Stuck in The Marriage Pact -

Chapter 39: Everyone gets upset
Upon arriving at the terrace, Hunter saw Collin walking away from the gate, while his eyes couldn’t find Isabella at all.
"Where is she?" he asked, carefully descending the steps, still pretending to be disabled since there were guards and CCTV around.
"She’s gone," Collin answered anxiously, stopping in front of Hunter. "I tried to stop her, but..."
"Let’s find her!" Hunter shouted before Collin could finish explaining.
Collin nodded, quickly hurrying to the car, then got in and directed it toward Hunter. Hunter immediately got in, threw his cane into the back seat, and slammed the door shut.
"Hurry!" he urged.
Collin sped off, leaving the mansion and passing through the gate that the guard quickly opened wide. He slowed down as they passed the streets, his eyes scanning around, trying to spot Isabella.
"Damn it... Why is she so childish? Always leaves when she’s angry. It’s not even a serious problem!" Hunter grumbled, looking around but unable to find Isabella.
The sound of a ringtone, playing Melanie Martinez’s song Play Date, came from his jacket pocket. Hunter quickly grabbed it and saw an incoming call from Joe.
"What the hell? How can a man like him be so shameless? He couldn’t help Isabella and even let her marry me, but he still expects her to come back. What a jerk!" Hunter muttered, throwing Isabella’s phone onto the seat beside him. "How could she love a guy like him? She loves him so much that she can’t think logically. Of course, I’m better than him... She’s being so stupid!" He kept grumbling, picturing Isabella’s face, then glanced around, noticing how deserted and dim the surroundings were, with many alleys leading to other housing complexes. He thought that maybe Isabella was hiding.
"Sir, I don’t think there’s any point in looking for her right now, as she’s angry and probably doesn’t want to talk to you," Collin said, still driving slowly. "I think she just needs some time alone... She’ll be okay," he added.
Hunter remained silent, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists as if still furious. He thought of Sarah cozying up with Davin, then Isabella talking to Joe in front of him, making him feel unlucky as if he had no place in their hearts.
’What’s wrong with me? Am I treating them so badly that they hurt me?’ he wondered, feeling so tight in his chest. He glanced around the empty streets, imagining Isabella walking through an alley onto the main road. ’What’s she going to do? Alone... She didn’t even bring her phone. Could she already know where Joe is and be planning to go?’
Curious, Hunter picked up Isabella’s phone again and activated the screen, which was not locked.
’She didn’t lock her phone... Does that mean she doesn’t want to hide anything from me? Or did she forget?’
Hunter opened the WhatsApp app and found numerous messages from contacts whose names were unfamiliar to him, but of course, he was more interested in reading her conversation with Joe.
...
Everyone left the mini cinema after watching the family documentary. Jake looked around, searching for Hunter and Isabella in the side terrace and other rooms but couldn’t find them. He then moved to the front terrace, where his grandchildren were getting ready to leave.
"Where are Hunter and Isabella?" he asked, frowning.
"I don’t know," Estella replied with a shrug. "I thought they got bored with the documentary and decided to relax outside."
"But the car is gone," Cassandra said, looking toward the yard.
"Could it be they’ve already gone home with his wife?" Georgina chimed in.
"There’s no way he would leave without saying goodbye!" Katrina grew worried.
"Maybe they were in such a rush they didn’t have time to say goodbye," Jimmy speculated, glancing at them, who seemed confused about Hunter and Isabella’s departure.
"Why don’t you just call them?" Davin suggested casually, letting Sarah hold his right arm.
"I know they already left," Sarah said awkwardly, drawing everyone’s attention. "I saw them having a bit of an argument, then Isabella left first... and Hunter followed her."
Cassandra immediately frowned. "How could she leave my brother like that? She let my brother follow her when he’s not strong enough to walk with his cane! How could she do that? That’s crazy!" she asked angrily.
"That’s your brother’s choice, a wife who doesn’t understand him," Davin replied with a thin smile. "I always suspected this wouldn’t go well. I don’t even know where he found a girl like that, or maybe she’s not an old lover but a new girlfriend who seduced him into marriage."
"That makes sense," Jimmy added.
"You shouldn’t judge her so harshly, Isabella is a good girl!" Katrina snapped, annoyed, then took her phone from her gray pants pocket. "I’ll call Hunter," she said as she tried to contact him.
"I’ll call Mom," Cassandra said, reaching into her red branded bag for her phone.
"Cassandra, you don’t need to do that!" Jake quickly intervened, stopping her. "You don’t need to tell your mother about your brother’s marital problems. Besides, we don’t even know for sure what happened."
"But Sarah already explained!" Cassandra argued, glancing at Sarah.
Jake frowned at Sarah. "She’s just new; I don’t have to believe her," he said, then walked back into the mansion.
Seeing that Jake seemed displeased with her, Sarah lowered her head in sadness.
"Let’s just go," Davin murmured, urging Sarah to leave, followed by the others, while Estella still watched Katrina talking to Hunter on the phone.
Once they got to the car, Davin didn’t immediately drive but looked at Sarah, who appeared gloomy, staring blankly.
"Don’t think too much about Grandpa’s words. He always exaggerates everything about Hunter," he said.
Sarah just nodded.
Davin sighed harshly, then pulled back his hand to stroke Sarah’s hair.
"Don’t worry... Whatever Grandpa’s response is to you, it won’t affect our relationship," he said.
"Can you just take me back to my rental house?" Sarah asked softly, her eyes still filled with sadness.
"I’m not taking you there," Davin replied with a smile. "We’re going to my apartment."
"Davin... I can’t... We’re still too new for this..."
"Don’t worry... I’m not going to ask you to sleep with me," Davin said before Sarah could finish. "I just want you to rest there in peace because it’s much better than your tiny rental house. You can even stay there..."
"I don’t want to. I don’t want your family to think I’m materialistic, loving you just because you can give me a place to stay," Sarah said, looking ahead. "I’m even really scared to be seen as your girlfriend at the office... I’m also not ready to meet your mom or other family members... Maybe they won’t like me because I’m just a poor girl," she continued, recalling how Juliana had done everything she could to keep her away from Hunter.
"That’s primitive thinking..." Davin smiled thinly and started the car. "My family wouldn’t dare oppose my relationship, even if I was dating a prostitute! I’m strong; no one can stand against me!"
Sarah immediately looked at Davin, feeling relieved by his words, but also a bit disgusted as he seemed to equate being poor with being a prostitute.
