Starting Today, I’ll Work as a City Lord
Chapter 213: Elisa’s Daily Work Life

The pizza shop had great business every day. Especially after the number of merchants in West Sun City increased, many people came just to try this oddly named delicacy.

After all, the word “pizza” was something Liu Feng had introduced to this world. No one had ever heard of it before, and that alone piqued people’s curiosity.

“Table Five, one large pizza.” A pizza shop staff member passed a slip of paper through the window to the kitchen and gently called out, “Elisa, here’s the order.”

“Got it!”

Elisa responded casually. Without even looking, her slender arm extended out and deftly pinched the order slip between her two fingers, placing it on the tray beside her.

There were already twelve orders waiting on that tray. It was lunch hour, and customers were arriving one after another. Ever since Liu Feng adjusted the city’s meal schedules, most of the wealthier commoners had begun following a three-meal-a-day system.

“Phew…”

Elisa wiped the sweat from her brow with her sleeve, eyes fixed intently on the oven. Every now and then she’d sniff cautiously with her delicate nose, afraid she might burn the pizza.

There were no ovens with timers in this world- everything was done manually, relying on experience gained from countless baking attempts.

Elisa recalled the long road to mastering making pizza- she’d wasted enough ingredients along the way to feed herself for a dozen days.

“All right! It’s ready.”

Elisa smelled the aroma of the pizza as soon as it came out. She waited a moment, then put on thick linen gloves, opened the iron oven door, and took the pizza out.

“Perfect!”

Elisa saw that it wasn’t burnt. She picked up a small knife, sliced the pizza into eight pieces, moved it onto a wooden plate, then grabbed the corresponding order slip and pushed it to the window.

“Small pizza for Table Three is ready!”

“Got it!”

Elisa continued preparing the next pizza, adding toppings according to the order, then sliding it into the oven. The shop had four ovens, though she was only capable of using two at the same time for now.

“It’d be nice if I can be like Lady Nicole and handle four ovens at once,” Elisa sighed.

“Hehehe… Elisa, you’re already amazing- way better than us. We can only handle one oven each.”

A voice chimed in from nearby- one of the other girls working in the kitchen. In fact, the entire pizza shop was staffed by women. The kitchen had three.

“Yeah! Elisa can do everything in the shop. Unlike us, we only know how to make pizzas.” Another girl said enviously, “If this keeps up, Miss Nicole might make Elisa the manager someday.”

“Manager? No way, I’m still far from that.”

Elisa shook her head quickly. She couldn’t manage the entire store like Nicole and keep everything neat and efficient.

During her time working at the pizza shop, Elisa admired Nicole the most. It seemed like there was nothing Nicole couldn’t do- even though she always insisted that it was all thanks to the city lord for teaching her.

Two hours passed. Once the lunch rush died down, the flow of customers dropped off, and Elisa and the others finally caught a break.

“Elisa, why don’t you go rest for a bit?”

“Yeah, we can handle the rest of the orders.”

The other two girls urged Elisa to take a break- after all, the two of them combined only made two-thirds of the amount of pizza that Elisa made, and they even occasionally burnt a few pizzas.

“Okay, I’ll head out and help for a bit.”

Elisa glanced at the tray- only two orders left.

She stepped out from the kitchen and made her way to the front counter, tidying up coins. Among them, she spotted two silver coins, showing that new merchants that had come to West Sun City had come to eat pizza today.

“Today’s earnings are definitely better than yesterday’s rainy day.”

“I probably made around 70 pizzas today? That’s seven copper coins in commissions alone.” Elisa murmured to herself, “At this rate, it won’t be long before I can buy my own house in West Sun City.”

Honestly, Elisa had already fallen for the peaceful life here and wasn’t really planning to leave. Or rather, even if she did leave, she knew she’d eventually come back.

Creak.

The door opened, and Pete walked in. He was here for lunch. After spending the whole morning asking around the city, he still couldn’t get any concrete info about the Police Department- people only knew it had been established by the City Lord.

The Police Department had just been established, and the commoners hadn’t had a chance to understand the Police Department, so how could they know what it did?

Pete was starving after a long morning. Thinking back to those little beastkin kids shouting about pizza earlier, he decided to find the pizza shop and try it for himself.

“Welcome to the pizza shop!” Elisa called out cheerfully at the sound of the door. “Sir, this way please.”

Pete glanced around. The decor of the place was… unusual. Then he caught sight of Elisa and froze.

“Green eyes? But her hair’s gray, and her ears are hidden under her hair…”

Pete muttered softly. His bounty hunter instincts kicked in. Anytime he saw someone vaguely familiar, he’d subconsciously analyze them. If it weren’t for the gray hair, he might’ve thought he’d found the target already.

“…”

Elisa’s hand trembled slightly as she picked up the menu. Her green pupils shrank slightly. She’d heard every word of Pete’s muttering. In an instant, she understood- this old man was a bounty hunter, and worse, he was here for her.

She now felt her decision to dye her white hair gray had been a brilliant move. The hair dye recipe had been a gift from a tiny friend.

That trick had allowed her to escape the capital. She hadn’t expected that searching for hair dye ingredients in some cities had caused her to expose her trail.

Now that the bounty hunters had tracked her to West Sun City, Elisa wasn’t sure whether to admire their “noses” or blame her bad luck.

“What would you like, sir?” Elisa asked calmly.

“I’ll take a medium pizza,” Pete replied casually as he flipped through the menu, picking a random pizza.

He wasn’t in the mood to worry about bounties right now. All he could think about was how to get Hal out. He couldn’t just forcefully charge in…

“Alright. Please wait a moment.”

Elisa took the menu, and as she turned away, a cold glint flashed in her green eyes- but quickly faded. Her identity hadn’t been exposed yet. She decided not to make a move. If she left any traces, she’d have to abandon West Sun City.

She was determined to stay hidden here at the pizza shop. As long as she didn’t reveal herself, no one would suspect she was an elf.

No one would ever imagine that an elf was hiding in plain sight, right under their noses. With only those little bits of old intel, even seasoned bounty hunters would find it hard to discover her identity.

Maybe, Elisa thought, the corners of her lips lifting slightly, this will turn out to be another fun little game.

She sent the order slip to the kitchen.
