Chapter 951: Chapter 956: Straight to the Point
Virginia, Langley.
Yang Yi didn’t choose to reveal his identity at a CIA workstation; he went directly to the United States, to Virginia, Langley, which is the headquarters of the CIA.
Risking it all, but Yang Yi didn’t feel particularly nervous, but rather a mix of excitement, tension, and slow-building anticipation, not unlike the feelings of an actor about to take the stage.
The CIA headquarters didn’t look particularly imposing, and at a glance, the security didn’t seem overwhelmingly strict from the outside. But that was just the facade; in reality... the security wasn’t particularly tight.
Yang Yi walked straight towards the CIA’s main entrance, drawing near to the door when he was stopped by a sentinel.
"Halt! Show your identification or turn around and leave."
The CIA headquarters had soldiers on duty, but the one stopping Yang Yi was a staffer in a suit instead of a military uniform.
Yang Yi didn’t proceed any further; he said in a deep voice, "There’s an emergency. Contact the CIA staff immediately. I have an important matter to discuss with them in person."
"State your identity!"
Yang Yi thought he might need to ’face slap’ now—something that usually only happens in novels.
The guard barred the way, and after he was talked at for a stretch, the guard might get a harsh lesson. Hmm, he wondered if that would be the case.
"I’m on a secret mission and cannot reveal my identity. Contact your superior right away."
The man in the suit with an earpiece fell silent.
After a moment, the earpiece-wearing individual pressed his earpiece, whispered a few words after turning around, and then said to Yang Yi, "Please follow me."
Just like that?
Yang Yi couldn’t believe how simply he had entered the main gate of the CIA headquarters. He was ushered inside, walked down a corridor, and the person leading the way knocked on a door before pushing it open.
It was an office. A middle-aged man sat behind the desk, looking up at Yang Yi as he took a seat. He then pointed at the badge on his chest and loudly said, "CIA Management Security Section. You claim to be on a secret mission? Okay, I don’t want to hear any nonsense. Prove your identity now."
Yang Yi fell silent, hesitating somewhat.
The middle-aged office occupant smiled. He was in no hurry and simply chuckled as he watched Yang Yi. "If you’re joking, I can have you thrown in jail for ten years on any charge I fancy. You’ll regret coming here."
Yang Yi exhaled deeply and said, "I’m on a top secret mission. I require a meeting with Director Ryan Brenner or Deputy Director Porter McLaughlin to reveal my identity."
"Are you messing with me? You want to meet the Director? Haha, ha, I’d like to meet him too. Listen, buddy, I don’t know if you’re on a mission, but if you’re asking to see the Director, there are only two possibilities: either you’re an idiot who thinks you can see the CIA Director just by saying a few words, or you’re a madman who doesn’t know what you’re talking about."
Yang Yi spread his hands with a pained expression, "The problem is I’m neither an idiot nor a madman. I know I should report to my superior, but the issue is that my direct supervisor is dead."
"Hurry up, don’t waste time. If you can’t prove your identity, I’ll have to throw you in jail on charges of endangering national security."
Yang Yi shrugged and said, "Well, given the current circumstances, I have no other choice but to reveal my identity here. Um, my name is Eric Wang. I’m on a special mission by order of Jason Moore Haye, top secret level. My file code is EU11..."
"Stop! Stop right there!"
The man behind the desk waved his hands continuously, finally taking things seriously. He shouted, "Top secret level?"
"Top secret level."
"Buddy, take him to the reception room."
The office worker instructed the one who brought Yang Yi in and then said to Yang Yi, "I need to make a call. Since it’s top secret level, they should talk to you about it. Buddy, I hope you’re not joking, otherwise... you’ll really be in a bad state..."
Yang Yi stood up and was escorted to the reception room.
The so-called reception room was more of an interrogation room, albeit not for interrogating criminals. It was just highly secured, soundproofed, and equipped with a lot of cameras to record every word of the conversation.
By this time, the people dealing with Yang Yi weren’t just the sentries at the door.
Yang Yi was led into the reception room by two stern-faced individuals, who then offered him a cup of coffee. By the time he finished his coffee and the second cup had gone cold, someone finally arrived.
A slightly overweight middle-aged man entered the reception room with an assistant. He sat down opposite Yang Yi across the long table and said directly, "I am Walter Dulles, head of the CIA Management Security Section. Now you may reveal your identity."
Yang Yi, poker-faced, replied, "My name is Eric Wang, assigned by Jason Moore Haye to a secret mission in Europe. My file number is EU119527AC20. My mission is top secret, and I can discuss the details only after meeting the specified person."
Walter gestured with his hand and spoke gravely, "Verify this."
His words, of course, weren’t addressed to Yang Yi.
Yang Yi remained silent, and so did Walter. After a momentary wait, his assistant whispered to Walter, "Archives found. The file was created personally by Deputy Director Haye. It requires a password to access."
Walter looked at Yang Yi; he no longer doubted Yang Yi’s identity. Actually, he hadn’t really doubted it from the start because anyone who dared to walk into CIA headquarters claiming to be on a secret mission—if it weren’t true—was certainly an idiot.
Walter smiled at Yang Yi and said, "Welcome home. So, you returned for a reason?"
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Yes, I need to report directly to Director Ryan Brenner or even Deputy Director Porter McLaughlin first."
Walter chuckled, "Report directly to the Director? Oh no, buddy, Deputy Director Haye has passed away. The only thing that can fully confirm your identity is the file. I have the authority to access top secret content, so I need the file password from you."
Yang Yi sighed. After pondering for a moment, he suddenly said, "I am tired, truly tired. So, are you one of Aaron’s people?"
Walter was taken aback. "What did you say?"
"Are our conversations here being recorded?"
"Yes."
"Can it be turned off?"
"Turn off all the recording equipment."
Yang Yi breathed a sigh of relief, then he said to Walter, "I don’t know if you’re one of Aaron’s people, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll tell you. My mission is to investigate CIA Deputy Director Aaron. Jason Moore Haye suspected he was a KGB mole. That’s my mission; the file password is..."
