Chapter 178: - The Conversation -
"We are here."
A wave of sweet, clear fragrance brushed their noses the moment the door slipped open.
’This is a form room?’
Behold, the room looked like a high-end underground suite from futuristic movies.
Sleek, quiet, and meticulously curated.
1000% noise absorbance from the look of it.
"Wow."
Temporarily losing composure, Brielle’s eyes traced the soft white lighting that ran across the curved walls to create an ambient warmth.
"This is cool," she whispered, excited about her decision to tag along with Max.
"Well... this is Alicia’s humble abode."
Evelyn said, winking at Brielle, who quickly retrained herself after realizing she acted out of character.
Reacting to his sister’s words, Max glanced at the familiar Korean girl who just happened to tilt her neck at the same time as him.
’So she’s Alicia,’ he thought, only to realize the next instant that she was Evelyn’s best friend.
’I should have realized earlier.’
That night, at the party, she had been the one to alert him of Evelyn being assaulted because she had been in disbelief at the sight.
"You can have your seats."
Evelyn hinted with open arms at the two small couches opposite each other, positioned next to the bed.
Taking the couch to the right, Max silently took his seat.
Due to the big difference in status and fame, Brielle reacted later after some difficulty.
"Okay brother and... girls. I shall introduce you guys."
"Max, this is Alicia."
"Emma," she pointed at the girl with a pink fluffy hairband.
"Viv, Vivian." Wrapping her arm around the girl with the second most luscious black hair other than Alicia, she said.
"And Iris."
Iris had the most distinct features, which were her silver eyes groomed with the calm temperament she gave off.
"Alicia, Emma, Viv, Iris... This is my brother, Max."
"Hi." "Hi." "Hi."... Other than Alicia who simply nodded in silence, the rest of them either raised a palm, winked, or silently stared into his eyes.
All met with his silent gaze.
"It’s nice to meet you... all."
Max said, restraining his gaze from checking them out.
"I’m glad that’s settled," Evelyn said after a short pause.
The only person who felt awkward in the room at the moment was Brielle.
"Max, is it okay to share how you advanced so quickly?"
"To be honest, quickly is an understatement."
Unable to contain their curiosity any longer, Emma asked while being supported by Viv.
’I would be dumb to reveal the system.’
"That... I don’t exactly know how.
I got an email this morning and saw that I was promoted two ranks."
Recounting every word with composure, he shrugged his shoulders, causing the girls to be speechless.
"... I see."
"With the way the school is, you should have no other knowledge than what Evelyn already told you..."
Speaking up with a straight, neutral tone, Alicia seemed to analyze the situation for him, releasing the awkward silence.
’Huh?’
Brief silence fell between both siblings until Evelyn flashed a smile.
"Oh... about that. I don’t tell him about what happens in school."
Upon hearing her words, the four girls quickly threw her a suspicious look.
"She and I rarely come back home, so we don’t get to talk apart from a little FaceTime."
Protecting the truth, which was their distant sibling relationship for the past years, Max spoke to ease their suspicion.
Though it didn’t completely vanish, the girls pretended to nod in realization.
"To be fair, I asked her not to disclose our relationship because I wanted to stay under the radar."
With his straight face, neutral lie, the glint of suspicion in their eyes vanished.
"What she said on our way here is just the tip of the iceberg."
Iris said, throwing Evelyn a silent glance.
"Wait, do you two know the true purpose of what it means to be an Elite?" Emma said with a doubtful look on her face.
Whilst the rest of the girls suddenly turned serious.
"A guess." Not to disappoint, Max had done his assignment into such things.
"Right, you’re also a rich folk. But let me break it down clearly," Emma proposed.
"Hmm." Nodding in response, the latter pursed her lips into a smile and continued.
"It is no secret that humanity is exploring Mars. But that’s to the public and common people. So far, among the world’s wealthiest and most influential people, there’s a rumor about colonization of planet Mars.
However, there is a requirement that only young people can live through the early phase.
This is where Elites come in.
As an Elite, you’ll be trained to adapt and survive in most situations and circumstances.
And trust me, since you skipped a whole crucial rank, you’ll be assigned to the strictest lessons," Emma concluded.
Picking up from where she dropped, Viv spoke up.
"To begin, you’ll have to show your path of study."
"Evelyn and I study Biology—Life Study, to be precise."
"Alicia, Tactical Strategy and Simulation."
"Emma, Astro-TerraScience."
"Iris, Engineering and System Integration."
"Combat, Space Law, Geography. The list goes on."
’Crazier than I expected, such advanced studies.’
"You don’t have to worry much about it, you can have a taste of each class before deciding to select. After you select, you can go meet the Provost.
And as for the Provost, she’s like the principal but with the highest authority in the base. She can easily oust S Elites.
So when you do meet her, be careful of the way you treat or talk to her." Viv added with a serious expression.
Emma took over.
"You’ll then be taken to a room where you’ll be tested and injected with an actual serum—"
’Interesting.’
"In case you’ve ever wondered why Elites here are mostly physically stronger than those at the normal school, it’s because the serum strengthens their gene."
"Serum’s effect specializes in different aspects, which you’ll get to know on your own."
"As for Ethan, who you beat up, he studies Biology just like your sister, so his physical quality may be less redeeming," Emma taunted in spite but also hinted at him about stronger people.
The whole room turned awkward for a moment before suddenly, Iris spoke.
"Look, Max, you’ve been challenged."
