Chapter 916: Chapter 921: Your People Are No Good
The thing about people is, it doesn’t always matter how smart they are; what really matters is whether they pick the right side to stand on.
Pretending to have powerful connections is something anyone can do; isn’t claiming to know someone important just a typical example of trying to impress by association? Whether or not Mughal is the United States’ lapdog doesn’t matter; the important thing is that he knows Nicholas can’t beat Big Ivan—that’s all that counts. As for how he explains himself to the Americans, well, that’s something Nicholas will have to survive to deal with.
And does it really matter if Jethro has an actual connection to Big Ivan? As long as Mughal believes that Jethro is linked to Big Ivan, that’s good enough.
Of course, Jethro really could have some ties to Big Ivan.
Even though both are arms dealers and competitors, Deyo and Big Ivan hadn’t always been at each other’s throats.
In the past, Big Ivan had gotten supplies from Deyo, and Deyo had gotten supplies from Big Ivan. It’s impossible for one person to completely monopolize the market; neither can the arms market. Each has their own customer base, and if they don’t have the goods in hand while having buyers, it’s only natural to adjust and acquire the necessary merchandise.
It’s fair to say that Nicholas is the main culprit behind stirring up the conflict between Deyo and Big Ivan. Yang Yi didn’t believe that, once the news reached Big Ivan’s ears, he would still tolerate Nicholas’s existence.
So, there’s no need to personally get involved in everything. If you can just follow in Big Ivan’s footsteps and pick up a ready-made bargain, why not do it?
As long as Jethro can stabilize the Middle East, stabilize Mughal, then it’s half the battle won.
Speaking of which, why did Yang Yi need to keep Mughal around? It was because previously, Jethro only bought and never sold; he didn’t have a team directly responsible for transactions. And arms dealing isn’t something you can just enter into by hiring a couple of salespeople. So, he needed to keep an established channel, a mature team—even though there was some risk, it would allow for a rapid takeover of the market.
Yang Yi had already done so much; if Jethro couldn’t control the situation now, then he deserved to die.
Yang Yi stood up, he patted Jethro on the shoulder, and said, "Buddy, there’s nothing left for us to do here. You take your time talking to Mughal; we’re going to head off first. See you later."
Yang Yi’s style was downright audacious, but the more he behaved this way, the more terrified Mughal became.
Mughal hesitated for a moment then called out loudly, "Please wait a second, these goods... do you need my help delivering them?"
Why did Yang Yi and his group buy guns? It was to deal with Barbosa, but now, with Barbosa dead, what did they need the guns for?
Yang Yi smiled, then pointed at Jethro, and said, "He needs this shipment, and the payment is still due. Although we are now partners, even brothers should settle accounts clearly. It’s better to keep the books straight, oh, and I’ll take this."
Yang Yi picked up a knife, a small straight knife, a cheap piece from Cold Steel, then he smiled at Mughal, "This is all I need, goodbye."
The guns were no longer needed, nor were the night vision goggles; consider them support for Jethro. Jethro wouldn’t leave immediately; he needed to gather his own crew, a group of enforcers completely loyal to him.
Yang Yi casually left the building, checked behind him to see that no one was following, and then asked Brian, "What’s next?"
Brian spread his hands out and said, "Next? Next is of course to go to sleep."
Brian seemed somewhat annoyed because his people hadn’t all arrived yet, and the business had already been done.
The anticipated smashing start was gone; the chance for a perfect debut lost. You tell me, wasn’t Brian annoyed?
"So we leave first thing tomorrow morning? Just take any flight out of Baghdad, and once out of Baghdad, there will be plenty of flights."
After Yang Yi finished speaking, Brian sighed and said, "What’s the rush? I’m still waiting for someone. It can’t take too long; everyone will be here by tomorrow afternoon."
"Fine, once your people are all here, get in the car."
Six people split into two cars. Originally, the three from the Magic Box Squadron were to ride in one car, but Zhang Yong kept making eyes at Brian, so Brian ended up joining Yang Yi and Zhang Yong in their car.
Once the car got moving, Zhang Yong, looking puzzled, said, "Brian, the guy you found isn’t up to snuff, huh? Can’t even catch a gun—that’s some poor coordination, right?"
Brian replied, annoyed, "He’s a sniper!"
"A sniper should be able to handle it, though. Even snipers get basic training. Look at Little Egg; he was completely clueless at first, and now? Now he fights fiercely, can slit someone’s throat with a piece of wire—you have no idea how weak he was when he first entered prison, knew nothing, could do nothing..."
Yang Yi coughed loudly, interrupting, "You’re getting sidetracked."
"Oh, right, back on topic. Little Egg didn’t go through much training, but now he’s become a Throat-Slitting Maniac. Isn’t that Stone Statue of yours from the Magic Box Squadron? How can he be so clumsy he can’t even catch a gun? How are you running things as a leader? Will you just take anyone?"
Brian exhaled and said, "You don’t understand; he’s a sniper!"
"There you go interrupting again. I know he’s a sniper, but that makes it even worse."
Brian waved his hands and countered, "No, no, no, you’re wrong. Stone Statue is a sniper. His physical abilities are actually not too bad—at least... passable. It’s just that his close combat skills... are indeed a bit weak. No, not weak, extremely weak! But I can say this: if every member of a special forces unit is a jack-of-all-trades, Stone Statue would be the exception. Get what I mean?"
"The best sniper? Better than Gong Yang?"
"..."
"And you’re still saying he’s the best?"
"In close combat, he’s no match for Gong Yang. When it comes to rapid-firing..."
Brian looked contemplative, and Yang Yi said with a touch of surprise, "Comparable?"
"Still not a match..."
Yang Yi and Zhang Yong both made a dismissive gesture.
Brian spoke gravely, "But his long-distance shooting is definitely not inferior to Gong Yang. I can guarantee it with my reputation—Stone Statue’s long-distance shooting is absolutely stronger than Gong Yang’s!"
Zhang Yong, somewhat doubtful, asked, "Really that strong?"
Brian didn’t hesitate, "Before Gong Yang, Stone Statue was the strongest shooter I knew of, bar none. He’s very pure. How pure? So pure that I have to arrange a spotter for him just to protect him, because he’s not fast, doesn’t jump high. Speaking of fighting ability, even Chris could take him down, but when Stone Statue has a gun, then he is invincible!"
Zhang Yong said disdainfully, "Just now you’re talking about not being up to Gong Yang in close combat or shooting speed, and now you say he’s invincible. Please."
"Does sniping require speed?"
After Brian finished speaking, he looked at Zhang Yong disdainfully and said, "Shooting well, firing quickly, firing accurately—does that make someone the best sniper?"
