Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time -
Chapter 291: Taking Missions For Excuse
Chapter 291: Taking Missions For Excuse
Han Yu soon reached the Mission Hall.
The clerk from earlier was still at the desk, but Han Yu didn’t approach him directly this time. Instead, he wandered over to the jade tablet walls where hundreds if not thousands of mission listings, floated like golden characters in mid-air, shifting ever so slightly as updates occurred in real-time.
He narrowed the filters.
Location: Ending Spine Mountains, Southern Foothills
Type: Solo
Difficulty: Low to Moderate
A small list appeared, fewer than two dozen. Han Yu scanned them methodically, discarding several that were either too high-profile or had narrow time constraints. Then, his eyes paused on three that stood out:
Mission: Herb Collection – Black Vein Snake Grass
Location: Southern Foothills Ravine Area
Objective: Gather 8 bundles of Black Vein Snake Grass. Known to grow along cliff crevices near snake dens.
Difficulty: Moderate
Time Limit: 12 days
Reward: 300 merit points
Mission: Eliminate Bronze Tribe Wolf Pack
Location: Grazing Villages near Southern Foothills
Objective: Exterminate the Bronze Tribe wolves that have been raiding livestock and scaring cultivators and villagers off the roads.
Difficulty: Moderate
Time Limit: 15 days
Reward: 550 merit points + optional resource split
Mission: Pill Delivery – Merchant Clan Tan
Location: Town of Emberthistle (Foothill Settlement)
Objective: Deliver a Regenerative Pulse Pill to Merchant Tan Yu for his ailing son.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Limit: 7 days
Reward: 200 merit points
Han Yu studied the coordinates listed beside each task. Individually, none of them were close enough to the spirit stone mine’s coordinates for concern.
But collectively? They gave him more than enough room to maneuver.
Emberthistle Town was roughly three days’ walk from the border route where the Murong caravan was supposed to pass. The Black Vein Snake Grass cliffs weren’t far from the southern ridgeline trails—and the Bronze Tribe wolves were active in the very valleys surrounding the suspected mine entrance.
’Perfect.’
He could stagger his route: deliver the pill first—quick and simple. Then pretend to look for the snake grass while doubling back toward the wolf-infested areas. Even if he didn’t kill the wolves outright, a fabricated report of tracking or failed sightings would be enough to fulfill the spirit of the mission.
’Maybe I can even get help of Meng Jueyan or her people there.’ He thought.
It would buy him time to reach the mining site. Maybe observe the escort team Murong Xie had sent. Maybe more.
He filed the idea away and approached the clerk, wearing his usual affable expression.
"I’ll be taking these three missions," he said casually, handing over the codes.
The clerk raised an eyebrow. "That’s a bit of a packed itinerary, isn’t it?"
"I’ve been lazing around for too long," Han Yu replied with a grin. "Time to earn a few merit points and get back into shape. Plus they’re all near the same area so I can finish them in one go."
The clerk chuckled and processed the applications. A few seconds later, the missions lit up on Han Yu’s identity token in quick succession.
Mission IDs X0751, X0773, X0824 – Assigned to Disciple Han Yu
Authorization: Approved
With that done the clerk told him a few more details about the missions such as the fact that he had to bring back the corpses of the Bronze Tribe wolves.
"Wait, how do I bring them back?" Han Yu was confused. "One or two might be fine, but there’s no way I can carry an entire pack. Even if i rent a cart it would take too long." He added.
"If you don’t have a Spatial Storage Pouch, one can be assigned to you temporarily for this mission." The clerk replied.
"Really? That would make it easier." Han Yu was relieved and also a bit excited at getting his hands at a Spatial Storage pouch.
"Let me bring one." The clerk went to the back and returned with a pouch within five minutes. "Here you go." The man handed the pouch.
Han Yu held the pouch which seemed to be made out of some kind of beast leather and had fine runes inscirbed on it. A plain brown draw string was at its top that was closer. The entire pouch was barely the size of a small musk melon.
"Interesting..." Han Yu muttered feeling the faint energy from it.
"Remember you have to return the pouch upon return without fail. If you lose it or damage it, you will have to compensate the sect for it." The clerk warned.
"Of course." Han Yu had expected this much.
He then thanked the clerk and stepped out into the sunlight, tucking the identity token away.
’All legal. All reasonable. All innocuous.’
But his mind was already working through the logistics.
This wouldn’t be easy. Navigating the Ending Spine Mountains had its own risks. Bandits, beasts, rogue cultivators, and environmental hazards were common. The southern foothills, though less dangerous than the interior, still weren’t forgiving.
Worse yet, Murong Xie’s people might be paranoid and on edge, especially if they suspected they were being watched.
Which they were.
Han Yu briefly considered bringing the two Fatty Kuis or even Wu Shuan. But quickly rejected the thought.
They were loyal. Too loyal.
If something went wrong, he couldn’t bear the thought of them being caught in the crossfire. If this spiraled into sect-level punishment, it would be his head alone on the block—not theirs.
This was a solo operation.
He returned to his courtyard and began packing light. Enough dry rations for three weeks. A spare robe. A few talismans needles in case of ambushes. Two jade slips—one high-grade for contact with Meng Jueyan, and the mid-grade one he’d recently acquired for common communication. He would hide the high-grade slip in a separate pocket under his robes—no need to reveal too much if someone searched him.
As he worked, he made sure to write three progress reports—each forged with the illusion of modest success in mind. One draft noted finding a few herbs but not the required number just in case. Another claimed he’d spotted wolf tracks but needed more time to locate their den. The third was a routine pill delivery confirmation that could be time-stamped later.
