Chapter 406: Four hundred and six little problem_1
Ji Pianran was supposed to be at work, and indeed, she had already settled into her office seat.
Yet a faint sense of guilt continued to envelop her heart.
This promptly led her to think involuntarily of the two times she had promised her daughter to take her out for fun when she was less busy.
But she had never managed to follow through with it.
Then, she had promised to join her daughter today for the kindergarten’s group outing.
However, when she woke up early this morning, she had broken the promise again.
Thinking about Tangtang’s disappointed expression in her big eyes when she said goodbye to her this morning,
Ji Pianran felt as if there were thorns under her chair, making it impossible to stay seated anymore.
Her thoughts in disarray, she tossed the pen in her hand aside and then zoned out for a while.
Finally, as if she had made up her mind, she abruptly stood up from her chair.
She reached out for her handbag next to her and stood up to walk out.
"Manager, is there anything you need me to do?"
As soon as Ji Pianran left the office, the secretary at the opposite desk immediately came over to greet her.
Following her out, she asked in a soft voice.
"Oh, it’s nothing. Go ahead and file a leave of absence for me later.
Just say I have some family matters to attend to today and reschedule this afternoon’s two meetings for tomorrow."
Hearing this, the secretary couldn’t help but look up at Ji Pianran with a bit of concern, then continued to speak.
"But Manager, your schedule for tomorrow is already packed. If we add two more meetings,
won’t that be too tiring for you?"
Ji Pianran dismissed the concern with a wave of her hand while her high heels clicked on the polished marble floor.
Producing a series of clicking sounds.
"It’s fine, it’s just working a little overtime. Do as I say."
"Yes, Manager."
The secretary nodded, then hurriedly took a few quick steps forward and pressed the elevator button for Ji Pianran.
By the time Ji Pianran got close, the elevator doors opened just in time.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
Arriving at the underground parking on the basement level, Ji Pianran sat in a brand new, luxury Mercedes-Benz van,
pondering whether to rush to the kindergarten’s outing that very moment.
Though this was a last-minute change of plans, her sudden appearance
might just be a pleasant surprise for Gu Chen and Tangtang.
After all, it was still morning, and Tangtang’s field trip was set to last all day.
The more Ji Pianran thought about it, the better she felt about her idea.
The only drawback was—she had no idea where the outing was taking place.
But that was no issue; she simply needed to ask at the kindergarten, as this was no secret.
With that thought in mind, Ji Pianran reached for the ignition and started up the car.
However, the next second, she froze.
Because she realized she didn’t even know the location of Little Sun Kindergarten.
Ever since her daughter Tangtang started school, she seemed to have not visited even once.
But such a minor surprise couldn’t possibly defeat Ji Pianran.
She bit down on her silver teeth and opened the handbag beside her, pulling out her phone.
She started flipping through the contacts.
Although she didn’t know where her daughter’s kindergarten was, a phone call to the teachers would surely tell her, wouldn’t it?
Unfortunately, Ji Pianran, after flipping through her contacts for quite a while, tossed the phone aside in some despondence.
She realized that she had never saved her daughter’s teacher’s phone number.
"Am I really a failure as a mother?"
Ji Pianran leaned back into the driver’s seat, feeling powerless and beginning to doubt her life choices.
She tried hard to recall every detail from the past, only to dejectedly discover.
Aside from knowing that her daughter was currently attending class at Little Sun Kindergarten, she knew virtually nothing else.
Even the information her husband Gu Chen had shared with her in the past was now almost entirely forgotten.
"Do I really need to call my husband?"
Her eyes lacked focus. After all, she had intended to surprise her husband and daughter with an unexpected visit.
If she made the call, would it still count as a surprise?
More importantly, a voice inside her head kept echoing relentlessly.
As if by actually making that call, she would solidify herself as an utter failure of a mother.
Ji Pianran held her head with both hands, striving to calm herself down.
She felt certain that she had overlooked some detail, and that there must be another way to solve the issue.
Her hands took hold of the steering wheel, as if she were a detective piecing together a puzzle with meticulous thought.
She began to recall every word Gu Chen had said to her after they had decided to settle in Chuan City.
After much thought, a meteor seemed to streak through Ji Pianran’s mind.
She smacked the steering wheel abruptly, causing the car horn to honk.
"That’s right, I remember now. My husband told me before that he kept a backup phone book in the bedroom drawer.
He also seemed to have signed some sort of contract with the kindergarten’s administration office.
But what was that for again?"
Ji Pianran thought for a moment but couldn’t recall, so she stopped trying.
Meanwhile, an excited smile appeared on her face.
"It doesn’t matter, as long as it has Little Sun Kindergarten’s number.
Hmph, did you think such a trivial problem could stump me?"
Ji Pianran was filled with joy, pondering how she should make her appearance
so it would seem to Gu Chen and her daughter like a well-prepared surprise, not a last-minute decision.
While thinking this, she drove toward her villa.
Unfortunately, the good idea Ji Pianran had just scratched her head to come up with was doomed to fall through today.
Although she came home early, Gu Chen and Tangtang arrived even earlier.
As she took out the key and pushed open the door to the villa,
she immediately saw her daughter, who was supposed to have been on the kindergarten’s group outing early on.
At that moment, her daughter was gleefully riding on Gu Chen’s back, giggling away.
She occasionally let out phrases like, "Giddy up giddy up, little horse, run faster."
Meanwhile, Gu Chen was crawling on the ground with a red ribbon tied around his forehead, bobbing his head as he moved forward,
making strange noises like "Ahh~ Eh~~ Ahh Eh~~" from time to time.
A stream of large question marks appeared over Ji Pianran’s head.
At this moment, she really wanted to say, "Whose horse makes that kind of sound? Aren’t you braying like a donkey?"
However, at that moment, Gu Chen, who had been on all fours rocking his head to amuse his daughter,
seemed to sense an extra set of eyes on them and instinctively turned his head.
He saw Ji Pianran, who had also come home early and was staring blankly at him and their daughter.
The scene became quite awkward.
