Chapter 887: Chapter 892: Don’t Look at Me
Yang Yi retracted the blade slightly but kept it pressing against Steve’s neck.
Steve was still doubting whether the young man in front of him was just trying to scare him, but at the moment the blade pierced his skin, he knew it wasn’t a bluff. Although still not certain, how could he dare to continue testing it?
It was one thing to gamble with someone else’s life, but with his own life on the line, Steve couldn’t afford the risk.
Not daring to take deep breaths, his head was pressed close to the washbasin as he said in a trembling voice, "Put the knife away, let’s talk this through properly."
Yang Yi just watched Steve coldly, the blade remained still, and then Steve immediately said, "The French government isn’t a threat, because they don’t even know how much wealth Deyo has. Yes, France and Deyo have ties—France needs Deyo to sell arms to whoever they want to supply, like Libya and Central Africa. But the French government’s relationship with Deyo isn’t that deep."
Yang Yi pulled back the knife a bit, and Steve continued, "The French want to find me because they know I manage Deyo’s money. Do you know how much wealth that is? Hundreds of billions! Hundreds of billions of US dollars!"
Steve became agitated, and he said excitedly, "Who wouldn’t be tempted by such a huge fortune? The French certainly would be, but they don’t know where the money is hidden, nobody does, not even Deyo himself, only I do, only me!"
Steve looked earnestly at Yang Yi and then he said in a heavy voice, "Hundreds of billions of US dollars, yes, it’s not possible to get it all, but at least fifty billion could be obtained! Fifty billion US dollars!"
Yang Yi smiled and said, "Until it’s in hand, everything is just talk."
Steve let out a breath and said, "Of course, you’re right. But why did Nicholas want to kill Deyo? He wanted to take over, replace Deyo, but more importantly, he wanted to get his hands on this money. He didn’t need all of it, just a part of it would significantly increase his power."
Yang Yi remained silent, because he really didn’t need Steve to reveal everything right now. All he wanted to do was send a clear message to Steve—if he couldn’t get what he wanted from Steve, he would kill him without hesitation.
It was only necessary for Steve to understand his predicament. As for the rest, Yang Yi was in no hurry to find out.
But now, Steve wanted to hurry up and tell him, trying to increase his value for survival, trying to convince Yang Yi not to kill him.
"I’ve known Nicholas for a long time, but it was only half a year ago that Nicholas approached me. He hoped that I would work with him, take out Deyo together, and that I could have half the money. I didn’t agree, but... I also didn’t tell Deyo about it."
Steve looked at Yang Yi, who still gave no response.
Steve became anxious, raising his voice, "Don’t you want to know why? Don’t you want to know what happened? Don’t you have any curiosity?"
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "Stop talking about that. You said you could get us out of Nice. That’s what I want to hear."
Steve had an expression of both laughter and tears, shaking his head from side to side, then he said angrily, "You! You! What on earth are you thinking!"
"Talk about what concerns me."
"Alright, alright!"
Steve felt defeated; he had been trying to pique Yang Yi’s interest, but, frustratingly, now that he wanted to talk, Yang Yi had no interest in listening.
Steve huffed and puffed, catching his breath before speaking with a face full of despair, "Getting out of Nice isn’t hard. First, you need to listen calmly to what I have to say. Don’t be hasty in knifing me, because what I’m going to say next might not interest you much, but you have to know it!"
"I’ve joined forces with Nicholas, yes, we’ve teamed up. These past few months have made me realize Deyo is finished. His son’s death hit him hard, and the United States is also unhappy with him, so they’re planning to switch their proxy. But what ultimately determined my decision to team up with Nicholas was the fact that Big Ivan has returned to the scene—he’s not dead. Since Big Ivan is alive, it’s over for Deyo."
Turning his head to one side and pondering for a moment, Steve continued, "A week ago, I knew Deyo was coming here, so I informed Nicholas. What followed was simple; Nicholas would kill Deyo at the right time, and he wouldn’t hurt me. I would collaborate with him to get our hands on Deyo’s money, but... Deyo died suddenly, not at the hands of Nicholas. You guys killed Deyo, and that messed up all our plans."
Yang Yi said indifferently, "It wasn’t us who killed him, it was Big Ivan, but that doesn’t matter. Go on."
Steve paused for a moment, then continued, "Deyo is dead, and although it was unexpected, it doesn’t matter much. Just when I notified Nicholas to come pick me up and leave, you guys beat us to the punch."
"There’s no need to repeat what has already happened."
"Fine, fine, my point is, none of this was planned, you get that? Nicholas has my phone number, he could locate me through it, so they found me. But now, I don’t have anything that can provide a location, Nicholas’s men don’t know where I am, and he sent fewer than two hundred men. Even with two hundred men, what could they do? Could they block every road in Nice?"
Yang Yi said calmly, "I’m not worried about Nicholas, I’m concerned about the French government."
Steve stomped his foot in frustration before exclaiming, "What can the French government do? The French Territorial Surveillance Bureau is just a few people; they can only use the police to block off the airports, train stations, and every main highway, but so what? Are you scared of the French police?"
Yang Yi thought for a moment and then said, "You still haven’t given a specific and feasible way to leave Nice, to leave France."
With an expression of helplessness, Steve stamped his foot and angrily said, "Do I really have to provide a specific way? Fine, stuff me into a car’s trunk, then just drive off. Wherever you go, let me out when you feel it’s safe. Does that work? Does it!"
Yang Yi continued to look at him coldly, and Steve, in disbelief, said, "I’m offering you such sincerity, what more do you want? Why must I die working with anyone if I can stay alive? As long as you pay me, why must I definitely die?"
Yang Yi remained silent.
Steve completely unraveled, tears streaming down his face, and then with a crying voice, he said, "I don’t want to die! Can’t you trust me? Look at me, look into my eyes, tell me, am I not sincere enough? F*ck! I don’t want to die! Ask me anything you want to know! Can’t you stop staring at me like this? Stop looking at me like
