Chapter 789: Chapter 794: Not Easy to Deceive Anymore

How lucrative is intelligence? It’s just a matter of one sentence. The same sentence could sell for a hundred dollars, a million, or even a billion.

It all depends on who you tell it to.

Nicholas wants to kill Ivan. To the average person, this sentence is worthless, but to Big Ivan or Ivan, it’s worth ten million, a hundred million.

So, for Justin, it’s crucial that he’s the only one who can tell this to Nicholas. If Yang Yi leaves this sentence just anywhere, say on the dark web, then it’s not worth anything anymore.

Exclusive, exclusive, exclusive intelligence is where the money is.

But Yang Yi asking for ten million right off the bat is quite the high pitch—his real aim is a million US dollars. You’ve always got to aim high to leave some room for negotiation, right?

"A million would be fine, but a million doesn’t get exclusive intelligence."

If Justin had pushed a little more, Yang Yi would have agreed, but Justin gritted his teeth and said, "What am I supposed to earn with ten million US dollars? Three million is my final offer, three million to buy your silence!"

Could this actually be turning out well?

Yang Yi was surprised. Justin had actually raised the price to three million himself. We’re talking about Justin here, someone who never ups the price first.

Yang Yi suddenly realized something. If Big Ivan and Ivan were dead, then Justin certainly wouldn’t spend three million US dollars for this information, which means Justin knows a lot. He knows this intelligence can make money, which is to say, is Big Ivan really not dead?

Yang Yi was silent for a while, and Justin said helplessly, "That’s how the intelligence business works. Every sentence is money. Listen buddy, I don’t care what you’re thinking right now, but it’s not what you think, I need this information because... Fuck! Three million!"

"How about seven million, let’s take the middle ground."

"Fuck, the middle ground is five million!"

"Then make it five million. For five million, the intelligence is exclusively yours, and I definitely won’t tell anyone else."

"You... you... Alright! Five million it is, I’ll pay immediately, give me the evidence."

"No hard evidence, just testimony. This comes from Jethro’s mouth. Nicholas is conspiring to kill Ivan behind the scenes. He’s trying to incite a war between Deyo and Big Ivan. Ivan is not really dead. That’s about it, really. Knowing this should be enough, right?"

Justin took a deep breath and said, "An intelligence report without hard evidence costs me five million US dollars... Never mind, this info isn’t worth that much, but I’ll still pay it. I only have one demand, when can you take out Mark Schappo?"

One sentence sold for five million US dollars, and to take out Mark Schappo, Justin also offered five million US dollars.

Without comparison, there is no sense of loss, but now Yang Yi feels like accepting the job to kill Mark Schappo isn’t worth it.

After a moment of silence, Yang Yi hesitantly said, "We’re really busy right now, very busy. And the job to take out Mark Schappo is only five million US dollars. Plus, we have to mimic the KGB’s methods to do it. Uh, we haven’t really guaranteed to kill him, right? I just said we’d do it if we could."

Justin took a deep breath, then he said quite helplessly, "Don’t confuse the value of intelligence with the value of action. Although the price to take out Mark Schappo isn’t high, that’s all such an operation is worth."

"Yeah, but we’re spies, you know, more into intelligence work. Assassination isn’t really our thing. You could try someone else for that, mainly because we’re just too busy, seriously way too busy."

Yang Yi sensed that Justin must be going crazy right now, because he could hear the sound of things being smashed.

Should he not have pushed Justin so hard? After all, he had many things to rely on Justin for at the Organization of Water. So just as Yang Yi was hesitating about whether to say something to calm Justin’s rage, he heard Justin grind his teeth and say, "Ten million US Dollars! I’ll give you ten million, can’t do more than that, and consider it a debt of favor. Now get rid of Mark Schappo! Take him out!"

Ten million US Dollars plus a favor, this could work.

Yeah, it really could work.

Deyo wasn’t dead yet, and Yang Yi had no idea about Nicholas’s whereabouts. There was no chance to make a move anytime soon, so why not take the time now to sort out Justin’s issue? It really wouldn’t take that much time.

"Alright, I’ll help you out with this one."

Yang Yi finally agreed but Justin roared back, "This isn’t helping out! This is pricey! Super pricey!"

Yang Yi moved the phone away from his ear. Fortunately, Justin didn’t roar for too long. After a couple of shouts, he was panting heavily and said, "Fine, consider it you helping me out. Now please get rid of Mark Schappo as soon as possible. The ten million US Dollars comes with a time limit, one month, at most one month. If you guys can’t handle it, I’m finding someone else!"

Yang Yi replied seriously, "I’ll get on it right away, putting aside all my other tasks to help you out with this!"

Insisting it was a favor and not just a simple task, Yang Yi then said, "So do you know anything about Nicholas?"

Justin’s voice immediately shot up by an octave.

"You want information on Nicholas?"

Even though Justin tried hard to keep his voice steady, his emotions were unstable, so he couldn’t fool Yang Yi.

Justin was looking to make up his losses through the information on Nicholas.

Yang Yi made a snap decision and said, "Uh, just curious, but no need for his info anymore. Whether or not you have it, I don’t want it. Let’s leave it at that; I need to rush and help you out, Mark Schappo isn’t easy to deal with."

"Wait a second, are you sure you don’t want information on Nicholas? I could actually arrange for someone to investigate a bit, it wouldn’t cost much."

"You still need to investigate? No need, really no need. What do I need Nicholas’s information for? Let’s just leave it at that; I need to hang up now."

Yang Yi quickly hung up the call, and on the other end of the phone, Justin, after hearing the dial tone, was initially dumbfounded. After a while, he irritably said, "Even this rookie has gotten cunning! Fuck, not easy to fool anymore..."

Yang Yi didn’t know about Justin’s assessment of him, but having been around for so long, he was bound to pick up a few tricks. It’s not like he could take whatever was thrown at him at face value.

Deyo wasn’t dead yet, and Yang Yi didn’t need to bother about Nicholas. After all, no matter who was in charge, the Big Ivan group had to take out Nicholas, so why should Yang Yi spend money on Nicholas’s intelligence?

Since he wanted to be a beneficiary of the situation, there was no need for him to get involved personally first. He should handle Justin’s task at hand, as ten million US Dollars was not a small sum, and the chance to have Justin owe him a favor was rare.
