Chapter 93: Chapter 92: One Man Destroys a Nation

There’s still a whole day left before it’s time to walk the yard.

Life in prison is truly unbearable, and it’s even more so when you’re anxious to get something done.

Unbearable as it may be, he had to endure it. After all, it was Yang Yi who was in prison.

There might be a chance to meet Zhang Yong during lunch and dinner, but after two meals, Yang Yi had yet to see a trace of him, which made him curious about how Zhang Yong managed it.

It wasn’t until the next day’s yard time that Yang Yi once again saw Zhang Yong.

It was the same old spot; Zhang Yong seemed never to have changed places. But this time, he wasn’t studying playing cards. Upon seeing Yang Yi, he simply smiled and said, "Everything’s been taken care of. You’ll be moving cells in a bit, and from now on, we’ll be rooming together."

This was a stroke of luck—Yang Yi had been worrying about only having one hour each day to meet with Zhang Yong. Now, he’d be living with him.

"That’s great!"

Seeing Yang Yi’s look of extreme surprise, Zhang Yong smiled and then casually said, "I gave Danny a call and chewed him out yesterday, but I also told him I’ve started teaching you. I’ve cleared the debt I owed him, so I’ve got to teach you well. Otherwise, wouldn’t that be deceiving him?"

"You can contact the outside?"

"Of course, that’s too simple."

Yang Yi figured that if Buddy could get a hold of a phone, then Zhang Yong certainly could make calls outside even more easily, and that Zhang Yong must be in constant contact with the outside world.

Zhang Yong leaned back to find a more comfortable position, resting his hand on the back of the bench and said casually, "When I called Danny, it was just to confirm your identity and to give him an earful. As for your situation, you should be the one to talk about that, so go ahead, tell me why you want to become a spy."

Some things can’t be hidden nor should they be.

"Do you know about the Grey-cloaked People? They’re a spy organization, and they’re my enemies. My parents were killed by them. I want to take revenge, I want to destroy the organization."

Zhang Yong chuckled, "One man to overthrow a nation."

"Huh? What?"

Zhang Yong sighed as he looked at Yang Yi, "One man to overthrow a nation—we usually just say that, but you want to take down the Grey-cloaked People. Haha, you must realize that they can be more difficult to deal with than most countries in this world. When you say you want to destroy the Grey-cloaked People, isn’t it like one man overthrowing a nation?"

Yang Yi smiled, "It’s difficult, but I’ll take it slow. I’m still young, I have plenty of time."

Zhang Yong frowned, "Being a spy, I know a little about that too. I can teach you some things about spying, but the real specialized stuff is beyond me. Take intelligence analysis, for example; that alone requires a long time to learn and practice, and you can’t get it without going through a specialized agency."

Yang Yi spoke in a grave tone, "What I don’t know, I can learn from others. I can’t fight an organization all by myself, so I’ll inevitably need to build my own team. I’ll leave the specialized tasks to the experts, but I at least need to understand a bit of everything. If I’m clueless, how can I lead others?"

Zhang Yong laughed, "You sure are ambitious."

"If I weren’t, I would have given up by now, and talking about destroying the Grey-cloaked People would be meaningless."

Zhang Yong smiled and said, "I don’t care much for keeping my methods a secret, nor do I believe in hoarding my knowledge. If you want to learn combat, I’ll teach you. Assassination? I can teach you that too. Even if you want to learn warfare, I can still teach you. As for spy stuff, I don’t really know much, just bits and pieces. So, what can you do now?"

Yang Yi immediately replied, "Right now, I can’t do anything."

"Huh? That’s not right, though. Didn’t you just kill someone known as Boxing King before you ended up here? I know about that guy; he was seriously skilled. You killed him and still you say you can’t do anything?"

Yang Yi pointed to his head, "My best weapon is my intelligence. I didn’t kill Boxing King with sheer fighting prowess, but because I planned for a long time and created a killing scheme that nailed him in one go. The process was difficult and dangerous. If anything unexpected had happened, I would’ve been the one to die. But if I were stronger, I could have taken him out in a few moves. So to protect my genius brain, of course, I need a strong body."

Zhang Yong laughed, "It sure is easier to talk to a smart person—they like to take shortcuts. But by the looks of it, I think you won’t need much pushing."

After finishing, Zhang Yong slowly asked, "Let me ask you something, how did you feel after you killed Boxing King?"

Yang Yi thought carefully and then said in a deep voice, "Nothing special, I felt a bit excited and proud that despite my weak body, I killed Boxing King with my mind. Other than that, it was a sense of satisfaction, yeah, satisfaction. But really, there wasn’t much of a special feeling."

Zhang Yong immediately asked, "Like killing a chicken, a fish?"

"Uh, I haven’t killed a chicken, I don’t know if it feels the same..."

"No fear, no regret, no guilt, not worried about any punishment?"

"None of that, not at all what you described."

Zhang Yong sighed, looking at Yang Yi, "You’re naturally cut out for killing. If you became a hitman, you wouldn’t need any training. Many assassins take years to develop the kind of psychological quality you have. I really can’t figure out what kind of environment you grew up in. You’re not a born psychopath, are you?"

Yang Yi shook his head, "I don’t want to kill people. I’m just responding to threats, defending myself. If someone wants my life, then of course I have to take theirs first."

Zhang Yong laughed, "Now I understand. It’s good that you have this mindset; I won’t have to toughen you up psychologically. But with that mindset, you could easily become a freak, a menace to society."

Yang Yi spread his hands, "I guess I’m not that bad, I don’t have an antisocial personality."

Zhang Yong said sternly, "Not now, but you might in the future. As you kill more and more people, you’ll lose your respect for life. You could become a cold-blooded animal, killing someone just because they bumped you unintentionally or cursed you once. I’ve seen people like that. So the first rule is to maintain respect for life. Before you decide to kill someone, think about whether it’s really necessary. Can you do that?"

Yang Yi pondered for a moment and said, "I can, of course I can."

Zhang Yong laughed, "You’d better. Because if you can’t, that would mean you have already become a cold-hearted, psychotic freak. Lesson one, at least keep your humanity. Without humanity, you’re just a madman. Believe me, no one wants to join a madman in creating anything."
