Chapter 1192: Section 729: Facing (3)
The fourth eldest grandson of Old Man Li, with the last name Li and first name Chenggong, has an auspicious name, but luck clearly wasn’t on his side. At fifteen, which was just two months ago on his first deep dive, he got hit. The young man was completely unaware, and the Immortal Master who checked him afterwards... perhaps was distracted, or maybe didn’t care at all. After all, according to Sage Qian, in Thainan, the probability of being possessed during a deep dive is even lower than winning the lottery.
Maybe that Immortal Master considered the odds and thought Li Chenggong wouldn’t have any issues, but he forgot that in probability theory, it’s all about whether it happens or not. There’s no rule of 1% or 99% guaranteeing success or failure.
And the most critical issue was, Li Chenggong felt fine, unaware that Chaos had already taken root in his body. According to the Immortal Masters’ calculations, if not for Malin’s intervention, it would take at most a week and at least half a month before Li Chenggong would turn into a fresh, hot Dark Curator.
By then, whether anyone at the Li residence survived would be a minor concern. If this Dark Curator were to publicize his location in the Subspace, countless innocents in New Hangzhou would die.
Though Li Chenggong screamed the loudest when Malin extracted the Chaos from him, he obviously understood the experience. After being saved by Malin, the discomfort he felt vanished like smoke in the wind. Of course, he went down on his knees in gratitude—the Li family was among the few who immediately recognized Malin’s princely aura. This kneel was genuinely filled with thankfulness, and Malin had to grab the boy tightly, or else he might have knocked his head on the ground with too much force.
You see, there are indeed differences between the young men of the Li family.
Of course, that boy now feels three parts gratitude, seven parts fear towards Malin. Malin was aware of what the boy was thinking and specifically patted his shoulder as he left—telling him as long as he stayed out of his way and didn’t disturb Meng Quyi, they could continue to coexist peacefully.
It made the boy abundantly grateful.
The entire Li household was deeply thankful to Malin for this, and that old gentleman insisted on accompanying Malin in his work, claiming that he had some influence on this street and could certainly help Malin and Sage Qian.
As for the safety of New Hangzhou, it was of utmost importance. If they really encountered evildoers, he could lend a helping hand even with his old bones.
Malin thought this old fellow probably just wanted to see the excitement, but he pretended not to notice. Besides, just like the old gentleman said, the fourth household burst out laughing at the sight of him. When they heard it was a sudden check, they were very cooperative. Once Malin confirmed there was nothing amiss, the two sly family members immediately invited Malin to stay and have tea before leaving.
Malin chuckled and politely declined, then hurried away—if he hadn’t, the family would have introduced all their eligible women to him in a hurry.
After visiting two houses, Malin had had enough—Old Man Li was introducing him as soon as he entered, turning the sudden checks into a matchmaking event. Just now, a family even threw their adorable sons into the mix, leaving Malin to look at Sage Qian with a face full of confusion.
"Half a century ago, a great traveler from Thainan, Yagyu Shinemon, visited Westland and wrote in his memoir that the bishops of Westland all favored this kind of situation."
Malin was taken aback, and then somewhat at a loss for words—but such nonsense customs were merely the dirty dealings of small churches in a few petty states of Central Earth. The Western nations didn’t suffer such foolishness.
In the end, it was decided that Old Man Li would accompany for sudden checks as Sage Qian’s assistant, while Malin would disguise himself as Sage Qian’s apprentice.
Then Deputy Chief Zhang stepped up to knock on the door. The person from the Zhao residence recognized him, and upon hearing it was a sudden check led by Sage Qian, with Old Man Li lending support, it turned into a hullabaloo. Once everyone gathered, Malin glanced around and found nothing wrong.
He was about to inform Sage Qian to proceed when out of the corner of his eye he suddenly spotted a servant-like figure not far off, colored in purple-black.
Malin reached out and caught Sage Qian, who had been preparing to leave. The latter lowered his head and noticed that Malin’s gaze was not directed at him.
Following Malin’s line of sight, he too saw the distinct servant, who perhaps felt he could hide his aura, as he wasn’t following so many rules.
"He’s got a problem." Confident in Malin’s assertion, Sage Qian pointed a finger.
Being pointed out by Sage Qian, the bald servant immediately turned to scale the wall. However, he didn’t make it over, because Old Man Li waved his hand, causing the bald man to fly backward, turning in mid-air and sliding to his knees at Old Man Li’s feet, where his neck was restrained by the old man’s powerful fingers.
Malin laughed upon seeing it—great, imitating my poser style, are you?
After questioning the house’s master, it turned out this servant had joined three months ago and was just about to be promoted to manager for his meticulous and diligent work. Who would’ve thought the sudden check would target him?
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the man was armed with various assassination tools.
For example, a ring able to extract a steel wire, which was a garrote cable.
Also, his wristguard that hid the blades embedded in his arm.
As for the hidden spikes that could eject from his shoes, a fake mechanical arm for his left hand, and the dagger sheath strapped to his calf, they weren’t elaborated upon one by one.
Although Deputy Zhang wished to apply torture, the man straightforwardly admitted to being a member of Righteous Man Society.
