Chapter 76: Kidnapped
"What do you mean the camera was off at that time? Are you guys even doing your job?" Bei Sangyun expressed her frustration in the security office.
"The camera in that area malfunctioned, but we’ve already replaced it with a new one to prevent such issues in the future," one of the security staff explained.
Bei Sangyun’s gaze narrowed suspiciously. The timing seemed too coincidental.
"Who was in charge of monitoring at that time?" she inquired.
A nervous young man in his late twenties raised his hand. "Ms. Lin, the camera was working perfectly fine before I went to the restroom, but when I returned, I found it had malfunctioned. It was completely out of my control."
Bei Sangyun continued to scrutinize the security team, trying to discern if they were lying or not. They seemed genuinely concerned about their malfunctioning camera and did not seem to be lying.
"Did anyone other than the security staff enter this area during that time?"
"We typically don’t allow anyone in, but we made an exception for you," the person in charge replied. "It was our mistake, and we’ll exercise more caution in the future."
The school bell signaling the end of classes rang, and the security staff subtly hinted that Bei Sangyun should leave so they could get back to their work. They had other tasks to attend to.
If it had been any other student, they wouldn’t have entertained them like this. However, due to Bei Sangyun’s influential background and her reputation at the school, she received special treatment from the school staff.
Bei Sangyun wasn’t able to get anything from the security team. Frustrated and empty-handed, she decided to give up on obtaining the surveillance footage and entrusted the investigation to Butler Xin.
However, just as she was about to leave the security office, the young man suddenly exclaimed.
"Wait! I remember that on my way to the restroom, I encountered one of the cleaning staff members in the hallway. It was unusual to see him there, so it caught my attention. However, I was in a hurry to use the restroom, so I didn’t think much of it. That cleaning staff must have entered the security room."
Bei Sangyun immediately requested to review the footage. Ordinarily, students wouldn’t be allowed to access the surveillance footage without permission from the principal. However, Bei Sangyun enjoyed certain privileges thanks to her status as the number one ranked student.
The footage corroborated the young man’s account. It showed the cleaning staff encountering him in the hallway. As he entered the restroom, the cleaning staff smoothly entered the security room and came out a minute later.
Bei Sangyun paused the video, zooming in on the man’s appearance. The cleaning staff wore the typical uniform and a cap, with a crew cut and a muscular build. His features bore a striking resemblance to the man Lin Sunji had brought to the Lin mansion.
Bei Sangyun narrowed her eyes. As expected, Lin Sunji was the one behind this.
[Ring]
Bei Sangyun’s phone interrupted her thoughts. She answered it, still deep in contemplation.
"Young Miss, we’ve received updates about the mysterious man. He was seen talking to someone from your wing. We’re currently trying to locate that driver."
Bei Sangyun snapped wide awake. "What driver?"
"The second driver you sent to school."
Bei Sangyun’s heart sank. The second driver she had sent was the one tasked with picking up Fei Chuan.
A sense of dread washed over her. She hastily ended the call to dial Fei Chuan’s number.
However, she realized she didn’t have his phone number. Panic started to set in as she tried to think of a way to contact him.
Finally, she remembered the phone she had given him and dialed its number.
The phone rang, but there was no answer. Bei Sangyun’s anxiety intensified.
Growing impatient, Bei Sangyun headed to the security monitor area to review the footage from the school entrance.
Having been Fei Chuan’s seatmate for a while, Bei Sangyun had observed some of his habits. One notable behavior was that the moment the school bell rang, he would be the first one to exit the classroom.
She scanned the footage for Fei Chuan’s figure at the time the bell rang. After a brief wait, she spotted him on the monitor. He had just stepped outside the school gate when a familiar car pulled up in front of him.
"Don’t be stupid..." Bei Sangyun muttered to herself, hoping with Fei Chuan’s doubtful nature, he wouldn’t get in the car.
However, to her dismay, she watched as Fei Chuan engaged in a brief conversation with the driver of the car before getting into the back seat.
Bei Sangyun: "...."
When did this man become so trusting?
He had always been skeptical and cautious around her, never hesitating to question or verify things.
So why, in this particular situation, did he not exercise the same caution?
Bei Sangyun was anxious and went to another camera to get a clearer view of the driver. She zoomed in on the image.
And the driver was the same man they had been trying to locate.
Bei Sangyun’s expression darkened. She immediately called back the spy she had tasked with the investigation.
"I’ll send a plate number to you. Find the people in that car at all costs. There is another person in that car. Ensure that person’s safety. If you have to kill that man, I don’t mind."
The security staff who had overheard Bei Sangyun’s ruthless order couldn’t help but shudder. Was it even permissible for a student to issue a kill order? Shouldn’t they intervene and stop her?
However, as they looked at Bei Sangyun’s steely expression and felt the intimidating aura she exuded, the security staff understood why she was known as the school’s tyrant, and why everyone held her in fear.
They were just small people living by check to check, how could they have the guts to stop her?
With a dark look on her face, Bei Sangyun stormed out of the security room and headed towards Lin Sunji.
