Chapter 1761: Chapter 1759: The Struggle Within the Prefectural City

"Peter, how do you like this small courtyard?" Camden Jones led Peter Brown to a small courtyard just outside the prefectural city, smiling as he asked.

Peter looked at the courtyard and was very pleased. Not only was it quiet, but it also had its own unique Heaven and Earth. It wasn’t just suitable for him alone—several families could live there without any problems.

"It’s too big."

"Heh, this is on the County Princess’s orders. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. Not only did you save the County Princess, you saved our lives too. Consider it a token of my gratitude, brother. Let us get closer in the future."

"Then thank you, brother. I’ll treat you to a meal and some wine."

"Heh, I can’t today. I just got back, and there’s too much to do. Let’s do it another day."

A thought struck Peter, and he said, "Brother, I wonder where our Honorable Magistrate will be staying. I’d like to pay him a visit."

Upon hearing this, Camden’s face revealed an indescribable sentiment as he said, "Little brother, it’s not that I don’t want to remind you, but it’s better if you stay away from that man. You belong to the County Princess."

Peter was nobody’s fool. He had seen too much, and he understood the implication immediately. He guessed that the Mansion wasn’t peaceful, so he nodded vigorously and said, "After all, he is my former Superior. I should pay him a visit."

Camden smiled and said, "It’s good to see someone who values relationships like you do, little brother."

After Camden left, Peter stood there, lost in thought. From Camden’s words, he had gleaned many things. The battle for power within the County Governor’s Mansion seemed fierce. Perhaps there was an inside story to the County Princess’s ambush. It was said that the daughter of the County Magistrate was the County Governor’s concubine, which suggested that the concubine and the County Princess were not on the same side.

What a headache!

Originally, Peter had planned to directly pledge allegiance to the County Magistrate, but now, having saved the County Princess, and having agreed to her request to become a personal guard, the County Princess had shown him such generosity. If he didn’t claim allegiance to the County Princess, nobody would believe it. But would the County Magistrate and his daughter look favorably upon him now?

Shaking his head, Peter wasn’t too optimistic about the County Magistrate’s feelings toward him. Taking his Flying Car, he left the place. The County Magistrate had given him an empty promise, and probably never thought Peter would return alive. Thus, there wasn’t much attachment between them. Siding with the County Princess seemed like the correct choice.

Moreover, another concern was that if the people who ambushed the County Princess belonged to a faction within the Mansion, his act of saving her would undoubtedly invite their wrath, and actions against him would be sure to follow.

The more he thought about it, the more Peter felt the need to increase his cultivation.

However, based on what he had learned, even the highest cultivation in the County Governor’s Mansion probably wouldn’t surpass the Martial Marshal Level. His Crystal Core Gun’s maximum damage was against the Martial Marshal level, so he still felt relatively safe.

After thinking it through seriously for a while, Peter decided that he still needed to visit the County Magistrate and clarify things.

Finding the residence of the County Magistrate, Micah White, was quite easy. After asking a few people, Peter arrived outside Micah White’s Mansion.

At first glance, Peter noticed that Micah White’s residence was indeed much larger than the small courtyard allocated to him, likely because his daughter had become the County Governor’s concubine. The entrance was even guarded.

Having a beautiful daughter certainly had its perks. This sly old fox seemed to have avoided any punishment upon his return.

Taking this in, Peter said to the doorman, "Please announce that Peter Brown from Sunny County requests an audience."

"Sunny County?"

The doorman was clever enough to know that Sunny County was no ordinary place, and that a visitor from there was sure to be seen by the County Magistrate. He said, "Wait here a moment."

Peter didn’t have to wait long before Kane Nelson hurried out to meet him.

Upon seeing that it was indeed Peter, Kane’s eyes revealed shock, as he too had not expected Peter to make it back alive.

"It is you! How is Sunny County?" he asked as he led Peter inside.

Once they reached a parlor., Micah White too looked at Peter, surprised, and said, "You really made it out of Sunny County."

"Greetings, My Lord."

"Sit down and we’ll talk."

No sooner had Peter sat down than Micah exclaimed, "You’ve reached the Martial Master Level!"

Kane also looked at Peter, equally astonished, and said, "You’ve upgraded so fast."

Peter replied, "It’s all thanks to some life-saving items I brought from the Lower Realm. During the defense battle, I killed some enemies and received continuous Heavenly Rewards. After the Count Captain fled, we all dispersed, and I managed to escape in the chaos. On the road, I used a weapon from the Lower Realm to kill a high-ranking officer of the General Level, saved the County Princess, and was taken into her personal guards. After killing the officer of the General Level, I received another reward from the Heavenly Will, which led to my promotion."

Peter knew these details would be investigated even if he remained silent, so he chose to divulge them, subtly indicating his affiliation with the County Princess.

"What kind of Weapon was that?" Micah inquired, clearly intrigued by the weapon, and somewhat regretful he hadn’t acquired such a Weapon himself.

Peter said, "You claimed that items from the Lower Realm would only last three days. Surprisingly, they lasted beyond that. I fired the Weapon when we rescued the County Princess, but in front of her, all items from the Lower Realm disintegrated. Now I can’t produce that kind of Weapon anymore."

Micah found this explanation plausible, thinking it reasonable for the items to collapse, and nodded slightly, saying, "There might have been a delay, but collapse is normal."

"Why is that Weapon so Awesome? How was it made?" Kane, very interested in the matter, pressed for information.

Peter shook his head and replied, "I don’t understand the matter. I just purchased it for use. People specifically study the Technology of the Lower Realm. I focus on Cultivation."

Kane sighed and said, "What a pity. If we knew how to make it, perhaps we could change everything here."

"It’s probably not that simple; the rules of both places are completely different," Peter pointed out.

Micah looked at Peter and said, "I didn’t expect the County Princess to recruit you, but that’s good. Do your job well."

Turning to Kane, he continued, "Now that Peter has reached the Martial Master Level, you two should cooperate more."

To what appeared to be a steward, he ordered, "Peter saved my life. Accompany him to the market to purchase some attendants. The costs are on me."

The steward respectfully assented.
