Chapter 11: Kasumigaoka Utaha’s First Favor Update

After Lynn and the others had left, only Rias and Himejima Akeno remained.

“Akeno, what do you think?” Rias had been contemplating Kasumigaoka Utaha’s abilities.

A Sacred Gear user? But there was no fluctuation of Sacred Gear energy. As a high-ranking demon, she trusted her judgment. But could a human truly awaken such extraordinary powers?

The idea that these abilities emerged after reincarnation hadn’t even crossed their minds. There was no precedent in the underworld. The reincarnation ritual merely turned familiars into demons, sometimes granting them the abilities tied to the Demon Chess pieces.

In the end, even those Demon Pieces were nothing more than tools created to replenish the demon population.

Himejima Akeno shook her head. “If even the President can’t figure it out, there’s no way I can.”

Rias sighed, voice soft. “If only Kasumigaoka were one of my familiars… With her potential, before that incident, I could’ve helped her grow strong enough to defeat that Firebird familiar.” Backed by the Gremory family’s legacy, she had every confidence in that.

Knock knock.

Just as Rias was silently admiring Lynn, someone knocked at the door to the clubroom.

“Sona? What brings you here?” Rias blinked in surprise.

Sona glanced around the room. “Was he here?”

“Your intel’s as sharp as ever,” Rias said with a helpless smile.

“Well, I am the student council president.”

“Then you know when he left too, don’t you?”

“Of course.” Otherwise, she wouldn’t have dared show up. Whatever crossed her mind made her ears flush slightly. She settled comfortably across from Rias.

“So… what did he come for?”

Rias briefly explained Lynn’s visit. Sona listened, her gaze thoughtful. “I have some water-based magic spells. Next time he comes, could you give them to him for me?”

Rias hesitated. “Sona, don’t you think you’re a little too invested in him?”

“He’s my fiancé.”

“But… weren’t you planning to break off the engagement?”

Sona paused, then deflected. “Did you give him the key?”

Rias froze.

“Sorry, sorry!” Rias clasped her hands together. “So much happened today, I completely forgot!”

Sona sighed. “Then give it to him next time. With the water magic.”

Rias nodded awkwardly and chose not to press the issue of Sona’s growing attention toward Lynn.

Tokyo. Lynn’s house.

Lynn eyed Kasumigaoka Utaha’s suitcase. “So, we’re really doing this? Living together?”

“Having a beautiful girl like me move in with you is a blessing you’ve earned over eight lifetimes.”

On the way back, they had swung by Utaha’s place to pack up essentials—clothes, toiletries, her tablet, and some other electronics. And yes, there were cursed spirits lurking in that apartment. Utaha casually eliminated them with a wave of her hand.

Ever since she recorded the lightning magic, she’d been feeling confident—too confident to bother hunting weak spirits anymore. But even so, she had no intention of spending the night alone at the rental.

After unpacking, Utaha turned to Lynn with eager eyes. “So it’s time for that, right?”

“Yeah. Take it off.” Lynn’s face was dead serious.

Utaha hesitated. Then, biting her lip and stomping a foot, she peeled off her outerwear. “Underwear… I don’t need to take that off, right?” Her cheeks were burning.

“I can see it well enough.”

She let out a breath of relief. As long as he could see it—that was her limit. Anything more, and… Even so, she still felt incredibly self-conscious.

“Why did you have to engrave something so important there, of all places?!”

“It was convenient in the moment,” Lynn said. “Besides, didn’t you want me to put it on your—”

“Don’t say it!” Utaha lunged forward and clamped both hands over his mouth, cheeks bright red. “It’s your fault for being so vague back then!”

“Mmmph—” Lynn raised his hands in surrender.

With a proud little hum, Utaha finally let go. Lynn drew a drop of blood using magic and placed it on her. Instantly, the hidden blessing data surfaced.

[Kasumigaoka Utaha]

“Your magic jumped over a hundred points. Not bad.” Encouraging her, Lynn transcribed her updated stats and handed them to Utaha.

“Aside from magic, nothing else went up by much.” Utaha looked a little dejected.

Lynn replied with a sigh. “May I ask, besides the time you used a book to smash the evil spirit, did you do any other physical activities?”

“Uh…” Kasumigaoka Utaha was at a loss for words. It seemed she really hadn’t.

Lynn spread his hands. The truth was clear. “Considering that you haven’t done much else, it’s quite good that the other stats have increased even a little.”

Kasumigaoka Utaha fell into thought. “Does that mean I’m going to become a glass cannon mage?”

No way! She had to train her body. Last but not least, she had to raise her agility! If she ever encountered an enemy she couldn’t defeat, she had to at least be fast enough to run away.

“Alright! Let’s take advantage of the night and hunt some cursed ghosts to gain experience!” she declared, eyes burning with determination as she grabbed Lynn and pulled him toward the door.

Lynn didn’t dampen her enthusiasm. Although the boost was weak, he could feel a faint increase in his magic power from Utaha’s blessing update. For someone like him, a higher demon, it was just a drop in the bucket—but drops became rivers. As more members joined his family, each person’s progress would snowball into significant gains.

Late at night. In an alley too obscure to bother naming.

“Thunder!” A bolt of lightning exploded forward from Utaha’s palm, lighting up the darkness.

“You need to train your other stats as well.” Lynn’s amused voice floated over her shoulder.

“Damn it!” she cursed, already charging another spell. “Book of Demons!” Raising the black tome with both hands, she slammed it down on the incoming cursed spirit.

The Demon Book vibrated in her grip as if asking, Well?
