Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 738 - 744: Utterly Insane

Chapter 738: Chapter 744: Utterly Insane

Francois’s intention to snatch credit was too obvious.

Previously, when he refused to let Fearless lead the charge no matter what, but now that the directional mines had been laid and the enemy was like a turtle in a jar, he was willing to let his men go and say hello.

The so-called greeting of course would start with giving the enemy a blast, whether by shooting or tossing a grenade; at least the first shot had to be one by the Fearless Mercenary Corps.

That was Francois’s plan, and firing this first shot and initiating the attack was very important, because it had to do with the Fearless Mercenary Corps’ commission—the more work done, the more commission they should naturally receive.

Three men sprinted towards the house where Black Devil was hiding.

Yang Yi was startled, then he felt pleased because he was finally going to face that black hood, and he didn’t have to be the first to rush out.

The people inside still didn’t know they were turtles in a jar, so of course, they would open fire upon spotting someone.

The three Fearless Mercenaries didn’t rush straight for the main entrance; their target was the wall to the right of the gate.

It was just a matter of saying hello, throw a grenade over the wall to let the enemy know they had arrived, and then shout to inform the enemy they were surrounded—so the next step of negotiation would naturally follow.

Even Yang Yi thought so.

But reality always has some differences from expectation.

The three men approached the wall, then suddenly there was a ’bang’ sound.

A sound that wasn’t so loud, like a gunshot, but a light noise followed immediately by a loud boom.

That kind of ’boom’, and then the ears began to buzz with that loud sound.

A puff of blue smoke rose into the air, and the three Fearless Mercenaries who had dashed over fell down with the big noise, without struggling, without screams, nothing—just a big bang, and then the person on the far left suddenly turned into a torn sack thrown on the ground, like a pile of indistinct flesh and blood, while the other two were lying on the ground, still shaped intact.

Yang Yi was frightened out of his wits, because he was already very tense, and a big noise during a moment of high tension scared him so much that it almost sent his soul flying.

Even the relaxed Francois was stunned for a moment, then he tightened his grip on the rifle in his hand, his mouth agape. After a brief daze, he exclaimed in horror, "Bouncing mine!"

In fact, Yang Yi and his team also brought some bouncing mines, but they were unnecessary.

The regrettable thing was that Black Devil had also planted landmines. Compared to the directional mines planted on this side, Black Devil’s group was the one that had truly buried landmines.

Who the hell could have imagined someone would be demented enough to plant landmines around a house in the outskirts of Kyiv, no less the indiscriminately killing bouncing mines, and also with pressure fuses, the kind that kills friend and foe alike—insane, bouncing mines.

Black Devil was inhuman, demented.

But now Yang Yi was extremely relieved it was Francois’s men who went, extremely relieved.

Francois was about to go mad with anger, he was truly on the verge of losing his mind.

Just then, something was thrown out of the house window, and that object exploded violently as soon as it hit the ground.

Brian said in a deep voice, "Not a bomb, not a grenade, it’s a flash charge!"

It was easy to distinguish, as the object thrown from the window exploded with only a shock wave and no shrapnel.

"Marvin!"

Right then, the person standing next to Francois shouted out.

"Marvin’s not dead! He’s moving! Boss, did you see that? Marvin moved!"

Francois pressed down on his subordinate who was about to charge out, and then he bellowed, "That was a directional mine! It was the explosion near Marvin, he’s dead, he’s dead! Stay calm!"

"No, no, no, he moved, he really did! I saw him move, did you guys see it?"

Francois’s subordinate turned his pleading eyes first to Yang Yi, then to Brian, then to the Alpha trio, but what he received was only disappointment; no one was willing to help him, whether it was to say a word or to go rescue his comrade.

In fact, Yang Yizhen hadn’t really seen whether any of the three who were down were moving; his attention wasn’t on that.

"He moved!"

After another shout, Francois’s subordinate suddenly leaped up and rushed towards the fallen trio.

Francois, filled with rage, slammed the ground, roaring, "Come back! Get back here!"

Boom.

The brave man never made it to his comrade’s side; although he had followed the very path his comrade had taken, this time he quickly stepped on a directional mine.

Yang Yi felt deeply.

The death was really senseless, Francois was right, how could anyone hope to survive taking a blast from a directional mine at close range? That idiot, that nameless fool, just died like that.

Maybe that’s what comradeship is about. Watching a comrade get hurt or killed can make you lose your senses, know that going out there is death yet still foolishly charge out. What an idiot.

But Yang Yi had seen it just a moment ago, indeed there was a leg that kicked ever so slightly, but he was certain it was just the residual nerve reaction of a not yet fully dead person. He had killed plenty and had seen the same situation many times.

Just a final kick before death, yet it cost another life. So stupid.

However, Yang Yi also felt envious of Marvin, to have a comrade willing to die with him. He had a comrade brave enough to dash into the minefield just to see if he was really dead, just to take a look, and that was all one could really do. Anyone with a rational mind, with brains, would have figured that out.

The Fearless Mercenary Corps were enemies, not friends. Yang Yi wouldn’t feel regret over their deaths, but still, he felt somewhat... melancholic. Maybe it was melancholy, he wasn’t sure what to call this complex emotion.

"Bastard! Bastard!"

Francois didn’t know if he was cursing the subordinate who had died or the Black Devil.

Right then, someone flashed by the window, followed by an arm stretching out and firing a shot through it.

Francois, holding his rifle, fired a burst at the spot where someone had just appeared, but no one was hit.

The atmosphere tensed, Francois breathing heavily in agitation.

Who was to blame? Who could Francois blame? No one had ordered his men to take point; he had volunteered them for death himself.

So the conversation circled back to the earlier topic, who would have thought there would be landmines planted around the houses near the outskirts of Kyiv? This wasn’t a sparsely populated area.

After a short wait, Brian suddenly said, "The call has been made."

Francois glared at Brian venomously.

Brian held a megaphone in his left hand and a rocket launcher in his right, then he stood up and said in a deep voice, "After the greeting shots, the enemy should know they’re exposed, so it’s time for me to make my appearance."

After speaking, Brian whistled softly to himself, murmuring, "Come on, let’s get this resolved!"
