Chapter 904: Chapter 909: Busy Preparations
Before departure, the two most essential matters were in order, first of which was to gather troops, naturally including Brian and Paul, two of their strong combatants.
The second important matter was to make a phone call.
Deyo had died, but Big Ivan was still unaware that Nicholas was the culprit behind his nephew’s demise. Thus, all Yang Yi needed to do was make a call, instructing Big Ivan to take out Nicholas, which would consequently ruin Nicholas who was fighting Jethro over inheritance.
So simple, so convenient, just a phone call would take care of the most formidable enemy.
However, when Yang Yi made the call, he was shocked to find that Gong Yang’s phone was unreachable.
Unable to contact Gong Yang and the Black Devil’s Yarebin, the channels through which Yang Yi could communicate with Big Ivan were suddenly cut off.
Having put down the phone, Yang Yi shook his head at Annastasia, "Gong Yang’s phone is unreachable; should we wait or try to contact Big Ivan through other channels?"
Not hesitating, Annastasia replied, "We need time, but there’s no telling how long it will take to reach Gong Yang. It’s better to contact Big Ivan by all possible means now. If you want to do Big Ivan a favor, then we should still try to send the message through his people."
Yang Yi quickly made a decision.
He called Jethro in and said to him, "You can contact Big Ivan’s people, right? Can you do it now?"
"I don’t know; after Deyo and Big Ivan went to war, many have gone into hiding for safety," Jethro replied.
"Try it, contact any person you know who can get the message to Big Ivan."
Jethro started making calls in front of Yang Yi.
Soon, Jethro got through to someone and spoke in a grave voice, "Buddy, it’s Jethro. Don’t hang up just yet. I used to work for Deyo, now I’m on my own. I have a very important piece of information to tell you—Nicholas arranged the attack on Ivan in South America. This is my gift to Big Ivan, and now that the war is over, I hope to continue doing business with you."
Jethro didn’t say much and after hanging up, he told Yang Yi, "I only reached one, but he said he also couldn’t reach Big Ivan directly. However, he could pass my message up the line."
Yang Yi, curious, asked, "Is the relationship between arms dealers always so peculiar? Enemies yesterday, friends today?"
Jethro shrugged, "Rivals yesterday, partners today—it’s all the same in business, who would turn against money."
Yang Yi nodded, "Good. How long do you think it will take for this message to reach Big Ivan?"
"I don’t know, this man is not a big shot, I can’t reach anyone else. Order hasn’t been restored yet, I really don’t know when the message will get to Big Ivan."
"Understood."
Yang Yi thought for a moment and then said, "I will release the information through public channels, and throw this news into the intelligence market for free. It will take only a few hours for Big Ivan to get the message. The only regret is that I won’t be able to currying favor with Big Ivan this way."
Jethro smiled, "Favors? Oh, they don’t mean much. Big Ivan knows we’re using him to eliminate Nicholas, so he won’t owe us any favors."
Thinking it made sense, Yang Yi didn’t dwell on the minutiae. He told Jethro, "We’re heading to Iraq. Get ready. I’ll gather our people, and then we’ll depart."
The disadvantage of being few in number was that the Organization of Water had to mobilize everyone for any task; each person was precious. Even though Kate and Xiao Ran weren’t really suitable for operations in the Middle East, they had no choice but to join in.
Who else?
Negotiations with Barbosa required a show of force, not a single combat-capable person should be missing, especially after Roman and Vitali had been injured. Yang Yi felt having a military doctor accompany them was extremely important.
But Roman and Vitali were still in Nice, and Woody couldn’t leave them unattended, or they would die.
Steve couldn’t be taken along, someone needed to stay to keep an eye on him. Annastasia was definitely staying, but she alone wouldn’t be enough; and it was hopeless to expect financial experts like Boer and Norbert to be of help, but Hank was cunning and manipulative, adept at taking risks and daring actions. Though not a fighter, he could certainly help Annastasia watch over Steve.
Then there was the situation in Nice. Having to pull Brian and Paul away and wanting to take Woody, the military doctor, too, left the question of who would care for the wounded.
Yang Yi thought that Chris and Rodriguez could leave one behind, and having a trickster during negotiations might be useful. Rodriguez was loyal, but his capabilities...
He decided to send Rodriguez back to Nice.
As for Woody, if he was to be taken to Iraq, a replacement was needed.
After thinking it through, Yang Yi gave Danny a call.
"Hey, Captain, can you do me a favor and contact that James, the doctor?"
That freakish Ghost Doctor, Yang Yi’s only known replacement choice; skilled and reliable despite his unconventional sexual orientation, "but, don’t tell Vitali and Roman about it."
Having not been in contact for a long time, Danny disdainfully said, "You call me just to ask for favors; can you ever surprise me by saying you’re giving me money?"
Yang Yi had recently acquired a huge fortune, so he immediately offered Danny a surprise.
"Captain, you guessed right. I really do have a surprise for you. Please get Doctor James to France to care for two of our injured until they’re out of danger—two million US dollars if neither dies, half a million if one does. Captain, this time I’m following the rules of the ring, can’t always have you helping for free. Settle this and I’ll pay you a million dollars; how about that, Captain? Fair enough, right?"
Danny instantly replied, "Kid, you’re finally getting it! Wait up; I’ll contact him right now."
"Make it fast, Captain, I’m in a rush here."
Yang Yi hung up the call, and Annastasia softly asked, "Is it reliable?"
"Reliable, definitely reliable; both the referee and the doctor are reliable. Now I’ll call Brian, um, should you call or should I?"
Annastasia smiled, "Of course, you should call. I’m not the boss."
"But your calls are more effective."
Annastasia smiled, "That’s why I need to take care of Brian’s ego more, especially with Paul around. I must let Brian maintain some dignity in front of his brothers."
Yang Yi dialed Brian and then said, "Brian, we’re heading to Iraq. Get ready with Paul and Woody. Once their replacements arrive, we’ll depart."
