Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 930 - 935: The War of the Spies

Chapter 930: Chapter 935: The War of the Spies

A hush fell, and Yang Yi finally revealed his entire plan, which then stunned everyone.

Annastasia stared at Yang Yi, and with a puzzled look on her face, she said, "You’re rich, holding more wealth than ordinary people could even dream of. You have power—if your goal weren’t the demise of the Grey-cloaked People, but to attain power instead, you could become one of the most powerful people in the world. You’re young, you have someone you love and who loves you back. What reason do you have to abandon all of this merely for an opportunity that seems so ethereal?"

Yang Yi smiled wryly, and with a look of helplessness, he replied, "Haven’t I told you it’s about ideals? Do I need any other reason?"

Annastasia said earnestly, "To abandon everything for an ideal might be comprehensible, but why do you hold such an ideal? What drives you to achieve it?"

Yang Yi’s smile faded.

After a moment of silence, Yang Yi spoke lightly, "Some suffer for lack of hope, others due to the harshness of reality. Some suffer from poverty. The sources of suffering are diverse. My pain stems from memory, from memories both wonderful and agonizing. Not talking about something does not mean I have forgotten it. For me, the worst thing is having too good a memory, such a good memory that there are too many things I wish to forget but can’t."

Annastasia sighed and said, "I understand."

Yang Yi gave a bitter smile and continued, "What meaning is there in revenge? To cast aside everything I have, to forego so many precious and beautiful things for revenge... Surely my deceased parents wouldn’t want to see me like this. They definitely wouldn’t. Yet, if I don’t do this, I will continue to suffer, unceasingly suffer. No matter what I gain, it won’t free me. Does hatred have meaning? Does revenge have meaning?"

He asked himself, and he answered himself.

Yang Yi’s expression was one of sorrow as he said, "No meaning. In my eyes, all of this is meaningless. Even if it had meaning, parents would never want to see their child pay so steep a price for their sake. But what can I do? I have no choice!"

Kate began to cry. She lowered her head and started to sob while Xiao Ran had a look of helplessness on her face.

Yang Yi spoke softly, "I know I’m being selfish. My desire for revenge isn’t just about revenge; it’s so I can free myself from unending pain. We all gathered here for various reasons, but you, you have no feud with the Grey-cloaked People. Had it not been for my selfishness, you could have enjoyed the rest of your lives with money you couldn’t spend, everything you wanted..."

"Stop!"

Xiao Ran harshly interrupted Yang Yi, and then she pointed at him and yelled, "Shut up, shut up! I’m telling you to shut up!"

Yang Yi sighed softly and said, "Let me finish, because I will never speak of this again after today. So, let me finish."

Yang Yi pondered for a moment, and then he continued, "I led the Organization of Water in combat against the Grey-cloaked People for my own ideals. Looking at the current situation, there’s no hope of victory if we keep going like this. So I have to try to infiltrate the Grey-cloaked People. If I succeed, you’ll have to keep fighting with me. But at least I can tell you there’s a chance to win. I’m not leading you into a hopeless war, a war without any chance of victory that will only lead to your deaths."

Xiao Ran took a deep breath, as if wanting to say something, but ultimately she turned her head away and looked up.

Yang Yi started to smile and said, "If I fail, and if I’m not mistaken, then you won’t be exposed. Let me die with all that’s exposed, let everything between me and the Grey-cloaked People end. Everything we have now was earned together, with our lives. You can peacefully enjoy your share, or if you wish to continue with the plan, that’s up to you. The Grey-cloaked People have nothing to do with you anymore. How you spend the rest of your lives is your business. Uh, I’ll do my best to ensure the Grey-cloaked People don’t get a chance to interrogate me, and I’ll try my best to not give them a chance to discover you. I can’t make any guarantees, so all I can say is I’ll do my best."

Yang Yi smiled gleefully, "I know I’m a genius. I know I could have had a bright future, but once I knew what I had to do, I stepped onto this path of no return without hesitation. The moment I thought about becoming a spy, I was prepared mentally. I know what I’m doing and I know the price I’m paying. I know, so why should all of you look so sorrowful? You should be happy for me. Now that I’ve finished speaking, the least you could do is applaud my perfect plan, right?"

He had finally said everything, though Yang Yi had actually not intended to reveal some of it.

Sobbing, Kate said, "You want to settle all accounts with everyone? Can I ever clear the debt I owe you? Can you ever clear your debts to others?"

Yang Yi said with an air of resignation, "Don’t be like that, I wasn’t planning on any romance, it’s just... the fact of the matter is, I was originally just an ordinary person, although I’m a genius, and pretty handsome too! But I’ve had nothing to do with the world of spies, and to have achieved everything I have in just a few years is already the limit of what I can do. We can’t keep getting lucky forever, and in this war, I finally see a glimmer of opportunity that I have to seize."

