Chapter 890: Chapter 895: Everyone Likes a Smart Person

Women conquer the world by conquering men, and men conquer women by conquering the world.

That is the truth.

Although Yang Yi knew that Anna’s repeated provocations had dealt a heavy blow to Brian’s fragile mind, he was unaware that even Paul couldn’t endure being looked down upon any longer.

Yang Yi also didn’t know that under Anna’s provocations, Brian had finally decided to reactivate Pandora Box.

Pandora Box was not merely a trio, as at least a few hundred people had served within this elite squad, which had a history of several decades.

As the CIA’s elite team, members inevitably joined and left over the years; it was impossible for it to consist of just a few individuals for decades. Even under Brian’s command, the unit had dozens of operatives.

Had it not been for the pressing time constraints, Brian would never have settled for only Charles and Paul as assistants. Of course, they were his most trusted, and they had always been loyal to him, but with more time, Brian certainly would have sought help from additional subordinates.

Now, Brian was planning to try, and Paul strongly supported him in attempting to find more helpers.

In short, both Brian and Paul felt their pride was at stake from the stimulations they faced, and they wanted their former colleagues to come and show Annastasia, in particular, just how formidable Pandora Box truly was.

But even if Brian had informed Yang Yi of his decision now, Yang Yi would definitely not have cared.

Because Yang Yi was in a car with Xiao Ran, and they were driving out of Nice, with Anton and Hans’s car following close behind, and behind them was a car with Kate and Annastasia.

All their guns, all their weapons, were in the police car, of course, driven by Anton and Hans.

Steve was scared out of his wits; he now had no doubt that he would be killed. For a clever person, especially one who was embroiled in the underworld and privy to too many secrets, it was an innate response not to let others possess what one couldn’t have.

They were stuck in traffic again, probably another checkpoint. But by now, Yang Yi was hardly nervous anymore.

Having already passed through two checkpoints, even with armed police conducting thorough searches of each vehicle, Yang Yi had come to realize he had overestimated the capabilities of the French police.

Could a city be locked down just by saying so?

For certain countries, mobilizing police to block the entire traffic of a city on short notice might be possible, but it was impossible for French police. At most, they would establish checkpoints on highways and major passageways.

Thus, when they were leaving Nice, Yang Yi and his group were likely only to encounter one checkpoint on their way in and out of the city, nothing more. The French police’s capacity for rapid deployment was too poor.

Yang Yi drove the car, inching forward with the traffic, while Anton drove the police car on the emergency lane at the side of the road, speeding straight to the front of the checkpoint.

Anton rolled down his window, poked his head out, and called out in French, "Hey, do we need to be checked? Guys, can you make it quick? We’re pressed for time."

A uniformed police officer came over to Anton’s car, then rested his hand on the roof, leaned in to peek inside, and said, "What’s the mission, brother?"

With a roll of his eyes and a helpless look, Anton replied, "Yeah, reinforcement outside the city. We were already off duty, but then got called in for overtime. Buddy, did you hear about the terrorist attack?"

The officer stood up, shrugged, and spread his hands, "I’m in the dark. Just got ordered to set up this checkpoint suddenly, no clue when we can knock off."

Again, Anton replied with resignation, "Exactly, we know nothing."

Just then, a man in a suit approached and said sternly to Anton, "Roll down all your windows."

With a nonchalant shrug, Anton lowered all four windows. The suited man glanced inside, shot a look at Steve in the passenger seat, then focused his gaze on Hans in the back for a good while.

With a languid tone, Anton asked, "Chief, you need to check us too? Should I pop the trunk?"

The man in the suit waved his hand dismissively and said, "All’s good."

The policeman standing next to their vehicle shrugged and whispered, "Territorial Surveillance Bureau."

Anton gave him a knowing look and whispered back, "You guys will be busy then."

After pulling away from the police car, the tall and hefty officer waved behind him, the roadblock was pushed aside, and he shouted, "Let’s go, hope this mission ends quickly so we can knock off early."

Anton waved from the window, drove the police car straight through the checkpoint, then switched on the siren and lights, and burst forward.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Steve, who was dressed in a police uniform, let out a sigh of relief and declared loudly, "See, I knew it. The Territorial Surveillance Bureau and the police, there’s nothing to worry about. No problems at all."

Anton laughed and said, "Congratulations, if all goes well, you’ve managed to survive."

Steve exhaled and said, "There won’t be any accidents, can’t be."

Hans picked up the phone and dialed Yang Yi’s number; their police car had gone ahead, but Yang Yi and the rest were still stuck in traffic behind them.

"Everything went smoothly, waiting for you up ahead."

"Got it."

Yang Yi hung up and then said to Xiao Ran, "We’ve finally made it out. Once we leave Nice, we’ll be fine. They can’t possibly impose martial law throughout France just for Steve."

Xiao Ran replied in a low voice, "The police car is a loose end. Once they discover three policemen and a police car are missing, they will come after us."

"By then, it will be too late. As long as we can get through quickly, all will be well."

After speaking, Yang Yi irritably honked the horn, knowing well that it wouldn’t make the cars ahead move any faster, but he was anxious.

Finally, after being stuck for more than half an hour, Yang Yi and his group eventually made it through the checkpoint.

Continuing on their way, they drove more than thirty kilometers before spotting the police car, so Yang Yi pulled over to the side of the road. Then Steve, now dressed in casual clothes, got out of the vehicle alone, obediently boarded Yang Yi’s car without any escort besides himself.

Once Steve was seated in the back, Yang Yi didn’t turn around, just smiled and said, "Congratulations, you’ve passed the first test. You’re a smart man, and we all like smart people, don’t we?"
