Chapter 869: Chapter 874 Topics
Until now, the sheer amount of information Yang Yi had seen was overwhelming; the two cameras he had installed were like keys unlocking a treasure trove.
Yang Yi gained a new understanding of Satan’s strength.
With only a dozen or so members, the Satan Mercenary Group was brimming with talent; Yang Yi had never seen a mercenary group with such a complete array of personnel.
Especially the technical roles, which are usually found in conventional units, in large forces. For a small mercenary group with just over a dozen members to have such a complete range of technical roles was very, very astonishing and surprising.
For instance, Satan had a dedicated artillery commander.
For instance, Satan had a specialized drone operator.
And surprisingly, Satan even had an aerial strike coordinator.
Aerial strike, ah, the role that guides attacking aircraft or bombers during air strikes on ground targets.
A mercenary group capable of directing aerial strikes? You’ve got to be joking.
If a mercenary group had the ability to conduct air strikes, then most countries in the world would have reason to die of shame.
Then there’s that James, and that Jesse Lee, both of whom turned out to be amphibious landing specialists.
Satan also had an assassin, casually overheard during a conversation with Gong Yang—the skinny, small Caucasian who seemed completely non-threatening.
What does a mercenary group need an assassin for?
What was most infuriating was that Satan also had former operatives, like that Ake.
Learning about Ake’s identity was a coincidence, but finding out Ake was from MI6 shocked Yang Yi very, very, very much.
In contrast to the almost entirely unique configuration of the above mercenaries, it seemed quite normal for Satan to have a specialized mortar man.
It was also quite normal for Satan to have two medics.
And Satan having two snipers seemed very normal, as that is a regular feature of a mercenary group.
These were the parts Yang Yi already knew about, things he heard during discussions and strategy making sessions; they represented what Satan had already displayed.
The undiscovered capabilities of Satan were actually even more terrifying, such as the Black Devil apparently being controlled by Gong Yang...
The Black Devil, actually obeying Gong Yang’s commands, that was not just surprising, it was horrifying.
This was a super small-scale mercenary group?
Yang Yi scoffed at the industry rumors; Satan’s configuration was far from a super small-scale mercenary group. Everyone had been deceived. Deceived by Satan, deceived by Gong Yang.
Satan’s model was basically the skeleton of a war machine, possessing most combat modes, capable of maintaining a minimal level of operation, but able to quickly expand in manpower when necessary, transforming instantly into a war machine fit to handle all scales of combat.
Of course, with all the specialists in the Satan Mercenary Group, their number of dedicated combat personnel was fewer. But then, Satan had Gong Yang.
Yang Yi wasn’t sure about the others’ strengths, but he felt that with Gong Yang and a few assaulters thrown in, when handling urban and indoor combat, Satan seemed to be an unbeatable existence.
Satan was by no means a traditional mercenary group; it definitely wasn’t the kind that could only handle small skirmishes.
No wonder the Satan Mercenary Group rose to power so quickly; while they may seem a bit peculiar, their strength is enough to leave their peers in despair.
Fortunately, the Organization of Water is not a mercenary group. Otherwise, having to face a competitor like Satan would truly be a cause for despair.
A thorough analysis of Satan’s strength was indeed necessary because whether they could take down Deyo depended on it. Whether Satan could take down Deyo was the core of Yang Yi and his team’s current mission.
Therefore, the stronger Satan was, the happier Yang Yi naturally became. Deyo wasn’t an easy target to take down, and Yang Yi couldn’t even imagine what would happen if another mercenary group were to attack Deyo with the most basic tactics.
Using remorseless artillery bombardments followed by a forceful assault by the strike team was Satan’s current tactical plan, and Yang Yi really admired Gong Yang’s thinking. This tactic was, no doubt, quite imaginative and seemingly the only viable strategy.
What Yang Yi could see, Brian and his team could see as well. So discussion and analysis were necessary. However, while discussing, Zhang Yong provided Yang Yi with a new piece of intelligence.
"That big guy, I know him; I’ve heard of him."
The conversation took place over a video call on the internet because using walkie-talkies would generate a lot of radio communication that could be monitored, whereas a video call wouldn’t have this problem.
Yang Yi glanced at the monitor and said, "The big guy? You mean the one who looks like a Russian?"
Zhang Yong nodded and replied, "Yes, that’s him. If he’s the ’big dog’, then he must be the ’Machine Gun Artist’."
"Machine Gun Artist?"
"Yes, a..." Zhang Yong paused, then spoke solemnly, "If I am not mistaken, he’s the Machine Gun Artist, the mad dog from the Sierra Leone massacre, once a member of Trident Mercenary Group."
Yang Yi looked at Xiao Ran, who sat next to him at the screen and then shrugged, "Another one from Trident? Machine Gun Artist sounds quite artistic. Is he that good?"
"You think Gong Yang is good?"
"No shit, a God of Guns!"
Zhang Yong sighed and said, "They are on the same level."
"What do you mean?"
Yang Yi paused for a moment, then said, "You’re saying the big dog is on the same level as Gong Yang? That’s no joke, right? It’s rare to see someone like Gong Yang even once in decades."
Zhang Yong shrugged and replied, "In the eyes of a machine gunner, the big dog is the God! Machine gunners and snipers have different standards, you know that, right?"
"I do know that."
"So, Gong Yang could be a God of Guns with any firearm, except for machine guns, because with machine guns, there’s only one god, and that’s the big dog. Everyone in the mercenary world knows the mad dog Grolyov. I thought the guy was dead, but it turns out he’s alive and has even joined Satan."
"Sounds like there’s a story there?"
"Yeah, the best machine gunner couldn’t find a mercenary group that would take him, and then he disappeared. He was kicked out of Trident because he had a drug-addicted liability by his side. I don’t know the full story, I just heard about him. It could be an exaggeration, a bit of Chinese whispers, but after big dog left Trident, Trident quickly fell apart. Without its soul, the mercenary group was gone."
Yang Yi marked down something next to the name ’big dog’ on the list he had at hand.
"I’ll remember him. Now, we really need to put some thought into this. If Satan attacks Deyo’s villa, how are we going to ensure we retrieve Steve? My worry is that Satan might just kill everyone in the fray, and that, my friends, would be a real problem for us."
Indeed, figuring out how to save Steve’s life during Satan’s assault on Deyo was the actual topic of Yang Yi and his team’s discussion.
Satan had to be strong enough to take down Deyo, but their biggest concern now was that if Satan was too powerful, they might wipe everyone out in a ruthless purge.
