Standing Next To You -
Chapter 320: Zhong Cheng, the parasite
Chapter 320: Zhong Cheng, the parasite
Zhong Cheng left the room, leaving Wang Jia plopped on the ground defeatedly. Meanwhile, the classmates around her were rethinking their lives.
Lin Sunji watched Zhong Cheng’s back and couldn’t help but run after him.
"Zhong Cheng!"
Zhong Cheng paused on his steps. He raised his brow towards Lin Sunji.
Lin Sunji pursed her lips. "Why did you help me?"
Zhong Cheng raised his brow even further. "When did I help you?"
"...Just now. You stood up for me."
Lin Sunji did not expect Zhong Cheng to suddenly interfere and change the topic to ’the benefits of being a lackey.’
Zhong Cheng dominated the conversation. No, it actually turned into a long speech on how lackeys do their jobs, get amazing profits, and get a free ride to success. He envisioned the life he would live as a lackey while convincing everyone that living as an underling wasn’t as bad as they thought.
He made it sound so great that some students in the room must have converted into lackeys.
He stole the limelight. And made the cold gazes thrown at her disappear.
"I didn’t stand up for you. I just wanted to recruit more people for my boss. But if Wang Jia put lackeys in that light, no one would want that job." Zhong Cheng explained.
"Everyone thinks it’s bad to be a lackey. They think it’s about selling your pride and dignity. But it’s more than that. What you have to throw away is your worthless pride, except for your pride as a passionate being." Zhong Cheng was amazed by his own words and began to think deeply.
"Right...I should use this as a slogan for future generations of lackeys."
Lin Sunji stared at Zhong Cheng. This man was never serious. He was like a comedian putting on a show. He was the lowest of the low. Lin Sunji looked down on people like him who lived like parasites, mooching off others.
However, this parasite was surprisingly better than others. He was a hardworking, passionate and sincere parasite.
An image of a parasite working its ass off while raising a flag with written words ’Pride of the Parasite’ appeared in her mind. The parasite had a resemblance to Zhong Cheng’s brows.
Lin Sunji suddenly laughed. That image really suited him.
Zhong Cheng paused from his thoughts and saw Lin Sunji laughing.
"Are you laughing at me?"
Lin Sunji shook her head. After being tense for so long in that room, suddenly being able to laugh like this made all her tense nerves relax. It was a bit ridiculous, but she somehow felt relieved seeing Zhong Cheng act like this.
Everyone changed the way they treated her, but she was glad that Zhong Cheng never did. He was a prick from the beginning and still a prick.
"Yeah. I am laughing at you," Lin Sunji replied, still laughing with tears in her eyes.
Zhong Cheng looked at her strangely. Then he began to complain about people not understanding the principles of being a lackey.
Lin Sunji stared at him as she walked.
To think, there would come a day she would look favorably on this guy.
Bei Sangyun was very fortunate to have Zhong Cheng as her lackey.
Lin Sunji was envious.
Bei Sangyun had a good eye for people. If she had Bei Sangyun’s skills, would she be able to get sincere people like Zhong Cheng on her side?
If she had someone by her side, she wouldn’t feel this lonely, as if the world had abandoned her.
She had nothing.
She was no longer an heiress. She no longer had the favor of her parents, and her classmates were cold to her. Even the skills she thought she had an advantage in had become useless.
Nothing was left to her.
Lin Sunji’s shoulders slumped.
Zhong Cheng noticed that the person beside him had gone silent again.
Usually, at a time like this, Lin Sunji would be whining about the people ganging up on her. She would complain and then come up with ways to get back at them. But right now, she was looking at the ground with a sad look on her face, as if the world had collapsed on her.
It was as if she had accepted her defeat and lost her motivation to fight.
Zhong Cheng suddenly flicked Lin Sunji’s forehead.
"Ouch!" Lin Sunji was startled and looked up at Zhong Cheng in shock. "Did you just flick me?!"
"That’s more like it. I’m used to seeing you whining rather than giving up."
Lin Sunji was stunned. She pulled her bangs to cover her red forehead and flushed cheeks. "Who said I’m giving up? I just don’t want to argue with them because they’re not on my level."
"Good. As my student, you should not lose in the first round. At a time like this, you should strengthen yourself. I have new stock to sell. You will continue your daily quota."
"But I don’t have time. Finals are coming up—"
"Finals are still four months away."
"That’s the issue. I only have four months to prepare—"
The two bickered back and forth all the way to the cafeteria.
*****
The cafeteria was lively as usual.
The corner of the cafeteria was no longer gloomy or isolated like it was a few months ago. It had now become the brightest spot in the cafeteria, a nest of two lovers that everyone sneakingly glanced at.
Fei Chuan, unaware of the students’ glances around him, took a bite of everything on Bei Sangyun’s plate and handed the utensils back to her.
Bei Sangyun, oblivious to the stares around her, happily accepted them and ate joyfully.
Actually, Bei Sangyun’s taste had recovered since the trip, but since Fei Chuan was offering his service in his own initiative, Bei Sangyun let him and just sat back to enjoy.
Fei Chuan put some food on Bei Sangyun’s plate while Bei Sangyun munched happily. She then added some side dishes for Fei Chuan.
This was the scene Zhong Cheng and Lin Sunji saw when they arrived at the couple’s dining table.
Lin Sunji’s face turned sour. "Can’t you just put your own food on your own plate?"
Bei Sangyun was in a good mood and did not mind answering her question. "You’re single, so you don’t understand."
Lin Sunji: "...." It was indeed true, but why did it hurt?
Zhong Cheng sat and looked at the two back and forth. "Are you two...?"
Bei Sangyun nodded and winked.
Zhong Cheng covered his mouth in shock.
Damn, it took them so long!
The ship finally has sailed!
Zhong Cheng was genuinely happy for them. The person happiest for this relationship, second to Bei Sangyun, was him. All his hard work and prayers were not futile.
But...
Zhong Cheng paused.
Why haven’t they announced it yet?
Knowing his Boss well, she would be boasting about her relationship with Fei Chuan right now. It wouldn’t be exaggerated to say if Bei Sangyun took the school’s microphone and announced to the whole school that Fei Chuan was her man.
However, the school was quiet since this morning.
Zhong Cheng stared at Bei Sangyun.
...Are they keeping it a secret?
Bei Sangyun noticed his questioning gaze and nodded. She made a ’shh’ gesture.
Zhong Cheng: "...."
He did not understand why the two wanted to keep it a secret when, in fact, the whole school had already assumed they were dating ages ago.
Just look at their intimate acts; who wouldn’t believe they were a couple?
