisions. If such a talent could be employed by the country, it would be incredibly fortunate. That’s why he had Man Tian come, to observe Ye Tianchen, in hopes of bringing him into the ranks of the Heavenly Gang War Generals. This would be a significant infusion of fresh blood into their forces.
Who knew that Ye Tianchen would disdain the help of the Heavenly Gang War Generals, which greatly irked Man Tian. He also looked down on Ye Tianchen and wanted to find an opportunity to teach him a lesson. The highest-ranking leader knew that if he gave the word, Man Tian would bring Ye Tianchen into the ranks of the Heavenly Gang despite his great reluctance.
However, doing so would likely cause trouble within the ranks, a loss that wasn’t worth the potential gain. It was better to let things take their natural course!
Man Tian, the Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Gang War Generals, was a terrifyingly powerful figure. There were rumors that Man Tian had once fought with one of the top ten strongest people on Earth, a living Buddha from the Tibetan region. The outcome of that battle was unknown to all, and Man Tian himself had never mentioned it. Those in the know were aware that after the battle with the living Buddha, Man Tian had spent a full year recuperating before resuming his duties leading the Heavenly Gang War Generals.
No one knew how many lives and how much blood of villains Man Tian had on his hands. He was someone of immense strength and also had a fiery temper. For many years, no one dared to look down on the Heavenly Gang War Generals. Even the elite special forces of Country M, powerful beyond imagination, would never belittle the Heavenly Gang War Generals. Ye Tianchen, a mere twenty years old, disdainful of the war generals’ help—how could this not infuriate Man Tian?
If the highest-ranking leader hadn’t thought so highly of Ye Tianchen, Man Tian would probably have already sent someone to teach Ye Tianchen a lesson. Of course, he wouldn’t do it himself because he didn’t think highly enough of Ye Tianchen, deeming this arrogant youngster unworthy of his personal attention.
"Commander, are you certain that the Heavenly Gang War General troops should not intervene? Just relying on that arrogant kid, can he really handle the group from the Bei Chen Swordsmanship? And the matter of the Ling family is also connected to Country M. There might even be a need to deal with it over in Country M. Leaving it to this kid alone, if things go awry, it could become unmanageable!" Man Tian said respectfully.
"Use those whom you trust; don’t mistrust those whom you use. Since I’ve already agreed to let this kid handle it, let him do it," the commander thought for a moment before responding.
"Understood commander, I’ll go handle my tasks!" Man Tian said, a bit taken aback.
The commander nodded, saying nothing. As Man Tian reached the door of the office, he paused, turning back respectfully. After a moment’s hesitation, he couldn’t help but say, "Commander, if Ye Tianchen continues to insult our Heavenly Gang War General troops, I will take action to teach him a lesson when necessary!"
"Do as you please," the commander said indifferently.
"Thank you, commander!" Man Tian bit his teeth fiercely as he spoke.
Watching Man Tian leave the office and close the door behind him, the commander’s mouth couldn’t help but show a hint of a smile. Although this time he hadn’t managed to get Man Tian to approve of Ye Tianchen and bring him into the ranks of the Heavenly Gang War Generals, he knew that with Man Tian’s explosive temper, he wouldn’t let things rest. Ye Tianchen had kicked the iron plate, but it remained to be seen whether his foot was hard enough or the iron plate was harder. There was still a good story to come; it depended on how Man Tian and Ye Tianchen would perform.
Ye Tianchen and Hei Mian stepped out of the commander’s office building, oblivious to the fact that Man Tian, the Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Gang War Generals, was already quite displeased with him and might possibly send someone to teach him a lesson.
Along the way, Ye Tianchen was chatting with Hei Mian in a very relaxed manner, which struck Hei Mian as odd. What time was it? The many masters of the Bei Chen Swordsmanship were on the attack, and the Ling family had been severely struck in their attempt to relocate back to the country, suffering numerous casualties. Apart from Ling Yuxun and her father Ling Yue escaping, everyone else from the Ling family who had returned to the country first had perished, even Yuxun’s own brother died in the attack. The entire Ling Mansion had been blasted to the heavens—how could it not be a tragedy?
"You’re not worried at all? You’re not afraid of the people from the Bei Chen Swordsmanship attacking? You’re not concerned about the people from the Ling family?" Hei Mian couldn’t help but ask.
Hearing Hei Mian’s words, Ye Tianchen simply looked at him with an expression that suggested asking such a question was indicative of a worryingly low intelligence.
"What’s the use of worrying? Now that even you guys don’t know where the people from North Star One Sword School are, it indicates that they are hiding very well. Blindly sending people to search for them would just exhaust our manpower and put us in an increasingly passive situation. It might be better to wait for someone from North Star One Sword School to show up at our doorstep. As for the Ling family, everything else has nothing to do with me. As long as I know Ling Yuxun is okay, that’s all that matters. Now I’m just going with you to take a look out of relief!"
