Chapter 26: Brother…?
Chapter 26: Brother...?
Arthur swallowed hard. The room, which had been noisy just moments ago, now felt suffocatingly silent.Every pair of eyes was on him—but none weighed heavier than Raven Van Thor’s.Her gaze was like a steel hammer, ready to smash his skull.
Arthur finally opened his mouth, his voice trembling faintly."I-I... just... heal..."
Raven narrowed her eyes."And how exactly did you neutralize the Dark Power’s poison?"
Arthur froze. His brain went blank. How the hell i supposed to explain this...?Do I need to say I saved people... by slapping them?Just thinking about their reactions made his hands itch.
"U-uh..." he muttered under his breath, "...by slapping... heheh..."
A few people tilted their heads in confusion.Meanwhile, the little Bounchiechomie on Arthur’s shoulder gave a soft "Bloop," echoing its master’s embarrassment.
Raven raised an eyebrow. But instead of anger, she let out a long, heavy sigh. Then, in a calm yet weighty voice, she spoke.
"Everyone has secrets. A special skill... that only they know how to use. I respect that."
Arthur blinked."...Huh?"
"I don’t care if you slap, kick, or scream—if you can save your comrades, that’s what matters."Raven leaned forward slightly, her sharp eyes glinting with an unexpected warmth."So keep your secret... and be a good boy."
Arthur froze in place.She... really said that? Why did he suddenly feel like a dumb NPC that just got spared by a limited-edition SSR Heroine?
In the novel he once read, Raven Van Thor had only been a side character.A steel-hearted woman with unrequited love. But now... she was right in front of him.Breathing. Alive. Real. And if she wanted, Arthur was pretty sure she could poke his chest with one finger and make his heart explode.
He swallowed again, his eyes drifting toward Raven’s face... then to her shoulders... and, damn it, a little lower than they should have.I... I could touch her right now if I wanted...
Arthur quickly turned his head away, his cheeks burning.God... this world is insane.
Raven finally took a step back, her voice booming once more."Alright. You may leave. But listen carefully—if the Dark Power appears again, come to me first before doing anything reckless. Understand?"
Arthur and his friends could only nod rapidly, though deep inside, Arthur kept replaying the entire scene in his head.
Arthur was just about to leave the room, his feelings a tangled mess—relieved, embarrassed, and... yeah, a little horny because of Raven—when a voice that could only mean trouble rang out.
"Is that all?" Levain scoffed, arms crossed in the perfect young master pose."Where’s my compensation? You’ve inconvenienced a noble! Where are your manners?"
The room, which had finally started to calm down, froze again.Dead silence.Even the Bloop from Bounchiechomie was painfully clear.
Arthur closed his eyes for a moment.God... can I just slap this guy into permanent silence?
Raven turned slowly. Her sharp eyes blazed like torches, and her hand rose to grip the handle of her massive hammer. Her deep voice echoed through the hall.
"If it’s manners you want... come here. And fight me. Right now."
DUMM.
The tip of her hammer struck the floor once, leaving a small crack in the stone.
Levain froze in place. His lips trembled, but no sound came out.The entire hall held its breath.
Lisha hurriedly stepped half a pace forward, trying to mediate."P-Please calm down, Lady Raven... Young Master Levain is just... a little emotional..."
Vayne was already covering his face with one hand, his exhaustion obvious."Young Master... please... don’t make this worse..."
Behind Arthur, Casca stayed silent, but her hand reached out to pinch Arthur’s.It wasn’t a cute gesture. It was the code for: "Your buddy is a walking disaster, I swear to God."
Arthur could only take a long breath."He’s not my buddy..." he muttered under his breath.
Levain suddenly spun around, his face bright red—half from anger, half from humiliation."Fine! You think you can treat me like this? I’ll take this matter to court!"
Arthur snorted inwardly.Bro, seriously? This is all on you.
Levain jabbed a finger at them with dramatic flair."Mark my words! The Adventurer’s Guild of Just City... is finished for daring to cross a noble like me!"
The room grew even tenser. Some adventurers glanced at each other, torn between holding back laughter or genuine fear.
Arthur, on the other hand, just wanted to hide his face under a helmet to avoid secondhand embarrassment. This guy... was the definition of a walking lawsuit.
Levain swirled his cloak dramatically, his footsteps echoing loudly on the stone floor."Remember this! I will report all of you! And once the Levain family moves, the Adventurer’s Guild of Just City will—"
BOOM!
Raven’s massive hammer slammed into the floor again, the impact shaking loose dust from the ceiling. Her voice was flat, but cold enough to pierce to the bone.
"If you utter one more word in my presence, boy... even your family won’t be able to find what’s left of you."
Levain froze mid-step.His eyes went wide, but his mouth stayed tightly shut. Then he gave a fake, defiant snort and briskly walked out of the hall without looking back.
Only after the door closed did everyone finally dare to breathe again.
"...He’s gonna cause big trouble," Vayne muttered, his tone more tired than scared.
Lisha just rubbed her forehead."I... I just pray there won’t be any casualties from sheer stupidity after this."
Casca was still holding Arthur’s hand, grinning sideways."Your friend... is priceless. If Zholdick doesn’t kill us, his behavior will."
Arthur wanted to scream, HE’S NOT MY FRIEND! but he only let out a long sigh.
Raven slowly turned to face them, her sharp eyes now like fading embers. She gave a thin grin, but her predator’s aura never left.
"Let him try. I’ve never feared a noble who can only rely on his family name."
Arthur just stood there, dumbfounded. He looked at Raven, standing proud in the middle of the hall, massive hammer in hand, her fitted armor framing her body, and a gaze that could make a dragon bow.
Ah damn, a brave muscle mommy. I can’t look away. Go beat the shit out of him, mommy.
Arthur could only nod like a weeb meeting an a Cosplayer who cosplay his waifu for the first time.
CREAAK...
The guild door creaked open again, making the few still-tense adventurers whip their heads toward the sound.
It wasn’t Levain returning—It was a slender young woman with long black hair, disheveled from running. Her breath came in ragged gasps, and her eyes shone with a mix of panic... and happiness?
"Brother!!" she cried out loudly, her voice shattering what little silence remained in the hall.
Arthur froze in place....Brother?
Every single head in the room reflexively turned toward him.Even the Bounchiechomie on his shoulder stiffened and let out a confused "Bloop?"
The woman finally reached him, clutching her chest as it rose and fell from sprinting. Her eyes met Arthur’s, full of relief and longing.
"Brother... I finally found you!"
