Chapter 873: Chapter 878: Pre-Battle Status

To ensure Deyo’s assassination, the Satan Mercenary Group must have gone all out. They wouldn’t let any opportunity slip by, but the problem was two more days had passed without any sign of Deyo.

Deyo should have been here, but he simply wasn’t. Gong Yang was anxious, and so was Yang Yi, but what good would fretting do?

Of course, what Yang Yi was actually more concerned about was Steve, and even if Deyo had shown up, Steve might not necessarily return. However, without Deyo, Steve definitely wouldn’t show up.

Satan was busy, while the Organization of Water had nothing to do.

Being idle at this time was no good, and Yang Yi had decided that once Deyo showed up and knowing for sure that Satan would make a move, he’d find Gong Yang before Satan could take action and talk about cooperation.

Why not speak earlier, but insist on bringing it up just as Satan was about to strike? The reason was simple: Yang Yi planned to make Gong Yang an offer he couldn’t refuse.

So, Yang Yi still played it cunningly, although he strongly believed he had seen through Gong Yang’s character. But if it could increase his certainty, he naturally needed to choose a more appropriate moment.

What needed to be done was to wait naturally.

Yang Yi was drinking coffee, and Xiao Ran was staring at the monitor, target practicing with her pistol at Gong Yang’s image on the screen out of boredom.

"I heard that people with keen intuition can feel it when they’re being aimed at with a gun."

Without lifting her head, Xiao Ran said, "If you could crawl through the phone line and take out the person, then I’ll believe Gong Yang could feel me pointing a gun at him through the screen."

Yang Yi sighed and said, "Whatever makes you happy. What shall we eat? We haven’t had lunch yet."

"I don’t feel like eating anything."

Yang Yi sat down next to Xiao Ran and then with a grin that begged for approval, he said, "Since we’re free anyway, how about..."

Finally, Xiao Ran turned her head to look at him and said, "Dream on!"

"I just thought it would be nice if you could cook us some food..."

"That’s exactly why I said dream on. What else did you think I meant?"

Embarrassed, Yang Yi said, "But... you used to be willing to cook before. Please, can you favor me with your culinary prowess?"

Xiao Ran casually placed a bag of bread in front of Yang Yi, saying, "If you’re hungry, chew on this. If not, never mind. I’m not in the mood to cook for you, and besides, do you think my cooking is just for anyone?"

"Do I count as ’just anyone’?"

"What do you think?"

They say familiarity breeds fondness, but Yang Yi felt that absence makes the heart grow fonder had more truth to it at the moment.

While Yang Yi was lost in thought, Xiao Ran suddenly put her gun away.

Yang Yi, deflated, was about to speak when he noticed chaos in the monitor showing Satan’s men, causing him to stand up too.

"Deyo is here!"

Yang Yi felt both shock and joy, shouting out the news and quickly glancing at his watch—it was 2:50 p.m.

A convoy arrived, and at that moment, Hans made a phone call.

"Twelve cars including four bulletproof sedans; the convoy has entered the compound. In addition, nine more vehicles haven’t gone in. The target brought a security detail of at least a hundred men."

"Got it."

Yang Yi hung up the phone and then stared intently at the monitor; it was time to closely observe Satan’s actions.

Gong Yang’s voice was loud, and it came through the monitor just as loudly.

"Switch to pre-combat mode, set up pre-combat communication systems, implement communication controls, notify Number 13 that the wind is blowing, keep a close watch on every movement of the target building, and have the assault teams and snipers take their positions."

Gong Yang issued a series of commands, and in response, Satan’s men started moving methodically.

Yang Yi also gave orders. Now that Deyo had arrived, he had to prepare for Satan’s potential assault, meaning the Organization of Water’s action teams needed to be ready too.

"Action teams, get ready."

Yang Yi said only this phrase, and he used the phone instead of a walkie-talkie.

Compared to phones, radios were easier to intercept, especially as a sudden spike in radio communication near Deyo’s residence would surely be noticed by Deyo’s security team, even if they did not catch the specifics of the communication.

So Satan had also enforced communication controls, which meant no using radios at this time.

Satan couldn’t attack straight away; their plan was to start with a barrage from sea-based artillery on Deyo’s villa. Until the gunboats were in position, Satan could not strike.

But Satan’s assault teams were already gearing up, donning bulletproof vests, and arming themselves.

There were two rooms from which Deyo’s villa could be monitored—one with three men on surveillance, and in the other, a bespectacled sniper named Rabbit walked in, carrying a sniper rifle.

Laying the rifle on the bed, Rabbit got into position.

Yang Yi only glanced at Rabbit briefly. He wasn’t particularly interested in him, nor was he inclined to pay much attention. His focus was entirely on Gong Yang.

Satan was ready, and Gong Yang began making a phone call. Then Yang Yi heard Gong Yang clearly say, "Send the boats out to sea, but not too close. Wait for further orders for any action."

But the sentence Gong Yang said right after he hung up was not good news.

"Wait for news from Number 13 and Ake. This operation will primarily rely on them, with brute force as a secondary option. Patience is key."

This made Yang Yi somewhat frustrated because relying on Number 13 meant that Satan’s main tactic would be poisoning, not a frontal assault. Without an assault, he would miss his chance to fish in troubled waters.

After all, Deyo had over a hundred people protecting him, and his security arrangements were top-notch. A direct attack would likely result in casualties, which Satan obviously wanted to avoid. This was a major reason why Yang Yi hadn’t yet confronted Gong Yang.

If Satan was not going to use a frontal assault, then Yang Yi had little to say.

Patience, then. Satan had to wait, and so naturally, the Organization of Water had to wait too.

Finally, Yang Yi found the time to look at another monitor.

"Short-sighted sniper, interesting."

As someone relatively more proficient in long-distance shooting, Yang Yi found the sniper Rabbit to be of interest, mainly because he wanted to know the level of the only person Satan had using a large-caliber sniper rifle.

Satan had already prepared the sniper position. Rabbit lay directly on the bed, about two meters from the window to avoid detection.

Simply watching didn’t reveal much, so after a quick look, Yang Yi returned his attention to Gong Yang. Xiao Ran only glanced briefly before saying dispassionately, "Satan already has Gong Yang; as for this sniper, he’s not worth watching."