Annastasia looked triumphant as she said, "You see this as a war?"

Yang Yi nodded and replied, "Yes, the war between me and the Grey-cloaked People. I’ve gone from an ordinary person to a spy, from a rookie in the world of spies to someone with the strength I have now... a successful spy. Now I have my own Spy Organization, and the Grey-cloaked People are also a Spy Organization; since this is a war among spies, then I have to use the methods of a spy to see this war through to victory or death."

Anna started clapping and smiled as she said, "Exciting, being a spy myself, I’ll join you in this espionage war. Even though we may be outmatched, I still believe it’s a war we can win. Plus, I finally have a clear life goal now, a difficult but not hopeless war, very thrilling, very nice."

Zhang Yong sighed and then stepped in front of Yang Yi, clutched his shoulder with his hand, squeezing so hard that Yang Yi had to bend over from the pain, Zhang Yong said angrily, "Damn it, I fell for your trap!"

"Ouch ouch ouch! Let go, let go, Brother Yong, let go!"

Zhang Yong bent down with Yang Yi and then said through gritted teeth, "You bastard, I shouldn’t have learned to play cards from you. All that card counting and tracking, wasting so much time and now you tell me we’re off to risk our lives, damn! How are you going to settle what you owe me if you die? Who am I going to find to pay off this debt?"

Yang Yi didn’t dare retaliate or dodge; all he could manage was to wheeze out, "I won’t die, I’m not stupid. Didn’t you understand what I just said? I’m confident. I’m such a coward, would I be willing to go on a suicide mission? Let go, Brother Yong!"

Zhang Yong still refused to release his grip, his sneer continuing, "You’d better not die. I want to see how you win this damn spy war. And after you win, you better have a good explanation for me, or else, ha..."

Anton said with impatience, "Let him go already. You can wait for his explanation, but I have a suggestion. Learning card counting from him is a waste of time; you’d be better off learning how to cheat and swindle from me. I guarantee you’ll win money hands down."

Zhang Yong looked at Anton and challenged, "You mean that? You promise you can teach me?"

Anton, while coldly smirking at Yang Yi, said, "I’ll join you in keeping an eye on this self-proclaimed suave bastard, ensuring he doesn’t die. In the meantime, I’ll teach you how to cheat at cards, and ensure you learn it."

Boer’s expression changed drastically, then he said to Zhang Yong, "You’re banned from playing cards with me from now on, and that goes for you too, Anton. You’re both prohibited from my card table!"

Brian sighed and lamented, "Ah, what a pity, can’t play cards with the God of Gamblers anymore. No one to give me free money now."

Zhang Yong retorted, "My nickname isn’t ’God of Gamblers’ anymore, it’s ’Lucky,’ haven’t I told you?"

Anton smiled and commented, "Lucky? That’s not a good nickname either. Sounds like a horse’s or a little dog’s name, lacks impact. You’d be better off being called the ’Card Shark.’"

Finally, Zhang Yong let go of Yang Yi’s shoulder, then spat and said with disdain, "You’re an idiot, aren’t you? Who’s going to want to play cards with me if I’m called ’Card Shark’? ’Lucky’ is better; makes people think I win money just because I’m lucky."

Kate wiped away her tears, looking at Yang Yi with a smile, "Don’t worry, Brother Yong, I’ll gamble with you. I’ve got more money than I can spend or lose."

Xiao Ran said annoyed, "I’d remind you that we should be contacting the cleaners first. You’re all going crazy, but the cleaners might not join your madness, really can’t stand it, mad, all of you, a bunch of lunatics!"

Brian grumbled, "Going crazy together isn’t so bad, now that I have a lot of old buddies to join me in the madness. Taking revenge on Aaron isn’t just a solo mission, the Magic Box Squadron is duty-bound!"

After muttering that, Brian suddenly raised his arms and proclaimed, "You will see a fully equipped Magic Box assault team. I’ll show you just how terrifying a complete Magic Box squad can be! Even though we’re just a small team right now."

Annastasia gently looped her arm through Brian’s and said with admiration, "I know, I know how formidable you all are. If I hadn’t known the terror of the Pandora Box and your value, why would I have been sent to turn you traitor? It’s because the KGB understood that apart from this method, there was really no other way to neutralize your threat."

After Brian and Annastasia had finished flaunting their bygone affection, Zhang Yong pointed at Brian in a warning and said, "We’ve all been mixed up in this for so long, there’s something I must tell you. In the future, once my gambling skills are perfected, you don’t have to gamble with me, but you must never stop your subordinates from gambling with me. We’re brothers, right? Can you do that?"