"You... I bet once you see Ling Yuxun and her father, you won’t be speaking so casually!" Hei Mian shook his head and said.
"What? What’s happened to Ling Yuxun? Is she injured? Why wouldn’t you take her to the hospital for treatment?"
Ye Tianchen became uncontrollably anxious, hurriedly questioning Hei Mian. Ling Yuxun and Tianchen had grown up together, like childhood sweethearts, their friendship could be said to be one of those where they shared everything with each other. And Tianchen could naturally feel Ling Yuxun’s affection for him. He was no Don Juan and had no desire to be one. In his previous lonely life, he simply wanted, in this life, not to leave regrets, to be true to those who had been good to him.
"Oh, it looks like you get anxious too, huh? How come your face has turned so red?" Hei Mian, seeing Tianchen so anxious, immorally teased him with a laugh.
"I don’t care if my face is red; it’s still a hundred times more handsome than your black face!" Ye Tianchen said, quite annoyed.
"I’ll tell you the truth, Ling Yuxun is fine. It’s her father that’s disabled. His right hand was completely shattered by Sword Energy, beyond reattachment, and is now useless!" Hei Mian said sullenly, glancing at Ye Tianchen.
"That has nothing to do with me. As long as Ling Yuxun is fine, that’s all that matters!" Ye Tianchen said earnestly.
Hei Mian shook his head, thinking to himself that Tianchen was obviously very concerned about Ling Yuxun. It seemed that the relationship between them was good, so why did he appear so indifferent toward Ling Yuxun’s father, Ling Yue? Logic suggested that with his father-in-law encountering difficulty, it would be a prime time for a son-in-law to step up. Yet, Tianchen showed no intention of doing so. What was he thinking?
In a place like this, reserved for the country’s top leaders, of course, every facility was complete, including a medical team that served the highest leaders of the nation. Their medical skills were top-notch worldwide, and the medical equipment they used were also of world-class standards. The Ling family, being the largest overseas Chinese family with strong economic power, wouldn’t have garnered such reaction from Country M upon hearing the possibility of them moving back home; they wouldn’t have tried all means, through threats and inducements, to prevent it if that wasn’t the case. Of course, such news was also highly valued by China’s top echelons. How could they not protect the patriot’s heart of returning overseas compatriots?
Moreover, if the Ling family truly relocated back to China, it would signify a tremendous boost to China’s economy, playing an integral role. That’s why the national leadership was quite concerned, constantly sending protection. However, they couldn’t be too obvious, as that would only affect international relations. They would definitely not allow the Ling family’s situation to lead to a catastrophe for all citizens. There would naturally be limits.
After Ling Yuxun and her father, Ling Yue, were rescued by Hei Mian and others, Ling Yue was severely injured, so they urgently sent both Ling Yuxun and Ling Yue to this hospital. Ling Yue’s death could potentially affect the Ling family’s plan to return to the homeland. Even though Old Master Ling was still in Country M, China couldn’t guarantee unfettered operation on Country M’s soil. If Country M shamelessly killed Old Master Ling, then all would be for naught, especially since among Ling Yue’s siblings, some did not agree with the move back to the homeland.
Ye Tianchen followed behind Hei Mian to this exclusive hospital for the nation’s top leaders. Security was certainly strict here, and regular folks couldn’t get in. When Hei Mian pushed open a ward door, Tianchen saw Ling Yuxun guarding the bedside. Her clothes were somewhat dirty and torn, and her eyes were bloodshot, her face haggard, indicating the girl had indeed suffered significant physical and emotional harm.
On the bed guarded by Ling Yuxun was a middle-aged man with a completely severed right arm. His arm wrapped in bandages, receiving intravenous fluids, his vital functions were constantly monitored. However, it seemed his complexion was not too dire, other than the ruined right hand, and his body didn’t appear to have sustained other injuries.
"Tianchen... Tianchen..."
When Ling Yuxun saw Ye Tianchen, she couldn’t control her emotions. She stood up from the bedside and hugged Tianchen tightly, beginning to cry with sobs.
Being confined at home over the years made Ling Yuxun long for Tianchen even more. Last night, as her home was attacked, leaving numerous dead or injured, she witnessed her own brother and Old Lady Ku die right before her eyes. Ling Yuxun wept with heart-wrenching cries to no avail, followed by the pursuit of the North Star One Sword School experts. Thankfully, Hei Mian arrived in time with reinforcements; otherwise, she and her father would have been dead as well. Her inner pain was indescribable. (To be continued.
