Chapter 954: 959 Chapter Easy and Comfortable

Yang Yi didn’t look very relaxed; his hands rested on the table as he stared directly at Dave, occasionally rolling his eyes upward as if he were recalling, not fabricating.

"I think it’s better to start from the beginning; otherwise, it’ll be quite confusing."

Yang Yi gave his suggestion earnestly, but Dave ignored it.

"No, you don’t need to start from the beginning. Just tell me why Mr. Hayes sent you to prison. Did he give you any reason?"

Yang Yi immediately nodded, "Yes, but he didn’t tell me initially that I had to go to prison. He said he believed I had the talent to be a spy, and he needed someone completely unrelated to the CIA, someone who wouldn’t be watched by the CIA... a novice, someone absolutely disconnected from the intelligence world. But you see, I had no knowledge of spy techniques; I knew nothing. So, I needed to learn, to go to a university to receive basic training to become a spy."

"University?"

"Yes, he said it was a university, but I later discovered I was deceived. I was taken to the United States. I really thought I was going to a university, but I ended up being sent to Pelican Bay Prison, serving a sentence under someone else’s name. Before entering prison, Jason Moore told me that my mission was to find a person named Brian, gain his trust, and ask him about everything that happened in the Middle East."

Dave repeated, "Brian?"

"Yes, Brian, the former leader of the CIA Pandora Box Squadron. Do you know this name?"

Dave, expressionless, said, "Please continue."

Yang Yi sighed, his face a mix of helplessness, "I got into a prison conflict with the leader there, but back then, I knew and understood nothing. For the love of God, the things Mr. Hayes gave me were entirely useless. I couldn’t even bring them into prison. Looking back, those were indeed tough times. Uh, do you know about this part of my experience? If you do, I don’t need to go into it. But if you don’t..."

Yang Yi appeared enthusiastic; his demeanor was important. He was a young man with no professional training—note, no professional spy training. So, a young man talking about his rise from desperate circumstances, about how he became stronger step by step, even became a leader in prison, would naturally want to show off a bit.

So, not only did Yang Yi elaborate in detail, but he also bragged a bit.

"That’s the way it was; I took down the Boxing King! Even though I knew nothing about fighting, a total newbie, I relied on my smarts to beat him. Guys, just think about my situation then."

After finishing his talk, Yang Yi picked up a Coke, took a sip, then set down the empty can and picked up another Coke, opened it, took a sip, and continued with vibrant enthusiasm, "That was the most dangerous moment I ever faced in my life."

"What happened next?"

Walter couldn’t help but ask, and Yang Yi immediately said, "After that, I thought I had to enter the maximum security area, so I did, and then I met a mercenary. I must say, Pelican Bay Prison really is full of talent. He liked gambling, and I could teach him gambling. So, I learned from him how to fight, how to kill, all from him. After that, I was different, guys—trust me, at least in Pelican Bay, no one could beat me again."

After properly bragging and elevating his status in prison once more, Yang Yi sighed and then finally grew serious, "Until I finally got the chance to meet Brian, and his first words to me were asking if I knew a girl named Kate. Uh, after saying what Mr. Hayes taught me, he became even more agitated."

Yang Yi spoke naturally because he was telling the truth. As he spoke of agitation, he even gesticulated excitedly. Nervous? No way. When you’re facing three idiots, even blatant lies wouldn’t make you nervous.

Dave, having listened for a long time, finally asked another question, "You met Brian; so, what did he tell you?"

"It started with not much, but once we started talking about a girl named Kate, he began to talk more, especially after he learned I was British. He liked it when I talked to him with a British accent. Until one day, he revealed he was with the CIA and a traitor, which is why he ended up in prison. His desire was to find that girl named Kate, a KGB."

Yang Yi became very serious, then he said in a deep tone, "Brian turned traitor because of Kate. He caused great damage to the CIA’s Middle East Division, but, Brian personally told me he didn’t betray his comrades. He was blinded by love, but he did not betray his brothers."

Dave said sternly, "Then what?"

"Then? There’s no then. My objective was to get close to Brian, but Brian had been in prison so long; he had no clue about the outside world, and I had to act as if I knew nothing of his past. Thus, I decided to take him out and then made contact with Mr. Hayes."

Yang Yi took a deep breath, then opened his hands, "Mr. Hayes said I could decide on my own, so I escaped with some guys I had under me in prison, including Brian."

Dave suddenly interjected, "That Chinese guy who taught you to fight, he escaped prison before you. Why didn’t you escape together?"

Yang Yi looked troubled and said, "That’s another story, not really a story but might as well be one, very complicated. Do you want to hear it now? Because I’m about to get to something very important."

Dave pondered for a moment and said, "Go on."

Yang Yi now spoke gravely, "After escaping, the first thing I did was meet Mr. Hayes. First, he thought I did exceptionally well, really very well, but then he told me... he might die. Aaron might have found out about his covert investigation, but we had no evidence, no solid evidence. So, Mr. Hayes told me to keep hiding and that it might be safer to go to Europe. He said he would provide me some funds after I got to Europe, but after that, I never saw Mr. Hayes again. It was our last meeting and call. Much happened after that; mainly, Brian contacted his former team, forcing me to leave the United States immediately."

Yang Yi sighed, "I met with Mr. Hayes four times, made twenty-one phone calls, but I lost contact with him after the last meeting; no one contacted me. I didn’t know, I didn’t know he died of a heart attack—I found that out from an information broker."

Yang Yi picked up his Coke and took another sip, a small one, because the soda was gone again, then he spread his hands, "Could I get another Coke? Speaking has made me really thirsty."
