Chapter 925: Chapter 930: Grand Plan
They simply couldn’t come to terms.
When it came to business, it wasn’t really business at all, was it? It was Boer using his resources to bully and seize by force, but since he considered it business, there was no way Yang Yi could make Boer yield.
Boer’s stance was too firm.
If Yang Yi nodded, it could be done; if Yang Yi didn’t nod, then it couldn’t be done. But the problem was, once Yang Yi nodded, he would have to do things according to Boer’s rules.
If this had been a trivial matter solely for making money, Yang Yi could have stood his ground, completely ignoring Boer’s so-called style and rules. However, the acquisition of Dart America Company was not just advantageous for the Organization of Water, but it also could solve the organization’s pressing problems.
And so, Yang Yi had to submit.
"Boer, I think your ability to grow your business so large is related to your character. When doing business, you have the ruthlessness of a wolf that doesn’t recognize kin."
Boer turned his head to one side, dismissively saying, "Are you questioning my morals? You might be disappointed. I won’t feel the slightest unease or guilt because, in my view, business should be conducted just like this. If you were to do business, heh, you’d die horribly!"
"No, no, no, I’m not questioning your morals. I just want to say... you’re so familiar with Dart America Company, could it be that you’ve known about this company for a long time?"
Boer curled his lips, and after a moment, he nodded, "Yes, Dart America Company has been a client of mine for years. I’ve provided most of their loans, I’m familiar with this company, and with Ned Dart too. We’ve even dined together twice. What, are you trying to say I shouldn’t kill someone I know?"
"No, that’s not what I mean. Just saying... you won."
Yang Yi shook his head helplessly, then addressed Boer, "You win. I want to say I have a conscience, but you’re right, I can’t be wasteful and extravagant. Since you regard this as business, then go ahead, follow the rules of the business world. Because after all, I can’t replace you."
Boer exhaled, "Good, I really was worried that you’d have a moral scruple and be willing to spend a few hundred million dollars more just to satisfy it. Now that you agree, I’ll start the process. I need your cooperation."
"No problem, this matter is important and must be completed quickly. What do you need me to do?"
Boer thought for a moment, then said, "I need you to appoint someone you trust to take your place. This company’s headquarters is in the United States; we can’t not send anyone. No, let’s be clear about this—I don’t want to actually control all your financial power. That would bring me close to death, just like what happened to me last time. And I know when you decide to kill me, no one will save me."
Yang Yi said gravely, "Boer, I trust you, I really do trust you. And you know, I’m not that kind of person!"
Boer smiled, "Not now, but what about the future? You’re not, but what about others? Yang, I believe you’re a good person who values relationships right now, but none of us knows what might happen in the future. So why not establish a mechanism that can save my life and keep our friendship going before anything actually happens?"
Yang Yi sighed softly.
Boer still wore an indifferent expression, "I’m a white glove, and I should have the awareness that a white glove needs. Initially, I didn’t, but now I know what to do. Even Jethro, that arms dealer, knows what the path to longevity is. Do you think I’m not as smart as Jethro?"
Yang Yi sighed softly, his face serious, "You’re very direct, and I admit you’re right. However, I still hope you understand that I’m not someone who burns bridges after crossing them, nor am I overly suspicious. I too hope to see my friends succeed. I really... trust you, and I’m willing to support you, to help you with all my might. I don’t know what else to say, but I hope you know that."
Boer was silent for a moment, then he looked at Yang Yi and smiled. After standing up to embrace Yang Yi, he said softly, "I know, I’ve seen it in you. That’s why I hope to maintain our friendship, rather than having to force you to kill me someday, or being forced to find a way to eliminate you to protect myself. So..."
He patted Yang Yi on the back, released him, and then said with a serious face, "So give me Chris. He’s the only one in the Organization of Water who meets my requirements. Let him run Dart America Company on your behalf, and in the future, help him step to the forefront."
Yang Yi frowned, "Chris? Is he up for it?"
Boer laughed heartily, "Trust me, Chris is the only person in the Organization of Water who’s cut out for business. You’ll lose an incompetent spy, but I’ll gain an excellent manager and an outstanding con artist."
Yang Yi let out a breath, "All right, Chris is yours. His identity has some issues in the United States, but I’ll resolve that. I’ll make it so he can make public appearances in the United States."
Boer smiled, then continued with a serious face, "It’s not only about managing a private jet service company. He will have to oversee a bank, at least on the surface."
Yang Yi’s eyes widened, "Him?"
Boer then took out a document and said in a somber tone, "Since you’ve agreed to the acquisition of Dart America Company, take a look at this. This is our main goal."
Yang Yi glanced at the document and said in surprise, "A... bank!"
"Yes, a bank," Boer said with a smile. "The subprime crisis caused three of Wall Street’s top five investment banks to collapse, and dozens of smaller banks have failed. This bank has struggled for years, but they’re finished. We’re preparing five to eight billion US dollars to acquire this bank. Then we’ll have a foothold on Wall Street and can proceed with our money-laundering plans."
"Our plan? It’s clearly your plan, but... the bank seems to be operating quite well. Why would it fail? Oh, I see now, what you just said..."
"Yes," Boer said with a smile. "Spread rumors, create panic, fabricate crisis, and then it will collapse. The key thing is that we have money, lots of money! Do you understand? In the financial market, a hundred billion dollars is like a nuclear bomb. With a hundred dollars, you can just get by; with a thousand dollars, you might make a hundred; with one hundred million dollars, you can easily make fifty million. But with ten billion dollars, heh, you can make fifty billion. Brother, that’s the effect of scale. That’s the leverage you have with scale."
Yang Yi slapped the documents in his hand, "This is a hostile takeover, isn’t it."
"In the hands of fools, it’s a destructive act; in the hands of someone capable, it becomes a hostile takeover. But in my hands, brother, it’s just an acquisition."
Having said that with a hint of pride, Boer asked with a smile, "So, are you willing to put all your assets into supporting me on this big deal?"
Yang Yi thought for a moment, then slapped the documents in his hand again and said with a smile, "Since you’re so confident, why not make a big bet? For people like us, playing cards with Brother Yong is just collecting money, and playing in the casino is a pastime. But betting your entire fortune to acquire a bank, that’s gambling. I don’t like gambling, but I won’t shrink back from a bet that decides fate. I dare to bet!"
