Chapter 221: Chapter 221: The Villager
After steaming for a while, Peter Brown went to eat something and then came to the resting room to rest. Peter didn’t plan to go back to the dormitory tonight and would just spend the night here. This place was quite nice. Lying here, he ordered a cup of tea and watched the song and dance performance on the stage in front.
The dancers were all youthful girls, wearing very little clothing, each dancing vigorously, which made Peter secretly enjoy the show.
While watching, Peter turned on a TV beside the bed, which also had many programs on it.
In fact, it was Peter’s first time in such a place. He had heard a lot about it while in prison, and now that he was experiencing it firsthand, he was filled with curiosity about everything.
"Sir, would you like a massage?"
At this moment, he heard a voice next to his ear.
When Peter turned his head to look, he was somewhat stunned, "Sydney!"
Hearing this name, the woman looked at him, also somewhat stunned, "Peter, how come you’re here?"
To Peter’s surprise, this beautiful woman turned out to be Evelyn Thompson, Greyson Smith’s daughter from Flower Creek Village, who was said to have made a fortune in the provincial capital and occasionally sent money back.
"I didn’t expect you to be working here!"
Peter felt like he had unexpectedly encountered an old acquaintance.
Hearing Peter’s words, Evelyn showed an unnatural expression on her face and said, "This is not a place to talk."
Seeing that people were already looking over, Peter nodded and said, "Find a room, and we can talk."
After hesitating for a moment, Evelyn nodded slightly and led Peter to a room.
"Um... I heard that if you go to a room, you have to pay. How much should I pay?"
Peter had heard from his fellow inmates in prison that such transactions were actually carried out under various pretexts, so he hesitated as he spoke.
"No need."
As soon as she entered the room, Evelyn sat down on the bed and said, "Now you know what I’m doing, right? Do you look down on me for it?"
Peter hurriedly waved his hand and said, "No, no, as long as you earn money through your own efforts, no one will look down on you!"
Evelyn was actually a middle school classmate of Peter’s. After middle school, she dropped out and went to work outside the village with some other villagers. They hadn’t seen each other ever since. Now that they met again as old classmates, Peter was also very curious about her current situation.
"I’m a rural person with only a middle school education. When I went to the big city, how could I find a job? Many industries simply wouldn’t hire middle school graduates. When I arrived in the provincial capital, I worked in a small factory. Later, the factory went bankrupt, and I found several workshops, but none of them worked out. Then, at my sisters’ persuasion, I gritted my teeth and entered this line of work."
Peter nodded and said, "That’s right. It’s really hard to find a job nowadays. It’s quite difficult to be able to support oneself."
"As long as a woman is open-minded, it’s not difficult to survive. Isn’t it just letting men sleep with you? Even if you get married, it’s still your destiny to be slept with. I’ve come to terms with it, as long as I can survive."
While speaking, Evelyn took out a cigarette, lit it, and started smoking.
Looking at this girl who had been quiet and timid in class, now seemingly changed like a new person, Peter sighed. Society really did change people a lot.
"Are you going to live like this for the rest of your life?" Peter asked.
After taking a fierce puff of her cigarette, Evelyn suddenly laughed, "Men are all alike. Some act like hypocrites when it comes to this sort of thing, while others are very bold. Some need guidance. I’ve got to say old classmate, I couldn’t tell what you were like back in school. You probably were more of the repressed type. Since you’re here today, let me give you a massage."
Seeing Evelyn’s half-smile, Peter sighed, "To be honest, you’re completely different from when you were in class. I’m almost unrecognizable."
"Is it because I’ve become more open? Haha, people are bound to change, especially after seeing too many men. I’ve really changed, and I can’t even find my old self anymore!"
While speaking, she said to Peter, "My technique is not bad, whether it’s clean or not, it’s up to you. Anyway, doing it with anyone is the same."
"Aren’t you afraid of getting sick?"
"Don’t worry. We get checked regularly, so there won’t be any problems."
Peter stopped her advances and said seriously, "We’re not only from the same village, but we’re also old classmates. Let’s be honest, working in this place is not a long-term solution. Have you ever thought about your future?"
"Sigh!"
After a long sigh, Evelyn fell silent for a while before saying, "Do you really think we don’t have any supervision in this line of work? Once you’re in, it’s very difficult to get out. There are forces in the provincial capital that you don’t know about. If I were to leave them, I’d probably disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow."
There was such a thing!
Peter was truly shocked, sitting there looking at Evelyn.
"I advise you not to ask too much. It’s easy to get into trouble. Their power is so great that it’s not something you, a farmer, can provoke."
After inquiring for a while, Peter finally got a rough idea of the situation. There was a huge power called the Fierce Axe Gang, which even Evelyn wasn’t very clear about. All she knew was that there was a man named Flower Master above her, under whom many people belonged to and managed. If anyone didn’t obey, Flower Master would use terrifying means to retaliate. Evelyn had personally witnessed one of her sisters being dismembered in a cruel way, and nobody had ever come to inquire about the matter.
When Peter heard this, he already had the idea of eliminating the Fierce Axe Gang.
However, he couldn’t really get any more information about them from Evelyn. All he knew was that they were very much afraid of the Fierce Axe Gang.
Hiding his own thoughts, Peter didn’t say anything to Evelyn. He just chatted with her for a while and exchanged cell phone numbers with her.
"Peter, I’m usually free during the day. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime."
After their conversation, Evelyn let go of her inhibitions, no longer caring about her own occupation.
"Alright, I’m currently studying at the Provincial Medical University. There’s plenty of time. I’ll contact you."
"You’re studying at university? I thought you went to prison?"
Actually, the main reason why Evelyn could talk to Peter was that she knew he had also been in prison. Now that she heard Peter was in college, she was truly astonished. She looked Peter up and down with wide eyes before laughing, "You’re really hilarious. I really didn’t see it coming back then."
