Chapter 1619: Chapter 1618: The Wind Shifts Again

Today’s meeting saw the adjustment of quite a few people, but none of those changes caught much attention. What truly baffled everyone was the sudden promotion of Peter Brown. The complete shift in Rylan Williams’s attitude was utterly incomprehensible.

"Wasn’t it said that Peter was about to be unlucky?"

Nobody could figure it out.

After the meeting dispersed, Peter’s office suddenly became bustling with activity, an unprecedented level of liveliness that the two beauties in the office couldn’t adapt to. They hadn’t attended the meeting and were unaware of what had happened.

Just moments ago, the two women had been arguing over Peter’s situation. Hearing everyone energetically calling him Director Peter, both were taken aback and looked at him in astonishment.

"Director Brown, you’ll have to treat us this time," said Section Chief Alexander Greenhill, who had also retained his position, now looking at Peter with a mixture of emotions.

"Sure, whatever you all want to eat, it’s on me," responded Peter, displaying a generous demeanor.

Instantly, everyone became excited.

People were reluctant to leave for a long time, but Peter had no intention of accompanying them. He hurriedly said, "I’m going to see Mr. Williams," and left the office.

"What’s with Director Brown?" Imogan Jones asked, puzzled.

Alexander Greenhill replied, "He’s now an official director. In the meeting just now, Peter was promoted to director."

These were all well-informed individuals who had been eagerly gathering information. Speaking frankly, when Alexander Greenhill heard Rylan Williams propose Peter as director, he thought he had misheard. However, the situation turned out to be as bizarre as it was, leaving everyone in the dark.

While there was discussion about Peter’s situation, Peter himself had arrived at Rylan Williams’s office.

Upon entering, Peter expressed his respect and gratitude, "Thank you, Mr. Williams."

After a glance at Peter, Rylan Williams smiled and said, "Just do a good job."

"Rest assured, manager, I will report to you promptly about the branch’s affairs."

What Rylan Williams wanted was exactly that attitude. He smiled and said, "Good that you understand. I’m often away from the office, so keep a close watch."

After saying this, Rylan Williams added, "You all have plans to go out tonight, right? I won’t join you. Have a good time."

While they were talking, Henry Carter also sat in his office with a smile on his face, his fingers lightly tapping the desk. After a while, Carter became even more convinced that Peter indeed had a powerful backer in the province.

Based on Henry Carter’s understanding of Rylan Williams, he considered him to be a young master type. Although the conflict between Williams and Peter wasn’t significant, Peter had managed to undermine Williams’s dignity. It made no sense for Williams to let Peter off the hook without reason. Given what had transpired today, there was only one explanation: someone powerful was supporting Peter from behind.

Indeed, a deep cover!

Reflecting on this, Henry Carter felt reassured that his decision to show goodwill to Peter had been the right move.

It wasn’t just Henry Carter who held such an opinion. Far away in the provincial capital, Henry Ford also learned about the incident as soon as it happened. Hearing the circumstances, a mysterious smile appeared on Ford’s face as he mused to himself, "The kid knows how to work people!"

Henry Ford thought of Peter Brown, who had specifically sought his advice before visiting Rylan Williams. He figured the kid was decent in personality and conduct, whether or not he had someone backing him. If he could lend Peter a hand now, he would; you never know when it might cast a favorable light on oneself.

With that in mind, Henry planned to give Peter a pleasant surprise. Without a high level of education, he could not do much, but it was possible to help him get a technical secondary school graduation certificate. It was just a transitional solution, right?

Henry picked up the phone and started dialing.

When Peter returned to the office after seeing off Rylan Williams, he noticed that there were more people in the office than before. Everyone stayed, and those who heard the news also arrived.

At that moment, Leah Nelson’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Peter. She realized she had bet on the right person this time; while no one else had faith in Peter, she had supported him. Now she could live a bit more comfortably in this office.

"Director, where should we go for the meal? I’ll reserve it," Leah said, seeing Peter’s smiling face and knowing he would definitely treat everyone today.

"You reserve it, and we’ll head over," Peter replied, now one of the higher-ranking members of the middle management, wanting to exhibit his aura.

Leah then picked up the phone and started making the call.

The Integrated Office always had its designated restaurants. One call and everything was settled. After hanging up, she said to Peter, "Considering the situation, we need at least two tables, so I booked two."

Peter didn’t mind and just nodded slightly.

At that moment, Henry Carter walked in and said, "I heard you are planning to take advantage of Director Wang. That won’t do. Since it is a company matter, let the company handle it. Let’s just book four tables and call all the middle management for a gathering."

Since Henry Carter had said so, Peter turned to Leah, "Call the middle management leaders."

When Leah saw that Peter was instructing her and not Imogen Jones, she stole a glance at Imogen, feeling somewhat triumphant inside.

Thinking that latching onto an assistant manager was impressive? In this subsidiary, in terms of real power, the assistant manager probably doesn’t wield as much as the head of the Integrated Office.

"Ha ha, what fun," Azrael Richardson, the assistant manager, said with a smile as he walked in.

"Manager Harrison, Mr. Carter just mentioned we should have a gathering. Perfect timing with your arrival," Peter quickly said to Azrael Richardson.

Then, Azrael Richardson said with a smile, "Great, let’s have a few drinks."

Azrael Richardson wasn’t actually in the best of moods today. During the meeting, Rylan Williams had been a bit too domineering. In the reshuffle, his people were unexpectedly relocated to some lukewarm units. Truth be told, Azrael was the person who suffered the most in this reshuffle. But even then, he didn’t dare show anger towards Rylan Williams, not even letting it show on his face, after all, he couldn’t afford to provoke the Williams family.

Now, seeing Peter gaining influence, he realized he had underestimated him. There had to be more to this situation behind the scenes; perhaps Peter did indeed have powerful backing.

His purpose in coming over now was to try to improve his relationship with Peter, to avoid inadvertently getting into trouble with the people behind Pete.

After everyone received the notice, regardless of their thoughts, they all showed up.

Apart from Rylan Williams, it seemed that everyone who could come, did come. When they saw Rylan wasn’t there, people started guessing if Rylan had reluctantly promoted Peter, and wasn’t really happy about it. The more they thought this way, the more awe they felt for the figure behind Peter.
