Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 718 - 724: Desperate Counterattack
Chapter 718: Chapter 724: Desperate Counterattack
Those people, no, those people and that person, you absolutely cannot confront them head-on.
Yang Yi’s only thought was that he could only strike from behind, there was no other way. As a warrior, one must have the courage to face life and death with the enemy, but as a spy, better forget it.
There’s always someone better, everyone understands this, but when you see incomprehensible humans before your eyes, it’s certain to be shocking.
Especially in combat, there’s no room for error. Whether you live or die in a gunfight depends on both skill and luck, but knowing that just showing your face means certain death unless you instantly take down an enemy, that’s when you truly need courage to face someone head-on.
Yang Yi knew that a super gunman had the power to decide the outcome of a battlefield, but now he realized what truly dominated the battlefield.
This feeling was very helpless, very desperate, very... damaging to one’s pride.
"I’m going to kill him! I have to be stronger than him!"
Xiao Ran finally spoke; her expression was serious and her attitude resolute.
As she looked at everyone, Xiao Ran held her head high and firmly declared, "I’m going to kill him! I have to be stronger than him! I want to become the Gun God!"
No one spoke up. Xiao Ran clenched her fists. She was merely expressing her determination and confidence, but the look on her face seemed like she was ready to die gallantly.
"Good! I support you!"
Yang Yi was the first to speak up.
Xiao Ran had just experienced the biggest psychological blow of her life.
The better the marksmanship, the greater the blow. For assaulters like Zhang Yong, dealing with a super gunman was manageable – if he can’t be confronted, he can be avoided, or taken out from behind – but for Xiao Ran, who had been full of confidence and considered herself one of the top marksmen, it was devastating to be completely outclassed in her field of expertise.
Either it becomes a psychological shadow, forever dissuading her from aspiring to be the best, with a deep internal acknowledgement that she will never be the best, or she takes on the challenge, turning the blow into motivation and setting a goal to surpass and overtake, at least maintaining the belief to keep moving forward.
So Xiao Ran wasn’t being unreasonable; she just needed to set a goal for herself to maintain her confidence and courage.
"What are you looking at? I’m not afraid, and Blade Queen has never feared anyone!"
Xiao Ran, feeling scrutinized by the group, got angry, and vented her frustrations. As always, everyone understood her true feelings, but one must stay tough in words, otherwise, how would she cope in the future?
Xiao Ran’s bold words were effective; at least they allowed the deeply shocked group to focus on the matter at hand, rather than dwell on the shock brought about by a Gun God.
If you can’t beat them head-on, try flanking them. There’s no rule saying that killing someone from behind doesn’t count. Dead men can be revived, so no matter how it’s done, achieving the objective is all that matters.
Yang Yi looked toward Brian and asked, "What do we do?"
With a grave expression, Brian replied, "Of course we keep an eye on those people. We need to know where they’re going to plan our next move. Stick to the original plan: find them, surround them, then blow them away!"
Yang Yi took a breath, then suddenly said, "This is a good opportunity."
Brian asked in a deep voice, "What kind of opportunity?"
Yang Yi pointed at the screen and said, "Corkdor has been captured alive. If nothing goes wrong, he will spill everything he knows, putting all of us in danger now."
Stop worrying about how to deal with Big Ivan now; Big Ivan has captured Corkdor, and next, it will be Big Ivan’s turn to go after the rest of us, Ferdinand and Jethro included. None will escape.
Fortunately, Yang Yi’s goal was never to win the war for Deyo, so Big Ivan’s counterattack was a crisis as well as an opportunity for him.
Yang Yi gritted his teeth and said in a deep voice, "Big Ivan’s counterattack will be swift and advantageous. I believe Corkdor won’t last long before spilling everything, but for now, we still have time."
After speaking, Yang Yi loudly declared, "Act now! We take out Ferdinand. With Corkdor captured and Ferdinand dead, only Jethro would be qualified to take over Ferdinand’s men! That way, we’ll have enough manpower, keeping an eye on the enemy is our advantage, and if we’re quick, we have a chance to hit Big Ivan hard! Even if we fail, we can immediately evacuate Ukraine. Moreover, with Big Ivan countering now and Corkdor finished, another dead Ferdinand wouldn’t be out of place, would it?"
Brian paused, then said, "At this point, not going after Big Ivan but choosing to take out Ferdinand first? Your plan is bold, but... good!"
Brian stood up abruptly, his face serious as he announced, "You’re right, this is the perfect opportunity to take out Ferdinand! We move now!"
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "I’ll talk to Jethro. If he agrees, great. If he doesn’t... don’t harm him."
If Jethro agreed with Yang Yi’s approach, then he would still be useful. If Jethro disagreed, then he would become useless.
Something useless should be discarded, and a useless person could be killed because life isn’t worth much in the underworld, and fair partings are impossible, while betrayal and silence by killing are the norm.
But Yang Yi couldn’t bring himself to do such a thing, so he could only control Jethro for the time being, instead of killing him outright.
Yang Yi strode out.
Jethro looked troubled; unless he was incredibly dense, he should have realized that something was different now.
Yang Yi met Jethro, and without beating around the bush, he went straight to the point, "Big Ivan has begun to retaliate, Corkdor has been captured alive by Big Ivan’s men!"
Jethro immediately stood up, his voice trembling as he asked, "What did you say?"
"Big Ivan has made his move. Corkdor was taken alive at the entrance of the government building, his people almost all wiped out. There’s no doubt that Big Ivan will target us and Ferdinand next, so we have two choices now: either flee immediately or fight back right away!"
Jethro asked gravely, "How do you know this?"
Yang Yi did not answer Jethro’s question, maintaining a calm demeanor, "There’s no time to explain now. Here’s my plan: lure Ferdinand out, then we take him down. Once we take Ferdinand’s forces, we launch a desperate counterattack against Big Ivan. If we succeed, we all celebrate victory; if we fail, we all escape right away. What do you think?"
