Chapter 921: Chapter 926 Aftereffects

Zhang Yong had a defeated expression, while Bill was brimming with enthusiasm.

Yang Yi stood there, not knowing what to say.

Finally, Brian said, "Bill! Stop provoking Stone Statue!"

Bill looked innocent and said, "Provoking Stone Statue? I didn’t provoke him. How could I provoke him?"

Zhang Yong suddenly said, "Buddy, it looks like you’re doing quite well for yourself."

Zhang Yong’s abrupt comment shifted Bill’s attention immediately to him, but Bill responded to Brian, "Boss, everyone here can be trusted, right?"

Brian reluctantly nodded his head.

Bill’s face lit up as he laughed, "Brother, you’ve got a good eye, look at me, I’m decked out in brand names, I run a company, but it’s just a shell company, and it’s always losing money. But how come I still seem rich? That’s because the money I robbed from banks, buddy. Standing in front of you is a millionaire!"

Having said that, Bill immediately turned to Brian, laughed, and said, "I’ve told anyone who would listen for many years now that this has always been my biggest secret, and my plan was to reveal the answer after the reunion of the brothers. Now you all know, yes, I really did rob banks! Stone Statue, I know you’re listening, are you interested?"

Brian pinched the bridge of his nose.

Still enthusiastic, Bill said, "God, keeping this secret was so difficult, you know, I rob a bank every six months, each time in a different place. There are fifty states in the United States, and I’ve already hit twenty-nine of them. Every time is meticulously planned, with long periods of scouting and reconnaissance. Plus, I always keep the takings around one million dollars because that’s a signature element of my operations."

Brian sighed, "God, Bill, you really did rob banks."

Bill, brimming with pride, said, "Of course I did it, because I don’t have a pension, which, I have to say, is your fault, boss. But that’s not the point. The point is my operations are flawless, because up to now, no one has discovered me. I have a company, which allows me to drive fancy cars and live in mansions without raising suspicions. I often go to Las Vegas because I need to turn that cash into legitimate savings. Yes, I launder money through a casino that I’ve been working with for a long time."

Zhang Yong, greatly interested, asked, "You launder money through a casino?"

"Yeah."

"I often go to Las Vegas too, I love the casinos!"

Bill slung an arm around Zhang Yong’s shoulders, laughing heartily, "Then we might have crossed paths in a casino, haha."

Yang Yi seized an opening and quickly said, "Let’s go inside to talk, guys. Why hang around the yard all day?"

Bill and Zhang Yong walked off arm in arm, Bill cheerily asked, "Which casino is your favorite?"

"I wouldn’t say I have a particular favorite, but comparatively... I frequent MGM a bit more. Oh, come on, we need to have a good talk. Do you often rob banks?"

"Yes, I’ve always thought how great it would be to pull a job with my brothers. Really! I’ve always worked alone because I don’t trust anyone, but of course, I can trust my old brothers. God, do you know that feeling of pure achievement? The joy of pulling off each job, but having no one to share your happiness with. Do you know how awful that feels...?"

Zhang Yong and Bill, with their arms around each other’s shoulders, walked into a room, leaving behind a crowd staring at their retreating figures.

Brian let out a sigh, then said to Yang Yi in a low voice, "Bill... he’s skilled, truly."

Yang Yi nodded and said, "It’s evident, having robbed twenty-nine states, meaning he’s robbed twenty-nine banks. It’s clear he’s skilled."

Just then, Stone Statue’s door opened again, and Stone Statue walked out carrying a small bag.

Brian sighed heavily and spread his hands, "Stone Statue..."

Stone Statue shook his head.

Paul whispered, "Stone Statue, don’t be like this."

Stone Statue still shook his head.

At that moment, Black Jack stepped forward and embraced Stone Statue, then patted him on the back.

Jackson followed suit and embraced Stone Statue before quietly asking, "Are you leaving?"

"Yes."

Jackson, looking helpless, said, "Don’t be like that. You know we can’t do without you. I was hoping you’d have my back, not someone else’s."

Stone Statue seemed hesitant, but just then, hearty laughter erupted from the room that Zhang Yong and Bill had just entered.

Stone Statue took a deep breath and said sternly, "I have to go!"

After speaking, feeling his tone might not be grave enough, he grabbed Jackson’s arm and said solemnly, "I’m sorry! But I have to leave right now!"

Bill was right; he did have a way to make the usually reticent Stone Statue speak up, even in his absence.

Brian helplessly said, "Don’t be like this, Stone Statue. You know Bill means no harm, and besides, I’ll deploy you separately. I won’t give him the chance to bother you."

Stone Statue looked at Brian, then said with a heavy tone, "You didn’t tell me he would be here!"

Brian shrugged, "I hadn’t been in touch with him when I contacted you. So it’s not like I meant to keep it from you... All right, I shouldn’t have kept it from you. But now it’s different from before, Stone Statue. You don’t have to always be together. He might be here while you need to be in Europe. Trust me, he really won’t get the chance to bother you."

Stone Statue didn’t seem to buy it, and Brian hurriedly said, "In any situation, I won’t allow you two to be alone. If you’re together, what I mean is like now, I’ll arrange your rooms as far apart as possible. I swear to God I will never again assign him as your wingman. Okay?"

Black Jack said in a solemn voice, "Stone Statue, stay with us. We need you, and this is where the life you want is!"

Stone Statue hesitated for a long time before relenting.

Pointing at Brian’s nose, Stone Statue said sternly, "You promise!"

"I promise, I swear!"

Stone Statue wavered for a while longer, then, without another word, finally turned and went back into his room.

Brian let out a long sigh, while Paul simply wiped his sweat and whispered, "That was close, thank goodness."

Yang Yi cautiously whispered, "What happened? I mean, what happened in the past?"

Brian sighed and then said softly, "I made a serious mistake once. My biggest blunder was assigning Bill as Stone Statue’s wingman, that is, letting Bill accompany him for protection. Bill truly is skilled, but you’ve just seen the aftermath."
